EICH Establishment Background
Entrepreneurship has always been a favourite career choice among a significant section of students at Punjabi University – especially among the ones pursuing professional courses. Students and alumni from various departments of Punjabi University often pursue their careers as entrepreneurs. While some student take-up relevant courses in order to enable themselves to look-after their family businesses in a better manner, others take more courageous steps to explore new areas and implement new ideas
The efforts by faculty and students in this direction have been glorified by many success stories of our alumni emerging as successful entrepreneurs. However, the journey has never been an easy one and the teams working on start-up projects have to constantly struggle for overcoming various challenges – primary among them being the requirement for modern fabrication and testing facilities, which are rather limited in the existing setup.
The teams of entrepreneurs usually comprise of individuals from various streams and different batches of their professional courses. While different backgrounds (viz. various streams among engineering students) help complement each other’s knowledge domains, the latter aspect facilitates a natural connection between the on-campus students and passed-out entrepreneurs. In this fashion, while the budding entrepreneurs alleviate their costs by getting skilled manpower at low or no cost, the on-campus students receive mentorship and help establish an innovation culture.
It was with this background that under the guidance from top administration of the University, the faculty members from different departments came together to explore the potential domains where start-ups could be launched; worked-out their overlapping areas of interest and consolidated the requirements for equipment and other facilities.
