About Us
Unnat Bharat Abhiyan draws inspiration from the vision of transformational change in rural development. It empowers knowledge institutions to build an inclusive India by engaging higher educational institutionstechnical, non-technical, public, and privatein fostering self-sufficient, sustainable village clusters.
Educational institutions drive national development by adopting villages, applying technologies to rural challenges, and enriching academic and research programs. Ultimately, Unnat Bharat Abhiyan fosters a vibrant partnership between society and higher education, delivering knowledge and innovation to enhance rural livelihoods and strengthen public and private organizations.
Vision:
To engage professional and higher educational institutions in the indigenous development of self-sufficient, sustainable village clusters, aligned with Mahatma Gandhi's vision of Gram Swaraj.
Mission:
Unnat Bharat Abhiyan pursues this vision through three key objectives:
- Build mechanisms and networks among educational institutions, Panchayati Raj Institutions, and grassroots voluntary organizations for effective field-level interventions.
- Select rural clusters and drive their holistic development using eco-friendly, sustainable technologies and local resourcescreating employment, leveraging government schemes, and partnering with voluntary organizations.
- Reorient academic curricula, ethos, and research in professional institutions to address national needs, especially in rural areas, while building capacity for indigenous development.

Villages Adopted under UBA
As a flagship program of the Ministry of Education (formerly MHRD), Unnat Bharat Abhiyan links higher education institutions with at least five villages to drive economic and social progress. Punjabi University, Patiala, has adopted the following villages near its permanent campus:
- Jalalpur
- Bahadurgarh (Rurki Kasba)
- Mehmedpur Jattan
- Shamspur
- Raipur
Activates Undertaken
Base line Survey of Five Adopted Villages.
Meeting with Gram panchayat sarpanch and Village panchiyat is conducted by UBA team in villages and completed following survey
- Different schemes of government adopted by village people.
- Education and Literacy rate and basic amenities available in the villages.
- Number of male and female individuals across different education levels.
- School Going Children and adult literacy across caste groups.
- Village infrastructure and services.
- Source of Energy and Power.
