"Shakespeare comes alive on his birthday"

Patiala, April 24- William Shakespeare, a noted English playwright, was ‘brought alive on his 446th birthday’ with Punjabi University’s Theatre and Television Department staging his universally acknowledged classic tragedy, “King Lear” at University’s kala bhawan here last night. King Lear’s soul, torn into pieces by his daughters, Goneril (Kuldeep Kaur) and Regan (Karamjeet Kaur), and salvaged a little by the youngest one, Cordelia (Veerpal Kaur) was unfolded stunningly by Gurtej Singh on stage, legitimising the complex contemporary social situation. The rash decision of King Lear to bequeath his kingdom between his two sycophant elder daughters, Goneril and Regan and disinheriting Cordelia, who denies to cave in to such a sham, brings his tragic doom alongwith all of them.

            Gurtej as King Lear came out with his best under the superb directorial effort by Kewal Dhaliwal, as he is left alone in the fierce storm scene, symbolizing his fate in the singular accompaniment of the clown (Sudhir Banga). Parallel moves the destiny of his friend, Earl of Gloucester (Malkiat Singh), who is blinded by Goneril’s husband, Cornwall, as he turns a blind’s eye to his faithful son, Edgar (Nirmal Singh) under the impact of cunning slanders of his illegitimate son, Edmund (Navdeep Singh). The onerous task of translating the play into Punjabi by Navdeep in an exquisite manner added to the quality of the play, enhanced immensely with costume designing by Kewal Dhaliwal, light execution by Daljit Singh and makeup by Lakha Lehri. Vice-Chancellor, Dr Jaspal Singh, who was the chief guest, appreciated the brilliant effort of translating into Punjabi one of the greatest works by the most celebrated English playwright.

ਪਟਿਆਲਾ, 23 ਅਪ੍ਰੈਲ- ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ, ਪਟਿਆਲਾ ਦੇ ਪੱਤਰ ਵਿਹਾਰ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਵਲੋਂ 'ਵਰਲਡ ਅਰਥ ਡੇ' ਮੌਕੇ ਅਮਰੀਕਾ ਦੇ ਉਪ ਰਾਸ਼ਟਰਪਤੀ ਸ਼੍ਰੀ ਅਲਗੌਰ ਵਲੋਂ ਵਾਤਾਵਰਣ ਬਾਰੇ ਬਣਾਈ ਫਿਲਮ 'ਦਾ  ਇਨਕਨਵੀਅਨਿਟ ਟਰੁਥ' ਦਾ ਫਿਲਮਾਂਕਣ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ। ਫਿਲਮ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਦਿਖਾਇਆ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਕਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਗਲੋਬਲ ਵਾਰਮਿੰਗ ਕਾਰਨ ਧਰਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਵੱਡਾ ਖਤਰਾ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ। ਫਿਲਮ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਇਹ ਦਿਖਾਇਆ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਭਵਿੱਖ ਵਿਚ  ਸਾਡੇ ਗ੍ਰਹਿ ਅਤੇ ਸਭਿਅਤਾ ਨੂੰ ਖਤਮ ਹੋਣ ਦਾ ਕਿੰਨਾਂ ਵੱਡਾ ਖਤਰਾ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਫਿਲਮ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਇਹ ਵੀ ਸੰਦੇਸ਼ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਕਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਅਸੀਂ ਵਾਤਾਵਰਣ ਨੂੰ ਬਚਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਆਪਣਾ ਵੱਧ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਧ ਯੋਗਦਾਨ ਪਾ ਕੇ  ਬਦਲਾਅ ਲਿਆ ਸਕਦੇ ਹਾਂ। ਫਿਲਮ ਵਿਚ ਜੋਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਸੀ.ਐਫ.ਐਲ. ਬਲਬ ਦੀ ਵਰਤੋਂ, ਘਰੇਲੂ ਰਹਿੰਦ ਖੂੰਹਦ ਦਾ ਮੁੜ ਤੋਂ ਉਪਯੋਗ, ਪਾਣੀ ਦੀ ਘੱਟ ਵਰਤੋਂ, ਪਲਾਸਟਿਕ ਦੀ ਘੱਟ ਵਰਤੋਂ ਅਤੇ ਬਿਜਲੀ ਯੰਤਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਘੱਟ  ਤੋਂ ਘੱਟ ਵਰਤੋਂ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਅਤੇ ਵੱਧ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਧ ਦਰੱਖਤ ਲਾ ਕੇ ਧਰਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਤਬਾਹ ਹੋਣ ਤੋਂ ਬਚਾ ਸਕਦੇ ਹਾਂ। ਇਸ ਫਿਲਮ ਨੂੰ ਦੇਖਣ ਵਾਲਿਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਦੇ ਉਪ-ਕੁਲਪਤੀ ਡਾ. ਜਸਪਾਲ ਸਿੰਘ ਤੋਂ ਇਲਾਵਾ ਪੱਤਰ ਵਿਹਾਰ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ
ਵਿਭਾਗ ਦੇ ਅਧਿਆਪਕ ਸਾਹਿਬਾਨ ਅਤੇ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀ ਵੀ ਵੱਡੀ ਗਿਣਤੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਪਹੁੰਚੇ ਹੋਏ ਸਨ। ਇਸ ਮੌਕੇ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਦੀ ਵਾਤਾਵਰਣ ਸੁਸਾਇਟੀ ਨੇ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਜਿੱਥੇ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਵਿਚ ਵਾਤਾਵਰਨ ਪੱਖੀ ਮਾਹੋਲ ਬਣਾਉਣ ਲਈ  ਸਿਰਜਣ ਦਾ ਸੰਦੇਸ਼ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਉਥੇ ਇਸ ਸੰਦੇਸ਼ ਨੂੰ ਹੋਰਨਾਂ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਤੱਕ ਪਹੁੰਚਾਉਣ ਦੀ ਅਪੀਲ ਕੀਤੀ।

The Inconvenient Truth

Patiala, April 23- The Department of Correspondence Courses, Punjabi University, Patiala showed world's best movie on environment, "The Inconvenient Truth" made by the Vice President of the USA, Mr. Algore to mark the World Earth Day Celebrations.  It was an eye-opening and compelling view of future of our planet and our civilization.  He warned the people that global warming is a real and a big danger to the planet earth.

The movie gave a message that each and every one of us can make changes in the way in which we live and can become part of the solution.  The movie sensatizes the people by focusing on the use of CFL Bulbs, using car pools, recycling the household waste, using less hot water, avoiding packaging of products, adjustment of thermostats, turning of electronic devices when they are not in use and planting a tree.

Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Jaspal Singh, alongwith a large number of faculty members watched the movie.

Academic staff college gets off to a start at Pbi varsity

Patiala, April 22- The prestigious project of setting up of a new Academic Staff College (ASC) at Punjabi University, Patiala, got off to a start with Vice-Chancellor, Dr Jaspal Singh constituting a three-member committee to conduct and monitor its various activities from time to time. While Dr N.K. Dogra, a Professor in the Political Science Department, was appointed as its coordinator, Dr Devinder Singh, Director, Planning and Monitoring and Dr Jaswinder Singh, Professor in the Punjabi Department, were appointed other members of the committee. The committee, inter alia, will draw various proposals and coordinate its functioning with the University Grants Commission, which has sanctioned Rs 1.25 crore for establishing the 58th ASC in the country at Punjabi University.

            The College, Dr Jaspal Singh said, would be made fully operational by the first week of May next to initiate the process conducting refresher and orientation courses for the University and College teachers, which were prerequisite for them to seek promotions under the Career Advancement Scheme (CAS). All the departments have been asked to send their proposals for conducting these courses during the oncoming academic session, he added. The ASC, he said, will also organise workshops and short-term courses for the college principals and other academic administrators to further improve their skills and functioning. Dr Jaspal Singh further said that as an exclusive measure, the ASC would lay special focus on promoting the overall development of Punjabi and evolving a neo-scientific temperament through various programmes, keeping in mind the objective of furthering the cause of community welfare.

            The Vice-Chancellor said that a makeshift arrangement has been made for the college in the Students’ Home arena by renovating a building, which earlier housed the State Government’s Employment Exchange, till the new structure comes up. The UGC has sanctioned Rs 75 lakhs for building a new guest house for the teachers, participating in various courses to be run by the ASC, while Rs 20 lakhs have been sanctioned for creating a computer lab and another Rs 30 lakhs as initial expenditure on various activities.

TTV dept to stage "King Lear"

Patiala, April 21- To celebrate the birth anniversary of William Shakespeare, the students of Punjabi University’s Department of Theatre and Television are presenting his classic play, “King Lear” in the University Kala Bhawan. According to Dr Sunita Dhir, HoD of TTV, the play, designed and directed by the noted theatre director, Mr Kewal Dhaliwal, will be staged on April 21, 22 and 23 at 6.30 p.m. Vice-Chancellor, Dr Jaspal Singh will be the Chief Guest on April 23, the birthday of Shakespeare.

Lecture on "current global crisis"

Patiala, April 19- The Punjabi University’s Department of Sociology and Social Anthropology organised a lecture on the “Current Global Crisis” by Dr Pritam Singh, Director, Postgraduate Programme in International Management and International Relations at Oxford Brookes University, U.K.

              Dubbing the current economic crisis as a crisis of global capitalism, he linked it with capitalist production system and the rampant use of non renewable resources. It involved the evolution of political economic thought and its impact on policy making, the unstable financial markets, and the depleting oil and food resources, he said. The unscrupulous use of nature and its resources and the resultant pollution caused by the consumed and unconsumed waste has intensified the situation, Dr Singh added. He emphasized upon the need for evolving a new paradigm, keeping in view the ecological dimension. The lecture was followed by a discussion by Dr. Sucha Singh Gill, Dr. Birinder Pal Singh, Dr. Gurbhagat Singh, Dr. Joga Singh and others.

ਪਟਿਆਲਾ, 15 ਅਪ੍ਰੈਲ- ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਦੇ ਐਨ.ਐਸ.ਐਸ. ਕੋਆਰਡੀਨੇਟਰ ਡਾ. ਪਰਮਵੀਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੂੰ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਸਟੇਟ ਕਾਊਂਸਿਲ ਫਾਰ ਸਾਇੰਸ ਐਂਡ ਟੈਕਨਾਲੋਜੀ, ਚੰਡੀਗੜ੍ਹ ਵਲੋਂ 'ਪੰਜਾਬ ਦੇ ਵੱਖ-ਵੱਖ ਜਿਲਿਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਸੰਕਟ ਸਮੇਂ ਤਿਆਰੀ' ਬਾਰੇ ਪੰਜ ਵਰਕਸ਼ਾਪਾਂ ਆਯੋਜਿਤ ਕਰਨ ਦਾ ਕਾਰਜ ਸੌਂਪਿਆ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਕਾਰਜ ਲਈ ਕਾਊਂਸਿਲ ਨੇ ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਰਕਸ਼ਾਪਾਂ ਲਈ ਨਿਰਧਾਰਤ 3.08 ਲੱਖ ਰੁਪਏ ਅਤੇ 1.85 ਲੱਖ ਰੁਪਏ ਦੀ ਪਹਿਲੀ ਕਿਸ਼ਤ ਵੀ ਤਿੰਨ ਦਿਨਾ ਵਰਕਸ਼ਾਪਾਂ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਜਾਰੀ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੈ। ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਰਕਸ਼ਾਪਾਂ ਬਾਰੇ ਜਾਣਕਾਰੀ ਦਿੰਦਿਆਂ ਡਾ. ਪਰਮਵੀਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੇ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਕਿ ਵਰਕਸ਼ਾਪ ਦੇ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਮੁੱਢਲੀ ਸਹਾਇਤਾ, ਭੂਚਾਲ ਪ੍ਰਬੰਧ, ਹੜ੍ਹ ਪ੍ਰਬੰਧ, ਫਾਇਰ ਪ੍ਰਬੰਧ ਅਤੇ ਹੋਰਨਾਂ ਕੁਦਰਤੀ ਆਫਤਾਂ ਸਮੇਂ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਜਾਨੀ ਮਾਲੀ ਨੁਕਸਾਨ ਨੂੰ ਰੋਕਣ ਲਈ ਲੋਕਾ ਨੂੰ ਜਾਣਕਾਰੀ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਜਾਵੇਗੀ। ਪੰਜਾਬ ਸਟੇਟ ਕਾਊਂਸਿਲ ਆਫ ਸਾਇੰਸ ਐਂਡ ਟੈਕਨਾਲੋਜੀ ਨੇ ਡਾ. ਪਰਮਵੀਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਇਸ ਕਾਰਜ ਲਈ ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕ ਦੇਵ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ, ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਸਰ, ਖੇਤੀਬਾੜੀ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ, ਲੁਧਿਆਣਾ ਅਤੇ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ, ਚੰਡੀਗੜ੍ਹ ਦੇ ਐਨ.ਐਸ.ਐਸ. ਵਿਭਾਗ ਦੀ ਮਦਦ ਲੈਣ। ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਰਕਸ਼ਾਪਾਂ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਵਿਸ਼ੇਸ਼ ਲੈਕਚਰ ਸੈਸ਼ਨ, ਪ੍ਰੈਕਟੀਕਲ ਸੈਸ਼ਨ ਅਤੇ ਲਿਟਰੇਚਰ ਵੰਡ ਸੈਸ਼ਨ ਲਾਏ ਜਾਣਗੇ। ਡਾ. ਪਰਮਵੀਰ ਨੇ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਕਿ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਦੇ ਵੱਖ-ਵੱਖ ਐਨ.ਐਸ.ਐਸ. ਵਿਭਾਗਾਂ ਦੇ ਕੋਆਰਡੀਨੇਟਰਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਗੱਲਬਾਤ ਕਰਕੇ ਜਲਦ ਹੀ ਵਰਕਸ਼ਾਪਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਤਰੀਕਾਂ ਨਿਸ਼ਚਤ ਕੀਤੀਆਂ ਜਾਣਗੀਆਂ।

ਪਟਿਆਲਾ,15 ਅਪ੍ਰੈਲ- ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਦੇ ਫੋਰੈਂਸਿਕ ਸਾਇੰਸ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਵਲੋਂ ਕੇਂਦਰੀ ਗ੍ਰਹਿ ਮੰਤਰਾਲੇ ਦੇ ਡਾਇਰਕਟੋਰੇਟ ਆਫ ਫੋਰੈਂਸਿਕ ਸਾਇੰਸ ਦੇ ਸਲਾਹਕਾਰ ਡਾ. ਸੀ.ਆਰ. ਮੁਕੰਨਦਾਨ ਦਾ 'ਐਪਲੀਕੇਸ਼ਨ ਆਫ ਬਰੇਨ ਪ੍ਰੋਫਿਲਿੰਗ ਇਨ ਕਰਾਈਮ ਇਨਵੈਸਟੀਗੇਸ਼ਨ' ਵਿਸ਼ੇ ਤੇ ਸੈਨੇਟ ਹਾਲ ਵਿਖੇ ਵਿਸ਼ੇਸ਼ ਲੈਕਚਰ ਕਰਵਾਇਆ ਗਿਆ। ਇਸ ਮੌਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਧਾਨਗੀ ਭਾਸ਼ਣ ਦਿੰਦਿਆਂ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਦੇ ਉਪ-ਕੁਲਪਤੀ ਡਾ. ਜਸਪਾਲ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਸਾਈਬਰ ਕਰਾਈਮ ਕਾਰਨ ਵੱਡੇ ਖਤਰੇ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ, ਹੋਰ ਤਾਂ ਹੋਰ ਅਪਰਾਧੀ ਜਾਂਚ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਮੁਕਾਬਲੇ ਨਵੀਂ ਡਿਜੀਟਲ ਤਕਨਾਲੋਜੀ ਅਤੇ ਅਜਿਹੀਆਂ ਹੋਰਨਾਂ ਤਕਨੀਕਾਂ ਬਾਰੇ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਹੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਢਾਲ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ। ਡਾ. ਜਸਪਾਲ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਦੇ ਫੋਰੈਂਸਿਕ ਸਾਇੰਸ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਵਿਖੇ 'ਸਾਈਬਰ ਲੈਬ' ਸਥਾਪਿਤ ਕੀਤੀ ਜਾ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ ਜਿੱਥੇ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਾਈਬਰ ਕਰਾਈਮ ਨਾਲ ਨਜਿੱਠਣ ਬਾਰੇ ਨਿੱਤ ਦਿਨ ਬਦਲ ਰਹੀ ਤਕਨਾਲੋਜੀ ਦਾ ਹਾਣੀ ਬਣਾਇਆ ਜਾਵੇਗਾ। ਡਾ. ਜਸਪਾਲ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਦੁਨੀਆਂ ਭਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋ ਰਹੇ ਨਵੇਂ ਕਿਸਮ ਦੇ ਅੱਤਵਾਦ ਕਾਰਨ ਪੂਰੀ ਮਨੁੱਖਤਾ ਨੂੰ ਖਤਰਾ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਮਨੁੱਖਤਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਬਚਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਤੇ ਅਜਿਹੇ ਗੈਰ-ਸਮਾਜੀ ਤੱਤਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਖਤਮ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਵਿਗਿਆਨੀਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਸਾਂਝੇ ਯਤਨ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਲੋੜ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਮੌਕੇ ਵਿਸ਼ੇਸ਼ ਲੈਕਚਰ ਦਿੰਦਿਆਂ ਕੇਂਦਰੀ ਗ੍ਰਹਿ ਮੰਤਰਾਲੇ ਦੇ ਡਾਇਰੈਕਟੋਰੇਟ ਆਫ ਫੋਰੈਂਸਿਕ ਸਾਇੰਸਜ਼ ਦੇ ਸਲਾਹਕਾਰ ਅਤੇ ਕਲਿਨਕਲ ਸਾਈਕਾਲੋਜੀ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਨੈਸ਼ਨਲ ਇੰਸਟੀਚਿਊਟ ਆਫ ਮੈਂਟਲ ਹੈਲਥ ਐਂਡ ਨਿਊਰੋ ਸਾਇੰਸਜ਼, ਬੰਗਲੌਰ ਦੇ ਨਿਊਰੋਕਸਾਈਕਾਲੋਜੀਕਲ ਲੈਬਾਰਟਰੀ ਅਤੇ ਕਲਿਨੀਕਲ ਯੂਨਿਟ ਦੇ ਮੁਖੀ ਡਾ. ਸੀ.ਆਰ. ਮੁੰਕੰਨਦਾਨ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਦੁਨੀਆਂ ਭਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਅਪਰਾਧੀਆਂ ਵਲੋਂ ਅਪਰਾਧ ਲਈ ਅਪਣਾਏ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਢੰਗ ਤਰੀਕਿਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਵੱਡੀ ਤਬਦੀਲੀ ਆਈ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਅਪਰਾਧੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਫੜਨ ਲਈ ਅਤਿਆਧੁਨਿਕ ਤਕਨਾਲੋਜੀ ਦਾ ਵਿਕਾਸ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਨਾਲ ਅਪਰਾਧੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਕਾਬੂ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਜਾਚ ਵਿਗਿਆਨ ਅਤੇ ਹੋਰ ਪੁਖਤਾ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ। ਡਾ. ਸੀ.ਆਰ. ਮੁਕੰਨਦਾਨ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਅੱਜ ਕੱਲ ਦੇ ਦੌਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਅਪਰਾਧੀ ਵੀ ਅਪਰਾਧ ਕਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਬੜੀ ਸਾਵਧਾਨੀ ਨਾਲ ਘਿਣੌਣੀ ਹਰਕਤ ਨੂੰ ਅੰਜਾਮ ਦਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਜਿਸ ਕਾਰਨ ਜਾਂਚ ਏਜੰਸੀਆਂ ਦਾ ਕੰਮ ਹੋਰ ਗੁੰਝਲਦਾਰ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ। ਡਾ. ਮੁਕੰਨਦਾਨ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਸਾਇੰਸ ਦੇ ਖੇਤਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੋ ਰਹੀਆਂ ਨਵੀਆਂ ਕਾਢਾਂ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਅਜਿਹੇ ਅਪਰਾਧੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਕਾਬੂ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਅਪਣਾਏ ਜਾਣ ਦੀ ਬੜੀ ਲੋੜ ਹੈ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਕਿ ਡੀ.ਐਨ.ਏ. ਫਿੰਗਰ-ਪ੍ਰਿੰਟਿੰਗ ਆਮ ਤੌਰ ਤੇ ਅਜਿਹੇ ਅਪਰਾਧੀਆਂ ਦੀ ਪਛਾਣ ਲਈ ਵਰਤੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਗਲਤ ਬਿਆਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਗੁਪਤ ਅਪਰਾਧੀਆਂ ਤੱਕ ਪਹੁੰਚਣ ਲਈ ਜਰੂਰੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਪੜਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਤਕਨੀਕ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਕਸਤ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾਵੇ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਅਜਿਹੀ ਤਕਨੀਕ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਕਸਤ ਅਤੇ ਵਿਕਾਸਸ਼ੀਲ ਦੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਵਲੋਂ ਬੜੇ ਗੰਭੀਰ ਯਤਨ ਕੀਤੇ ਜਾ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ। ਯੂ.ਕੇ., ਅਮਰੀਕਾ, ਯੂਰਪ, ਜਪਾਨ, ਇਸਰਾਈਲ ਅਤੇ ਭਾਰਤ ਅਜਿਹੇ ਦੇਸ਼ ਹਨ ਜਿੱਥੇ ਇਹ ਉਪਰਾਲੇ ਜਾਰੀ ਹਨ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਕਿ 'ਬਰੇਨ ਇਲੈਕਟਰੀਕਲ ਓਸੀਨੇਸ਼ਨਜ਼ ਸਿਗਨੇਚਰ ਪ੍ਰੋਫਿਲਿੰਗ' ਅਜਿਹੀ ਵੀ ਵਿਧੀ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਭਾਰਤ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਕਸਤ ਕੀਤੀ ਗਈ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਇਹ ਗਾਂਧੀ ਨਗਰ ਅਤੇ ਮੁੰਬਈ ਵਿੱਚ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਹੀ ਵਰਤੀ ਜਾ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਜਲਦ ਹੀ ਸੀ.ਐਫ.ਐਸ.ਐਲ, ਚੰਡੀਗੜ੍ਹ ਵਿਚ ਵੀ ਇਹ ਸਹੂਲਤ ਮੁਹੱਈਆ ਕਰਵਾਈ ਜਾਵੇਗੀ। ਇਸ ਮੌਕੇ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਦੇ ਫੋਰੈਂਸਿਕ ਸਾਇੰਸ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਦੇ ਮੁਖੀ ਡਾ. ਮੁਕੇਸ਼ ਠੱਕਰ ਨੇ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਕਿ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਹੀ ਉਤਰੀ ਭਾਰਤ ਦੀ ਇਕੱਲੀ ਅਜਿਹੀ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਹੈ, ਜਿਥੇ ਐਸ.ਐਸ.ਸੀ. ਫੋਰੈਂਸਿਕ ਸਾਇੰਸ ਦੀ ਪੜਾਈ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕੀਤੀ ਗਈ ਸੀ। ਡਾ. ਮੁਕੇਸ਼ ਨੇ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਕਿ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਦੇ ਕਈ ਪੁਰਾਣੇ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀ ਦੇਸ਼ ਦੀਆਂ ਨਾਮਵਰ ਫੋਰੈਂਸਿਕ ਸਾਇੰਸ ਲੈਬਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਬੜੇ ਉੱਚ ਅਹੁਦਿਆਂ ਤੇ ਤਾਇਨਾਤ ਹਨ ਜੋ ਸਮੇਂ ਸਮੇਂ ਤੇ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਕੇ ਨਵੇਂ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਫੋਰੈਂਸਿਕ ਸਾਇੰਸ ਦੇ ਖੇਤਰ ਵਿਚ ਹੋ ਰਹੀਆਂ ਨਵੀਆਂ ਕਾਢਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਿੱਜੀ ਤਜਰਬਿਆਂ ਤੋਂ ਜਾਣੂ ਕਰਵਾਉਂਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਇਸ ਮੌਕੇ ਐਸ.ਐਸ.ਪੀ., ਪਟਿਆਲਾ ਸ਼੍ਰੀ ਅਰਪਿਤ ਸ਼ੁੱਕਲਾ, ਏ.ਆਈ.ਜੀ. ਸ਼੍ਰੀ ਸਿੱਧੂ, ਏ.ਆਈ.ਜੀ. ਸ਼੍ਰੀ ਵਿਰਕ, ਐਸ.ਪੀ. ਸ਼੍ਰੀ ਮਨਦੀਪ ਸਿੱਧੂ, ਐਸ.ਪੀ. ਸ਼੍ਰੀ ਰਣਜੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਢਿਲੋਂ ਅਤੇ ਲਾਅ, ਜਰਨਲਿਜ਼ਮ ਅਤੇ ਸਾਈਕਾਲੋਜੀ ਵਿਭਾਗਾਂ ਦੇ ਅਧਿਆਪਕ ਸਾਹਿਬਾਨ ਅਤੇ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਵੀ ਸ਼ਿਰਕਤ ਕੀਤੀ।

Cyber crime attaining threatening postures

Patiala, April 16- The Department of Forensic Science, Punjabi University, organised a special lecture by Dr C.R. Mukandan, Advisor to the Directorate of Forensic Science, Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India on “Application of Brain Profiling in Crime Investigation” at the Senate Hall here today.

            While rating brain mapping, lie detection tests and NARCO analysis low on scientific specifity, Dr Mukandan said these tests could not be used as concrete, primary or material evidence against the suspects. It therefore becomes imperative to develop newer technologies in the larger interests of the society for extracting information directly from their brains, irrespective of the fact that they go against personal privileges of individuals. This practice was also necessary because of the fact that investigation of the crime by the government agencies has become extremely complex, even as the perpetrators of crime not only conceal information but were also becoming apt at misdirecting the investigators, Dr Mukandan said.

            In his presidential remarks, Dr Jaspal Singh, Vice-Chancellor, said that cyber crime was attaining threatening postures, even as the criminals usually outsmart the investigators of crime by quickly adapting themselves to using new digital softwares and other technological gadgets and measures. He sanctioned the creation of a “cyber lab” in the Department of Forensic Science to create new softwares to tackle this menace which was getting strengthened with each passing day, he said.

            The Vice-Chancellor further said that crime scene all over the world was undergoing drastic changes and so was the nature of crimes being committed, with the world witnessing fast-paced changes in the evolving socio-economic order in a bizarre and lopsided manner. The situation was getting more complex with greed and ambitions touching a new high and with greater forces of uncontrolled desires driving the vulnerable citizens towards committing criminal acts. A collective effort by the scientists and the government can only save the humanity from getting perished in the near future, Dr Jaspal Singh said.

            The audience comprised a large number of police officers, including SSP, Patiala, Mr Arpit Shukla, AIGs Mr S. S. Sidhu and Mr P.S.Virk, SPs, Mr Satpal Sidhu, Mr Mandeep Singh Sidhu and Mr Ranjit Singh Dhillon.
 

Pbi varsity to make film on H.S.Dilbar

Patiala, April 11- The octogenarian poet, famous for his unusual sting as a hallmark of his satirical comedy, Mr Hari Singh Dilbar of Sirsa in Haryana will ultimately get a chance to see himself on small screen. His latent, though long-cherished desire will get materialised with Punjabi University’s Vice-Chancellor, Dr Jaspal Singh making a formal announcement to make a documentary on the life and contribution of Mr Dilbar on the horizon of satirical comedy.           Dr Jaspal Singh made this declaration while presiding over a kavi darbar, organised by the University’s Directorate of Youth Welfare at the Kala Bhawan in which 20 poets recited their poetry in Hindi, Punjabi and Urdu. Mr Dilbar, well known for his chaukes and chhikes(fours and sixes) is perhaps the only celebrated poet from India, who is invited every year by the organisers of Punjabi Sahit Acadmey, New Delhi on the occasion of independent and republic day celebrations. One of his chuakas  went like this: Azadi te aayi aie par aundi charh gayi karan andar,Iinqulab kharha hai aj vi rashan diyan ktaran andar,Ticket lain layi neta aidan aunde ne darbaran andar, Jidan khusra pagg bann ke beh jave sarkaran andar

            Himself a noted poet and one of the participants in the kavi darbar, Dr Satsih Kumar Verma, Director, Youth Welfare, said that Punjabi University was the only institution in this part of the country to have made an effort to hold a tri-lingual satirical comedy festival on its campus. Earlier, the department had organised first-of-its-kind, religious poetry festival to commemorate the third centenary celebrations of gurta gaddi divas, he said. The other poets, who recited their poems, included Nashir Naqvi, Gurbhajan Gill, Sardar Panchhi, Jaswant Zafar, T.N. Raj, Jang Singh Fattar, J. Rathi, Daan Singh Komal, Amarajit Singh Amar, Jagjit Kaur Bholi, and Satish Kumar Verma.

Bioinformatics , Human Genetics, Industrial Microbiology and Microbial and Food Technology Part II; B.C.A. Part II and III; Certificate Course in Physical Education Part II; B.P.E. Part II; B.P. Ed.(one year course); PGDCA; M.A. Part I in Political Science, Defense and Strategic Studies, Sanskrit, Sociology, English, Women Studies, Journalism and Mass Communication, History, Economics, Hindi, Urdu, and Persian; M.A. Part II in History, Economics, Hindi, Urdu, and Persian; Master of Physical Education Part II; M.Com. Part II and Parbhakar. Giving this information, Dr N.S. Atri, Controller of Examinations, said that the remaining examinations, however, will be held as scheduled earlier.

ਪਟਿਆਲਾ, 10 ਅਪ੍ਰੈਲ- ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਪਟਿਆਲਾ ਦੇ ਕੰਪਿਊਟਰ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਵੱਲੋਂ ''ਸੂਚਨਾ ਤਕਨਾਲੋਜੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਆਧੁਨਿਕ ਤਰੱਕੀ ਅਤੇ ਭਵਿੱਖਮਈ ਰੁਝਾਨ'' ਵਿਸ਼ੇ ਤੇ ਆਯੋਜਿਤ ਕੀਤੀ ਰਾਸ਼ਟਰੀ ਕਾਨਫਰੰਸ ਕਾਫੀ ਸਾਰਥਿਕ ਸਿੱਧ ਹੋਈ। ਡਾ. ਗੁਰਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਲਹਿਲ ਨੇ ਕਾਨਫਰੰਸ ਦੀ ਕਾਰਵਾਈ ਰਿਪੋਰਟ ਜਾਰੀ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਕਾਨਫਰੰਸ ਵਿਚ ਕੁਲ 5 ਤਕਨੀਕੀ ਸਾਭਾਵਾਂ ਦਾ ਆਯੋਜਨ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ ਜਿਸ ਵਿਚ ਭਾਰਤ ਦੇ ਵੱਖ-ਵੱਖ ਕੋਨਿਆਂ ਤੋਂ ਕੰਪਿਊਟਰ ਮਾਹਿਰਾਂ ਨੇ ਸ਼ਮੂਲੀਅਤ ਕੀਤੀ। ਕਾਨਫਰੰਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਵੱਖ-ਵੱਖ ਵਿਦਵਾਨਾਂ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਕੁਲ 33 ਖੋਜ ਪਰਚੇ ਪੜ੍ਹੇ ਗਏ ਅਤੇ 7 ਵੱਖ-ਵੱਖ ਉਘੇ ਕੰਪਿਊਟਰ ਮਾਹਿਰਾ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਵਿਸ਼ੇਸ਼ ਭਾਸ਼ਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਆਯੋਜਨ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ। ਸਰਟੀਫਾਈਡ ਡਿਸਕ ਡੁਪਲੀਕੇਸ਼ਨ ਐਂਡ ਕੰਪਿਊਟਰ ਦੇ ਸੰਸਥਾਪਕ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਸੁਮੀਰ ਦੱਤ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਭਾਸ਼ਣ ਵਿਚ ਸਾਈਬਰ ਅਪਰਾਧਾਂ ਦੀ ਰੋਕਥਾਮ ਬਾਰੇ ਵੱਡਮੁਲੀ ਜਾਣਕਾਰੀ ਦਿੱਤੀ। ਸਕੂਲ ਆਫ ਕੰਪਿਊਟਰ ਐਂਡ ਸਿਸਟਮ ਸਾਇੰਸਿੰਜ਼, ਜਵਾਹਰ ਲਾਲ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਨਵੀਂ ਦਿੱਲੀ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰੋ. ਕੇ.ਕੇ. ਭਾਰਦਵਾਜ਼ ਨੇ ਵੈਬ ਤਕਨਾਲੋਜੀ ਵਿਸ਼ੇ ਤੇ ਭਾਸ਼ਨ ਦਿੱਤਾ। ਐਨ.ਆਈ.ਟੀ. ਜਲੰਧਰ ਦੇ ਡਾਇਰੈਕਟਰ ਡਾ. ਮੋਹਿਨ ਉਦੀਨ ਨੇ ਕੰਪਿਊਟਰ ਦੀ ਬੇਤਾਰ ਪ੍ਰਣਾਲੀ ਬਾਰੇ ਵਿਸਥਾਰ ਨਾਲ ਜਾਣਕਾਰੀ ਦਿੱਤੀ। ਗੌਰਤਲਬ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਕਾਨਫਰੰਸ ਦੇ ਉਦਘਾਟਨੀ ਸਮਾਰੋਹ ਮੌਕੇ ਕੰਪਿਊਟਰ ਵੀਜ਼ਨ ਐਂਡ ਪੈਨਰਨ ਰਿਕੋਗਨੀਸ਼ਨ ਯੂਨਿਟ ਕਲਕੱਤਾ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰੋਫੈਸਰ ਅਤੇ ਮੁਖੀ ਡਾ. ਬੀ.ਬੀ. ਚੌਧਰੀ ਨੇ ਮੁੱਖ ਮਹਿਮਾਨ ਵਜੋਂ ਸ਼ਮੂਲਿਅਤ ਕੀਤੀ ਅਤੇ ਉਘੇ ਕੰਪਿਊਟਰ ਵਿਗਿਆਨੀ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਨਿਆਮ ਭੂਸ਼ਨ ਨੇ ਕੂੰਜੀਵਾਦ ਭਾਸ਼ਨ ਪੇਸ਼ ਕੀਤਾ। ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਦੇ ਵਾਈਸ-ਚਾਂਸਲਰ ਡਾ. ਜਸਪਾਲ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੇ ਕੰਪਿਊਟਰ ਸਾਇੰਸ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਦੀਆਂ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤੀਆਂ ਬਾਰੇ ਦੱਸਦਿਆਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਭਾਸ਼ਾ ਦੇ ਤਕਨੀਕੀ ਵਿਕਾਸ ਦਾ ਉੱਚਤਮ ਕੇਂਦਰ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਅਧਾਰਿਤ ਸਾਫਟਵੇਅਰ ਤਿਆਰ ਕਰਨ 'ਚੋਂ ਮੋਹਰੀ ਭੂਮਿਕਾ ਨਿਭਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ। ਉਹਨਾਂ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਦੀਆਂ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤੀਆਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਆਨ ਲਾਈਨ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਅਧਿਆਪਨ, ਵਰਡ ਪ੍ਰੋਸੈਸਰ, ਸਰਚ ਇੰਜਨ ਅਤੇ ਵੱਖ-ਵੱਖ ਲਿਪੀਅੰਤਰਨ ਕੰਪਿਊਟਰ ਪ੍ਰੋਗਰਾਮਾਂ ਦਾ ਬੜੀ ਪ੍ਰਮੁੱਖਤਾ ਨਾਲ ਜਿਕਰ ਕੀਤਾ। ਇਸ ਤੋਂ ਇਲਾਵਾ ਕਾਨਫਰੰਸ ਦੇ ਪਹਿਲੇ ਦਿਨ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਾਮ ਸਭਿਆਚਾਰ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਕੀਤੀ ਗਈ। ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਦੇ ਕਲਾ ਭਵਨ ਵਿਚ ਭਾਰਤੀ ਅਤੇ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਸਭਿਆਚਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਪੇਸ਼ ਕਰਦਾ ਸ਼ਾਨਦਾਰ ਪ੍ਰੋਗਰਾਮ ਆਯੋਜਿਤ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ। ਕੰਪਿਊਟਰ ਸਾਇੰਸ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਦੇ ਮੁਖੀ ਅਤੇ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਭਾਸ਼ਾ ਦੇ ਤਕਨੀਕੀ ਵਿਕਾਸ ਦੇ ਉੱਚਤਮ ਕੇਂਦਰ ਦੇ ਡਾਇਰੈਕਟਰ ਡਾ. ਗੁਰਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਲਹਿਲ ਨੇ ਬਾਹਰੋਂ ਆਏ ਮਹਿਮਾਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਧੰਨਵਾਦ ਕੀਤਾ। ਕਾਨਫਰੰਸ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਬੰਧਕੀ ਸਕੱਤਰ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਵਿਸ਼ਾਲ ਗੋਇਲ ਅਤੇ ਸ੍ਰੀਮਤੀ ਗਗਨਦੀਪ ਕੌਰ ਨੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਨੁਮਾਇੰਦਿਆਂ, ਪ੍ਰਬੰਧਕਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਦੇ ਸਮੁੱਚੇ ਸਟਾਫ਼ ਦਾ ਸਹਿਯੋਗ ਦੇਣ ਲਈ ਧੰਨਵਾਦ ਕੀਤਾ। ਦੋ ਰੋਜ਼ਾ ਰਾਸ਼ਟਰੀ ਕਾਨਫਰੰਸ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਕੰਪਿਊਟਰ ਸਾਇੰਸ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀ ਸਭਾ ਦੀ ਪਹਿਲੀ ਸਲਾਨਾ ਇੱਕਤਰਤਾ ਕਰਵਾਈ ਗਈ। ਕੰਪਿਊਟਰ ਸਾਇੰਸ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਦੇ ਮੁਖੀ ਡਾ. ਗੁਰਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਲਹਿਲ ਨੇ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਕਿ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਪਾਸ ਹੋਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਲਈ ਇਕ ਸਭਾ ਬਣਾਈ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਮੰਤਵ ਪੁਰਾਣੇ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਕੈਰੀਅਰ ਲਈ ਨਰੋਈ ਸੇਧ ਦੇਣਾ ਹੈ। ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਕਿ ਸਭਾ ਵਿਚ ਕੁਲ 100 ਸਰਗਰਮ ਮੈਂਬਰ ਅਤੇ ਇਸ ਤੋਂ ਦੁਗਣੇ ਇੰਟਰਨੈੱਟ ਰਾਹੀ ਦਰਜ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ। ਇੱਕਤਰਤਾ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਨੂੰ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੇ ਵੱਖ-ਵੱਖ ਖਿਤਿਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਕੋਨਿਆਂ ਵਿਚ ਕੰਮ ਕਰ ਰਹੇ ਪੁਰਾਣੇ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਬਾਰੇ ਵੱਡਮੁਲੀ ਜਾਣਕਾਰੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਕਿ ਆਉਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਲਈ ਮਾਰਗ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਕਰੇਗੀ। ਸਭਾ ਦੇ ਜਨਰਲ ਸਕੱਤਰ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਵਿਸ਼ਾਲ ਗੋਇਲ ਨੇ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਕਿ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਤੋਂ ਕੰਪਿਊਟਰ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਪੂਰੀ ਕਰ ਚੁੱਕੇ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਲਗਾਤਾਰ ਸੰਪਰਕ ਬਣਾਈ ਰੱਖਦੇ ਹਨ। ਅੰਤ ਵਿਚ ਡਾ. ਲਹਿਲ ਨੇ ਸਭਾ ਦੇ ਮੈਂਬਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਨਮਾਨਿਤ ਵੀ ਕੀਤਾ।

ਪਟਿਆਲਾ, 10 ਅਪ੍ਰੈਲ- ਯੁਵਕ ਭਲਾਈ ਵਿਭਾਗ, ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ, ਪਟਿਆਲਾ ਵਲੋਂ ਚਲਾਈ ਗਈ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀ ਚੇਤਨਾ ਲਹਿਰ ਦੇ ਅੰਤਰਗਤ ਸਾਹਿਤ-ਚੇਤਨਾ ਜਗਾਉਣ ਹਿੱਤ ਸਰਬ-ਭਾਰਤੀ ਤ੍ਰੈਭਾਸ਼ੀ ਹਾਸ-ਵਿਅੰਗ ਕਵੀ ਦਰਬਾਰ ਕਰਵਾਇਆ ਗਿਆ। ਇਸੇ ਕੜੀ ਵਿਚ ਪਿਛਲੇ ਸਾਲ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਗ੍ਰੰਥ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਗੁਰੂਤਾ ਗਦੀ ਵਰ੍ਹੇ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਰਪਿਤ ਵਿਰਸਾ-ਚੇਤਨਾ ਜਗਾਉਣ ਹਿਤ ਸਰਬ-ਭਾਰਤੀ ਧਾਰਮਿਕ ਕਵੀ ਦਰਬਾਰ ਕਰਵਾਇਆ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ। ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਵਿਚ ਹਾਸ-ਵਿਅੰਗ ਕਵਿਤਾ ਦੀ ਧਾਰਾ ਖ਼ਤਮ ਹੋਣ ਕੰਢੇ ਹੈ। ਅਜਿਹੇ ਸਮੇਂ ਹਾਸ-ਵਿਅੰਗ ਖੇਤਰ ਦੇ ਦਰਜਨਾਂ ਕਵੀ ਲੱਭ ਕੇ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਵਿਚ ਪਹਿਲੀ ਵਾਰ ਹਾਸ-ਵਿਅੰਗ ਕਵੀ ਦਰਬਾਰ ਕਰਵਾਉਣਾ ਇਕ ਵਿਲਖਣ ਕੰਮ ਸੀ ਜਿਸਦਾ ਭਰਪੂਰ ਸੁਆਗਤ ਹੋਇਆ। ਸਮਾਗਮ ਵਿਚ ਮੁਖ ਮਹਿਮਾਨ ਵਜੋਂ ਸ਼ਿਰਕਤ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਡਾ. ਜਸਪਾਲ ਸਿੰਘ, ਵਾਈਸ ਚਾਂਸਲਰ, ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ, ਪਟਿਆਲਾ ਨੇ ਇਸ ਕਵੀ ਦਰਬਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਪੂਰਨ ਤੌਰ ਤੇ ਸਫ਼ਲ ਕਰਾਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਕਿ ਪਿਛਲੇ ਵਰ੍ਹੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਮੁਲਤਾਨ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ (ਪਾਕਿਸਤਾਨ) ਵਿਚ ਹਾਸ-ਵਿਅੰਗ ਕਵੀ ਦਰਬਾਰ ਸੁਣਿਆ ਸੀ ਜਿਹੜਾ ਸ਼ਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਹੋਕੇ ਰਾਤ ਦੇ ਤਿੰਨ ਵਜੇ ਤੱਕ ਚੱਲਿਆ ਸੀ। ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ੀ ਦੀ ਗੱਲ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਪਾਕਿਸਤਾਨ ਵਿਚ ਜੀਵਤ ਪਰ ਇਧਰਲੇ ਪਾਸੇ ਖ਼ਤਮ ਹੋ ਚੁੱਕੀ ਹਾਸ-ਵਿਅੰਗ ਕਾਵਿ ਦੀ ਪਰੰਪਰਾ ਨੂੰ ਯੁਵਕ ਭਲਾਈ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਨੇ ਪੁਨਰ-ਸੁਰਜੀਤ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਪ੍ਰਸਿੱਧ ਹਾਸ-ਰਸ ਕਵੀ ਹਰੀ ਸਿੰਘ ਦਿਲਬਰ ਦੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਤੇ ਰਚਨਾ ਦੀ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਵਲੋਂ ਆਡੀਓ-ਵੀਡੀਓ ਰਿਕਾਰਡਿੰਗ ਤਿਆਰ ਕਰਵਾਉਣ ਦਾ ਐਲਾਨ ਵੀ ਕੀਤਾ। ਇਸ ਕਵੀ ਦਰਬਾਰ ਵਿਚ ਉਰਦੂ ਦੇ ਸਰਦਾਰ ਪੰਛੀ, ਟੀ. ਐਨ ਰਾਜ਼, ਤੇ ਨਾਸ਼ਿਰ ਨਕਵੀ, ਹਿੰਦੀ ਦੇ ਜਗਬੀਰ ਰਾਠੀ ਤੇ ਸੁਖਚੈਨ ਭੰਡਾਰੀ, ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਦੇ ਹਰੀ ਸਿੰਘ ਦਿਲਬਰ, ਅਮਰਜੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਅਮਰ, ਜਗਜੀਤ ਕੌਰ ਭੋਲੀ, ਦਾਨ ਸਿੰਘ ਕੋਮਲ, ਜੰਗ ਸਿੰਘ ਫੱਟੜ, ਗੁਰਭਜਨ ਗਿੱਲ, ਜਸਵੰਤ ਜ਼ਫ਼ਰ, ਸੂਫੀ ਜਗਜੀਤ ਤੇ ਸਤੀਸ਼ ਕੁਮਾਰ ਵਰਮਾ ਨੇ ਭਾਗ ਲਿਆ। ਲਗਾਤਾਰ ਤਿੰਨ ਘੰਟੇ ਚਲੇ ਇਸ ਕਵੀ ਦਰਬਾਰ ਵਿਚ ਹਾਸ ਤੇ ਵਿਅੰਗ ਦੀ ਤਿੱਖੀ ਧਾਰ ਨੇ ਖਚਾਖਚ ਭਰੇ ਕਲਾ ਭਵਨ ਵਿਚ ਮੰਨੋਰੰਜਨ ਤੇ ਸਿਆਣਪ ਦੀ ਸਾਂਝੀ ਧਾਰਾ ਵਗਾਈ। ਕੁਝ ਕਵੀ ਹਾਸ-ਰਸ ਦਾ ਸਿਖਰ ਸਨ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਹਰੀ ਸਿੰਘ ਦਿਲਬਰ, ਜੰਗ ਸਿੰਘ ਫੱਟੜ, ਦਾਨ ਸਿੰਘ ਕੋਮਲ, ਟੀ. ਐਨ. ਰਾਜ਼, ਸੁਖਚੈਨ ਭੰਡਾਰੀ, ਜਗਜੀਤ ਕੌਰ ਭੋਲੀ ਲਾਜਵਾਬ ਰਹੇ। ਦੂਜੇ ਪਾਸੇ ਵਿਅੰਗ ਦੀ ਤਿੱਖੀ ਤੇ ਸੂਖ਼ਮ ਚੋਭ ਮਾਰਨ ਵਿਚ ਸਰਦਾਰ ਪੰਛੀ, ਨਾਸ਼ਿਰ ਨਕਵੀ, ਸਤੀਸ਼ ਕੁਮਾਰ ਵਰਮਾ, ਸੂਫੀ ਜਗਜੀਤ, ਜਸਵੰਤ ਜ਼ਫ਼ਰ, ਗੁਰਭਜਨ ਗਿੱਲ, ਜਗਬੀਰ ਰਾਠੀ ਦੀ ਪੇਸ਼ਕਾਰੀ ਉਚ ਪਾਏ ਦੀ ਸੀ। ਸਾਰੇ ਕਵੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਪਤੀ-ਪਤਨੀ ਰਿਸ਼ਤੇ, ਮੁਲਕ ਦੀ ਰਾਜਨੀਤੀ, ਭਰੂਣ ਹੱਤਿਆ, ਚੌਣਾਂ ਆਦਿ ਪੱਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਕਲਮ ਦੀ ਨੋਕ ਤੇ ਲਿਆਂਦਾ। ਇਸ ਕਵੀ ਦਰਬਾਰ ਵਿਚ ਡਾ. ਕੁਲਬੀਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਢਿੱਲੋ, ਡੀਨ ਵਿਦਿਆਰੀ ਭਲਾਈ, ਡਾ. ਗੁਰਮੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਮਾਨ, ਡਾਇਰੈਕਟਰ ਲੋਕ ਸੰਪਰਕ ਤੇ ਡਾਇਰੈਕਟਰ ਮੀਡੀਆ ਸੈਟਰ, ਡਾ. ਪਰਮਵੀਰ ਸਿੰਘ, ਕੋਆਰਡੀਨੇਟਰ ਐਨ.ਐਨ.ਐਸ, ਡਾ. ਨਸੀਬ ਬਵੇਜਾ, ਇਨਚਾਰਜ਼ ਸਭਿਆਚਾਰਕ ਸਰਗਰਮੀਆਂ, ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਕੈਂਪਸ ਸਮੇਤ ਵੱਖ-ਵੱਖ ਵਿਭਾਗਾਂ ਦੇ ਮੁਖੀ, ਅਧਿਆਪਕ, ਮਹਿਮਾਨ ਤੇ ਵੱਡੀ ਗਿਣਤੀ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀ ਸ਼ਾਮਲ ਹੋਏ। ਇਸ ਕਵੀ ਦਰਬਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲੇ ਭਰਪੂਰ ਹੁੰਗਾਰੇ ਦੀ ਰੋਸ਼ਨੀ ਵਿਚ ਡਾ. ਸਤੀਸ਼ ਕੁਮਾਰ ਵਰਮਾ, ਡਾਇਰੈਕਟਰ ਯੁਵਕ ਭਲਾਈ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਨੇ ਐਲਾਨ ਕੀਤਾ ਕਿ ਸਟੇਜੀ ਕਵਿਤਾ ਤੇ ਹਾਸ-ਵਿਅੰਗ ਕਾਵਿ-ਧਾਰਾ ਨਾਲ ਜੁੜੇ ਪਿਛਲੇ ਸਾਲ ਵਾਲੇ ਤੇ ਮੌਜੂਦਾ ਕਵੀ ਦਰਬਾਰ ਉਪਰੰਤ ਅਗਲੇ ਵਰ੍ਹੇ ਤਰਾਹ-ਮਿਸਰਾ ਵਾਲਾ ਕਵੀ ਦਰਬਾਰ ਕਰਵਾਇਆ ਜਾਵੇਗਾ ਤਾਂਕਿ ਵਿਰਸੇ ਵਿਚ ਪਈ ਉਸ ਕਾਵਿ ਧਾਰਾ ਨੂੰ ਵੀ ਪੁਨਰ-ਸੁਰਜੀਤ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾ ਸਕੇ।

National Conf. on "Recent Advances and Future Trends in IT" begins

Patiala, April 9- The third National Conference on “Recent Advances and Future Trends in Information Technology”, organised by the Punjabi University’ Department of Computer Science  with the objective to set up a forum to exchange ideas and  bring together researchers in the academic institutions and R and D laboratories working in the challanging areas  of Natural Language Processing, Image Processing and Computer Networks, got underway at the Science Auditorium here today.

            Dr B.B. Chaudhuri, internationally renowned computer scientist from ISI, Kolkata traced the history of the development of written script, right from the Roman and Egyptian Civilizations. He said that the computer recognition of written letter known as OCR was of utmost importance in the modern world. He also highlighted the problem being faced by the Computer professionals and discussed the recent developments in this field.

Dr Niyam Bhushan, a leading computer graphics expert and  well known technology columinst and editor, discussed the social implications of advancements in computers. In his inaugural address, he observed that information technology sector was facing an unprecedented crisis in India and abroad due to isolation of this sector from the other sectors coupled with self-imposed superiority of IT professionals. He suggested that social and collective wisdom should be used to bring the IT sector out from the present crisis.

            Dr Jaspal Singh, Vice- Chancellor in his presidential address highlighted the achievements of Computer Science Department extolled the role played by the Computer Science Department for developing Punjabi Language based softwares for online teaching of the language, Punjabi Search Engine and the software for transliteration of Gurmukhi script into Shahmukhi script and vice-versa. He disclosed that during his visit to Pakistan this achievement of the University was highly lauded by the Pakistani Punjabi scholars.

            Dr Gurpreet Lehal, HoD of Computer Science, informed that 145 papers were received and after a strict review 33 were chosen for presentation in the technical sessions. Punjabi University’s Computer Science Department, he said, was the only Department in North India to be covered under the Special Assistance Programme of UGC and FIST (level-1) programme of DST. The department faculty has received more than 1.75 crores of research grants from various national and international agencies.
