The Electronics and Communication Engineering was one of the branches started in the year 2003, under the aegis of University College of Engineering, established in the year 2003, at Punjabi University, Patiala (Main Campus).
We made a modest beginning with a single under-graduate course of four-year duration, viz., Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech.) in Electronics and Communication Engineering. With a view to provide quality education, we took a leap forward by launching a five-year course, viz., Engineering Management Integrated Programme, for an overall development of the students in engineering and management skills, and a two-year course, viz., Master of Technology course in Electronics and Communication Engineering, in 2009 followed by a three-year Master of Technology course in Electronics and Communication Engineering, in 2011 on part-time basis.
With the abolishment of the University College of Engineering in September 2013, the Electronics and Communication Engineering branch was awarded the status of an independent department and the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering came into being. Presently, there are 33 faculty members in the department, 4 Professors, 1 Associate Professors and 28 Assistant Professors along with well-trained technical and non- technical staff to assist them. Each faculty member is actively involved in research work in their respective fields of specialization. Practical aspects of various subjects is supported by well-equipped labs, viz., Electronic Devices Lab, Circuit Theory Lab, Digital Electronic Circuits Lab, Analog Electronic Circuits Lab, Analog Communication Systems Lab, Micro Processor & Applications Lab, Digital System Design Lab, Digital Signal Processing Lab, Digital Communication Systems Lab, Optical Communications Lab, Microwave Engineering Lab, Power Electronics Lab, Wireless & Mobile Communications Lab, etc. A Research Lab with full-featured software and hardware equipment is also present to assist the M.Tech. and the Ph.D. students in their respective areas of research.
