ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਦੇ ਭਾਸ਼ਾ ਵਿਗਿਆਨ ਅਤੇ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਕੋਸ਼ਕਾਰੀ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਵਲੋਂ ਉਰਦੂ ਅਧਿਆਪਨ ਅਤੇ ਖੋਜ ਕੇਂਦਰ (ਯੂ.ਟੀ.ਆਰ.ਸੀ.) ਸੋਲਨ, ਡੋਗਰੀ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਜੰਮੂ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਅਤੇ ਉਤਰੀ ਖੇਤਰ ਭਾਸ਼ਾ ਕੇਂਦਰ ਦੇ ਸਹਿਯੋਗ ਨਾਲ 'ਬਹੁਭਾਸ਼ਾਈ ਸ਼ਬਦਾਵਲੀ' ਵਿਸ਼ੇ 'ਤੇ ਪੰਜ-ਰੋਜ਼ਾ ਵਰਕਸ਼ਾਪ ਅੱਜ ਇਥੇ ਸੰਪੰਨ ਹੋ ਗਈ। ਇਸ ਵਰਕਸ਼ਾਪ ਵਿੱਚ ਜੰਮੂ-ਕਸ਼ਮੀਰ, ਉਤਰ ਪ੍ਰਦੇਸ਼, ਹਿਮਾਚਲ ਪ੍ਰਦੇਸ਼ ਅਤੇ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਤੋਂ 20 ਤੋਂ ਵੱਧ ਵਿਦਵਾਨ ਸ਼ਾਮਲ ਹੋਏ। ਇਸ ਵਰਕਸ਼ਾਪ ਦਾ ਉਦੇਸ਼ ਉਰਦੂ, ਕਸ਼ਮੀਰੀ, ਪੰਜਾਬੀ, ਡੋਗਰੀ, ਅੰਗਰੇਜ਼ੀ ਅਤੇ ਹਿੰਦੀ ਦਾ ਇਕ ਅਜਿਹਾ ਸਾਂਝਾ ਕੋਸ਼ ਤਿਆਰ ਕਰਨਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਭਾਸ਼ਾਵਾਂ ਦੀ ਸਮਾਂਤਰ ਸ਼ਬਦਾਵਲੀ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਭਾਸ਼ਾਵਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਸਬੰਧਤ ਲਿਪੀਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਅਤੇ ਅੰਤਰ-ਰਾਸ਼ਟਰੀ ਧੁਨੀ ਲਿਪੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਗਈ ਹੋਵੇ। ਇਹ ਕੋਸ਼ ਭਾਸ਼ਾ ਸਿਖਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਲਈ ਵਿਸ਼ੇਸ਼ ਤੌਰ 'ਤੇ ਉਪਯੋਗੀ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ ਅਤੇ ਨਾਲ ਦੀ ਨਾਲ ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਭਾਸ਼ਾਵਾਂ ਦਾ ਤੁਲਨਾਤਮਕ ਅਧਿਐਨ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਖੋਜੀ ਵੀ ਇਸ ਤੋਂ ਭਰਪੂਰ ਲਾਭ ਉਠਾ ਸਕਣਗੇ। ਇਸ ਕੋਸ਼ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਜੈਕਟ ਕੋਆਰਡੀਨੇਟਰ ਡਾ. ਜੋਗ ਰਾਜ, ਪ੍ਰਿੰਸੀਪਲ, ਯੂ.ਟੀ.ਆਰ.ਸੀ., ਸੋਲਨ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਹੋਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਦਵਾਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਇਲਾਵਾ ਪ੍ਰੋ. ਜੋਗਾ ਸਿੰਘ, ਪ੍ਰੋ. ਸ਼ਿਵਦੇਵ ਮਿਨਹਾਸ, ਡਾ. ਸਰਿਤਾ ਖਜੂਰੀਆ, ਸ਼੍ਰੀ ਜਗਦੀਸ਼ ਚੰਦ ਸ਼ਰਮਾ, ਸਾਬਕਾ ਸਕੱਤਰ, ਅਕਾਦਮੀ ਆਫ ਲੈਂਗੂਏਜ, ਆਰਟ ਐਂਡ ਕਲਚਰ, ਹਿਮਾਚਲ ਪ੍ਰਦੇਸ਼, ਸ਼੍ਰੀ ਗੁਰਬਖਸ਼ ਸਿੰਘ ਆਦਿ ਇਸ ਪ੍ਰਾਜੈਕਟ ਨਾਲ ਸਬੰਧਤ ਹਨ।

'ਕੰਪਿਊਟਰ ਐਜੂਕੇਸ਼ਨ ਨਾ ਸਿਰਫ ਅਕਾਦਮਿਕ ਖੇਤਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਜਰੂਰੀ ਹੈ ਬਲਕਿ ਇਹ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਸਮਾਜ ਦੇ ਵੱਖ-ਵੱਖ ਖੇਤਰਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਆਪਣਾ ਯੋਗਦਾਨ ਪਾ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ।' ਇਸ ਗੱਲ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਗਟਾਵਾ ਅੱਜ ਇਥੇ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਦੇ ਫਿਜ਼ਿਕਸ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਵਿੱਚ ਸੰਪੰਨ ਹੋਈ 'ਕੰਪਿਊਟਰ ਲੈਬਾਰਟਰੀ ਟ੍ਰੇਨਿੰਗ ਇੰਨ ਫਿਜ਼ਿਕਸ' ਵਿਸ਼ੇ ਤੇ ਸੰਪੰਨ ਹੋਈ ਵਰਕਸ਼ਾਪ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਧਾਨਗੀ ਕਰਦੇ ਹੋਏ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਦੇ ਡੀਨ ਕਾਲਜਿਜ਼ ਡਾ. ਮਨਜੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੇ ਕੀਤਾ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਵਰਕਸ਼ਾਪਾਂ ਬਹੁਤ ਜਰੂਰੀ ਹਨ ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਇਸ ਨਾਲ ਨਾ ਕੇਵਲ ਯੋਗ ਅਧਿਆਪਕ ਵਧੀਆ ਪ੍ਰਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ ਬਲਕਿ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀ ਵੀ ਨਵੀਆਂ ਯੋਜਨਾਵਾਂ ਉਲੀਕਦੇ ਹਨ। ਇਸ ਵਰਕਸ਼ਾਪ ਦੈ ਕੋਆਰਡੀਨੇਟਰ ਪ੍ਰੋ. ਆਰ.ਸੀ. ਸ਼ਰਮਾ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਯੂ.ਜੀ.ਸੀ. ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰੇਰਨਾ ਨਾਲ ਅੰਡਰ-ਗਰੈਜੂਏਟ ਅਤੇ ਪ੍ਰੋਸਟ-ਗਰੈਜੂਏਟ ਪੱਧਰ ਦੇ ਨਵੇਂ ਸਿਲੇਬਸ ਦੀਆਂ ਸਿਫਾਰਸ਼ਾਂ ਤੇ ਹੀ ਇਹ ਵਰਕਸ਼ਾਪ ਲਗਾਈ ਗਈ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਲਈ ਫਿਜ਼ਿਕਸ ਕੋਰਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਕੰਪਿਊਟਰ ਆਧਾਰਿਤ ਲੈਬਾਰਟਰੀਆਂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫਾਰਸ਼ ਕੀਤੀ ਗਈ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਵਰਕਸ਼ਾਪ ਦਾ ਮੁੱਖ ਉਦੇਸ਼ ਫਿਜ਼ਿਕਸ ਦੇ ਅਧਿਆਪਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਟਰੇਨਿੰਗ ਦੇਣਾ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਜੋ ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਕਾਲਜਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਕੋਰਸ ਕਰਵਾਉਣ। ਇਸ ਵਰਕਸ਼ਾਪ ਨੂੰ ਹੋਰਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਇਲਾਵਾ ਸ਼੍ਰੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਤੇਗ ਬਹਾਦਰ ਨੈਸ਼ਨਲ ਇੰਟੈਗਰੇਸ਼ਨ ਚੇਅਰ ਦੇ ਮੁਖੀ ਡਾ. ਬੀ.ਐਸ. ਮਾਨ ਅਤੇ ਪ੍ਰੋ. ਐਚ.ਐਸ. ਭੱਟੀ ਨੇ ਵੀ ਸੰਬੋਧਨ ਕੀਤਾ।
 

Punjabi University convocation

Patiala, Dec 29- "Conventional ideas and thought patters need to be reinvented and rediscovered and theoretical wisdom transformed into practice to make them utilitarian, lest they hang in academic vacuum. Given the crucial juncture, scholars and academicians should get down to the real task right away, even as there was no template and readymade roadmaps to achieve the higher goals".

            This was stated by Gen. (Retd.) S.F. Rodrigues, Governor, Punjab and Chancellor of Punjabi University, while presiding over the 32ndconvocation of Punjabi University in the Guru Tegh Bahadur Hall here today. He urged the teachers to "give us good citizens, who feel concerned for the welfare of the society, are dutiful and have a sense of responsibility towards the nation. An attitude of morality and education system embedded with elements of higher value system needs to be given priority to sustain our hoary cultural heritage, he said. He largely appreciated the big role played by the University Vice-Chancellor, Dr Jaspal Singh in spearheading phenomenal progress that the University has made during his tenure.

            In his convocation address entitled, "Road to Human Development – Some Insights into Emerging Challenges", the Vice-Chairman of the University Grants Commission, Dr Mool Chand Sharma said that universities and institutions of higher education have a special role to play in the fight against the prevailing menace of financial meltdown, which has been intensified by globalization, aimed at undoing human concerns, even as it was based on flawed economic ideology. Terrorism, global warming and climate change were the other menaces playing a tormenting role in societal destruction. Universities, he said, were the laboratories where minds are made, where attitudes are inculcated and where cultures are shaped to evolve a mindset and a scientific kind of patriotism as well as global outlook for fighting the menace.  A closer look would reveal that after 9/11, the US administration heavily relied in evolving a response and future strategy for preventing such happenings on the research studies that were largely conducted in the campuses.

Quoting Charles Dickens, he said that "We are living in times that are both extraordinary and difficult in the sense that never before the world has been so prosperous, never before have so many people lived such long and healthy lives, never before have we witnessed such mind-boggling technological advancements and never before have had we reached, on average, such level of education.  And yet, in absolute numbers, never before have so many people lived in such poverty, never before have so many died from preventable diseases, never before the planet has been so threatened, never before have so many needed education.  Dr Sharma advised the students to developing strong courage to dream high and work hard to translate them into reality, build self-confidence, accommodating differences of opinion and sustain a sense of gratitude towards those who have done some good in their lives at some point of time.

 Acknowledging the qualitative and phenomenal research and scholastic output of the Punjabi University, he lauded partnerships the entire national and many of the international organizations have established it.  The growing number of overseas research collaborations, increasing number of research consultancies and extension programmes are testimony to the dedication, commitment and seriousness with which the university has pursued its academic agenda and vision of excellence, Dr Sharma said.  It may not be out of place to say that this all would not have been possible but for the towering and scholarly personality of Dr. Jaspal Singh and his continued and tireless efforts to ensure that every stakeholder develops a sense of belongingness and owning of universities' agenda.
 

While thanking the guests, Dr Jaspal Singh awarded degrees and medals to the M.Phil., graduate and undergraduate students. The Governor conferred degrees of honoris causa to Dr Amrik Singh, a former Vice-Chancellor of the University and Dr Kirpal Singh, a noted historian, besides awarding  Ph.D. degress and Chancellor's medals to the students who had excelled in various fields of activity.

397 students to get degrees and medals during Pbi varsity convocation

Patiala, Dec 28- A total of 397 degrees and medals will be awarded during the 32nd convocation of Punjabi University, Patiala to be held in the Guru Tegh Bahadur hall tomorrow. It includes 200 degrees, including 198 that of Ph.D. and two that of M.Phil. The highest number of Ph.D. degrees will be awarded in the Faculty of Social Sciences (53), to be followed by Faculty of Languages (49), Faculty of Physical Sciences and Faculty of Business Studies (21 each), Faculty of Life Sciences (20), Faculty of Education and Information Science (16), Faculty of Medicine (9), Faculty of Arts & Culture (4), Faculty of Engineering & Technology (3) and Faculty of Law (2). The two M.Phil. degrees will go to the students in the Faculty of Languages.

            A total of 157 medals will be awarded to the students of professional and postgraduate classes, who have topped in their examinations in the ten faculties, while this honour goes to 38 students of graduate and undergraduate classes. Two students will be crowned with Chancellor's medal.

            Dr Amrik Singh, a renowned scholar and litterateur and a former Vice-Chancellor of the University and a noted historian, Dr Kirpal Singh will be conferred the degrees of honoris causa for significant contribution in their respective areas.

            Governor, Punjab and Chancellor of the University, Gen. (Retd.) S.F. Rodrigues will preside over the convocation, while Mr Charanjit Singh Atwal, Deputy Speaker of Lok Sabha and Dr Upinderjit Kaur, Minister of Higher Education, Punjab, will be the chief guest and guest of honour, respectively. Prof Mool Chand Sharma, Vice-Chairman of the University Grants Commission, will present the convocation address.

ਲਈ ਹੁਣ ਤੱਕ ਸਨਮਾਨਿਤ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ। ਉਹ ਹੁਣ ਤੱਕ ਭਾਰਤ ਅਤ ਕਈ ਹੋਰਨਾਂ ਦਸ਼ਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ 100 ਤੋਂ ਵੱਧ ਖੋਜ ਪੱਤਰ ਪੜਖ਼ ਚੁੱਕ ਹਨ। ਉਨਖ਼ਾਂ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਨ ਸਿੱਖ ਇਤਿਹਾਸ ਤ ਕੰਮ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ 1964 ਵਿੱਚ 6 ਮਹੀਨ ਲਈ ਇੰਗਲੈਂਡ ਭਜਿਆ। ਦੂਜੀ ਵਾਰ ਫਿਰ ਉਨਖ਼ਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਇੰਡੀਅਨ ਕਾਉਂਸਲ ਫਾਰ ਹਿਸਟਾਰੀਕਲ ਰਿਸਰਚ ਐੰਡ ਬ੍ਰਿਟਿਸ਼ ਕਾਉਂਸਲ ਨ ਤਿੰਨ ਮਹੀਨ ਲਈ ਇੰਗਲੈਂਡ ਵਿਖ ਕੰਮ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਭਜਿਆ। ਤੀਜੀ ਵਾਰ ਉਹ ਖੁਦ 1998 ਵਿੱਚ ਦੋ ਮਹੀਨ ਲਈ ਆਪਣੀ ਕਿਤਾਬ 'ਸਿੱਖ ਐੰਡ ਟਰਾਂਸਫਰ ਆਫ ਪਾਵਰ' ਲਈ ਤੱਥ ਇਕੱਠ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਦੋ ਮਹੀਨ ਲਈ ਇੰਗਲੈਂਡ ਗੲ।
ਡਾ. ਕਿਰਪਾਲ ਸਿੰਘ ਦੀਆਂ ਹੁਣ ਤੱਕ ਸਿੱਖ ਇਤਿਹਾਸ, ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਸੱਭਿਆਚਾਰ ਅਤ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਦੀ ਵੰਡ ਬਾਰ ਅੰਗਰਜੀ ਵਿੱਚ 14 ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼ਨਾਵਾਂ ਛਪ ਚੁੱਕੀਆਂ ਹਨ। ਇਸ ਤੋਂ ਇਲਾਵਾ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਉਨਖ਼ਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਹੁਣ ਤੱਕ 23 ਕਿਤਾਬਾਂ ਛਪ ਚੁੱਕੀਆਂ ਹਨ।

ਇਸ ਤੋਂ ਇਲਾਵਾ ਡਾ. ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲ ਸਿੰਘ ਸ਼ੋਮਣੀ ਗੁਰਦੁਆਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਬੰਧਕ ਕਮਟੀ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਸਰ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਮੰਜੂਰ ਕੀਤੀਆਂ ਤਿੰਨ ਪੁਸ਼ਤਕਾਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਅੰਗਦ ਸਾਹਿਬ, ਗੁਰੂ ਅਮਰਦਾਸ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਅਤ ਗੁਰੂ ਰਾਮਦਾਸ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਲਿਖੀਆਂ ਹਨ। ਇਹ ਕਿਤਾਬਾਂ ਸ਼ੋਮਣੀ ਕਮਟੀ ਦ ਧਰਮ ਪ੍ਰਚਾਰ ਕਮਟੀ ਦ ਦਫਤਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਾਂਭੀਆਂ ਹੋਈਆਂ ਹਨ ਜਿੰਨਖ਼ਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਵਾਰੋ ਪਾਰੀ ਛਾਪਿਆ ਜਾਵਗਾ।

Patiala, 26 December: All Teaching, Non teaching & Research Departments of Punjabi University will remain open on 28th December in lieu of this all departments of Punjabi university campus will remain closed on 2nd January. ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ, ਪਟਿਆਲਾ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਸਾਬਕਾ ਵਾਈਸ-ਚਾਂਸਲਰ ਤੇ ਉੱਘੇ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਸ਼ਾਸਤਰੀ ਡਾ. ਅਮਰੀਕ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੂੰ ਵੱਖ ਵੱਖ ਅਹੁਦਿਆਂ ਤੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹੋਏ ਅਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਖੇਤਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਮਹਾਨ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤੀ ਦੇ ਬਦਲੇ ਡੀ.ਲਿਟ. ਦੀ ਡਿਗਰੀ ਦੇਣ ਦਾ ਫੈਸਲਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ। ਇਹ ਫੈਸਲਾ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਦੇ ਵਾਈਸ-ਚਾਂਸਲਰ ਡਾ. ਜਸਪਾਲ ਸਿੰਘ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਧਾਨਗੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੋਈ ਸਿੰਡੀਕੇਟ ਦੀ ਮੀਟਿੰਗ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਰਬ ਸੰਮਤੀ ਨਾਲ ਲਿਆ ਗਿਆ। ਇਹ ਡਿਗਰੀ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ 29 ਦਸੰਬਰ ਨੂੰ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ, ਪਟਿਆਲਾ ਵਲੋਂ ਕਰਵਾਈ ਜਾ ਰਹੀ ਕਨਵੋਕੇਸ਼ਨ ਮੌਕੇ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਜਾਵੇਗੀ।

ਪ੍ਰੋ. ਅਮਰੀਕ ਸਿੰਘ (ਜਨਮ 20 ਸਤੰਬਰ, 1920, ਪੰਜਾਬ) ਇੱਕ ਪ੍ਰਸਿੱਧ ਵਿਦਵਾਨ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਇਹ ਅਦੁੱਤੀ ਮਨੁੱਖੀ ਕਦਰਾਂ ਕੀਮਤਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਾਲਕ ਹਨ। ਇਹ ਇੱਕ ਚੰਗੇ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀ, ਸੱਚੇ ਅਧਿਆਪਕ, ਕੁਸ਼ਲ ਪ੍ਰਬੰਧਕ, ਨੀਤੀ ਘਾੜੇ, ਦ੍ਰਿੜ ਸੰਕਲਪੀ ਅਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਸਿੱਧ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਸ਼ਾਸਤਰੀ ਹਨ।

ਪ੍ਰੋ. ਅਮਰੀਕ ਸਿੰਘ ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾ ਚੰਗੇ ਵਿਚਾਰਾਂ ਲਈ ਸਮਰਪਿਤ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ। ਉਹ ਨਾ ਕੇਵਲ ਭਾਰਤੀ ਸਮਾਜ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੋ ਰਹੇ ਅਤਿਆਚਾਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਵਿਰੁੱਧ ਲਿਖਦੇ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ, ਬਲਕਿ ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਿਰੁੱਧ ਲੜਾਈ ਵਿੱਚ ਵੀ ਇੱਕ ਕਾਰਜਕਰਤਾ ਵਜੋਂ ਹਿੱਸਾ ਲੈਂਂਦੇ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਸੰਘਰਸ਼ ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾ ਹੀ ਕਦਰਾਂ ਕੀਮਤਾਂ ਤੇ ਆਧਾਰਿਤ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ। ਮਨੁੱਖੀ ਹੱਕਾਂ ਦੀ ਰਾਖੀ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਪਹਿਲ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ। ਕੌਮੀ ਅਤੇ ਕੌਮਾਂਤਰੀ ਅਖਬਾਰਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼ਿਤ ਹੋਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਲੇਖਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਮਨੁੱਖੀ ਭਾਵਨਾਵਾਂ ਦੀ ਝਲਕ ਸਾਫ ਦਿਖਾਈ ਦਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ।

ਅੰਗਰੇਜੀ ਸਾਹਿਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਪੋਸਟ ਗ੍ਰੈਜੂਏਸ਼ਨ ਕਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਲੰਡਨ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਤੋਂ ਅੰਗਰੇਜੀ ਵਿਸ਼ੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਪੀ-ਐਚ.ਡੀ. ਕੀਤੀ। ਆਪਣੀ ਰਸਮੀ ਪੜ੍ਹਾਈ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਵੀ ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾ ਜਾਣਕਾਰੀ ਗ੍ਰਹਿਣ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਤਤਪਰ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਬਹੁਪੱਖੀ ਕਲਾ ਦੀ ਝਲਕ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਸਾਹਿਤਕ ਰਚਨਾਵਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਪੈਂਦੀ ਹੈ। ਉਹ ਦੇਸ਼ ਦੇ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਪ੍ਰਮੁੱਖ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਸ਼ਾਸਤਰੀਆਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਇੱਕ ਹਨ।

ਇੱਕ ਅਧਿਆਪਕ ਵਜੋਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਸਾਰਾ ਕੈਰੀਅਰ ਸਫਲਤਾਪੂਰਵਕ ਪੂਰਾ ਕੀਤਾ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਅਧਿਆਪਨ ਕਿੱਤਾ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ, ਲਾਹੌਰ ਤੋਂ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕੀਤਾ। ਇਸ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ 4 ਸਾਲ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ, ਚੰਡੀਗੜ੍ਹ, 12 ਸਾਲ ਦਿੱਲੀ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਵਿੱਚ, 2 ਸਾਲ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਅਧਿਆਪਕ ਵਜੋਂ ਕੰਮ ਕੀਤਾ। ਇਸ ਤੋਂ ਇਲਾਵਾ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਇੱਕ ਸਾਲ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਆਫ ਵਿਸਕਾਨਸਿਨ, ਅਮਰੀਕਾ ਵਿਖੇ ਵਿਜ਼ਟਿੰਗ ਪ੍ਰੋਫੈਸਰ ਵਜੋਂ ਪੜ੍ਹਾਇਆ। ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਸਾਲਾਂ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਪ੍ਰੋ. ਅਮਰੀਕ ਸਿੰਘ ਭਾਰਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਉਚੇਰੀ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਦੇ ਨਿਡਰ ਅਲੋਚਕ ਵਜੋਂ ਉਭਰੇ। ਇੰਡੀਅਨ ਐਸੋਸੀਏਸ਼ਨ ਆਫ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਦੇ ਸਕੱਤਰ ਵਜੋਂ 17 ਸਾਲ, ਸਾਊਥ ਦਿੱਲੀ ਕੈਂਪਸ ਦੇ ਡਾਇਰੈਕਟਰ ਵਜੋਂ 2 ਸਾਲ ਅਤੇ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਦੇ ਵਾਈਸ-ਚਾਂਸਲਰ ਵਜੋਂ 2 ਸਾਲ ਕਾਰਜ ਕਰਕੇ ਇੱਕ ਚੰਗੇ ਪ੍ਰਸ਼ਾਸਨਿਕ ਅਧਿਕਾਰੀ ਵਜੋਂ ਛਾਪ ਛੱਡੀ। ਆਪਣੇ ਪ੍ਰਸ਼ਾਸਨਿਕ ਕਾਰਜਾਂ ਕਾਰਨ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਅਕਾਦਮਿਕ ਖੇਤਰ ਅਤੇ ਦੇਸ਼ ਦੇ ਵਿਦਿਅਕ ਅਦਾਰਿਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਇੱਕ ਕੁਸ਼ਲ ਪ੍ਰਸ਼ਾਸਨਿਕ ਅਧਿਕਾਰੀ ਵਜੋਂ ਪਛਾਣ ਮਿਲੀ।

ਪ੍ਰੋ. ਅਮਰੀਕ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੇ ਮਨੁੱਖੀ ਵਸੀਲਿਆਂ ਬਾਰੇ ਮੰਤਰਾਲੇ ਨਾਲ ਸਲਾਹਕਾਰ ਵਜੋਂ ਕੰਮ ਕੀਤਾ, ਜਿਸਦੇ ਤਹਿਤ 1985-86 ਵਿੱਚ ਰਾਸ਼ਟਰੀ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਪਾਲਸੀ ਬਣਾਉਣ, 1986-87 ਸਿਊਲ ਏਸ਼ੀਅਨ ਖੇਡਾਂ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਭਾਰਤੀ ਪ੍ਰਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਬਾਰੇ ਰਿਪੋਰਟ ਤਿਆਰ ਕਰਨ, 1991-92 ਵਿੱਚ ਗੈਰ-ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਮੁਲਾਜਮਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਟ੍ਰੇਨਿੰਗ ਦੇਣ ਬਾਰੇ ਰਿਪੋਰਟ ਕਰਨ ਅਤੇ 1997-98 ਵਿੱਚ ਸਕੂਲ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਬੋਰਡਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਰੀਮੌਡਲ ਕਰਨ ਬਾਰੇ ਮਾਹਿਰ ਵਜੋਂ ਕੰਮ ਕੀਤਾ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ 1999 ਵਿੱਚ ਯੂ.ਜੀ.ਸੀ. ਐਕਟ 1956 ਵਿੱਚ ਬਦਲਾਅ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਬਣਾਈ ਕਮੇਟੀ ਦੇ ਮੁਖੀ ਦੀ ਵੀ ਜਿੰਮੇਵਾਰੀ ਸੌਂਪੀ। ਡਾ. ਸਿੰਘ ਨੇ 1997-98 ਵਿੱਚ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਲਈ ਵੋਕੇਸ਼ਨਲ ਸਕੂਲ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਬਾਰੇ ਵੀ ਅਹਿਮ ਰਿਪੋਰਟ ਤਿਆਰ ਕੀਤੀ। 1995-97 ਦੌਰਾਨ ਆਂਧਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਦੇਸ਼ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਵਲੋਂ ਆਂਧਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਦੇਸ਼ ਦੀਆਂ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀਆਂ ਦਾ ਕੰਮਕਾਜ ਅਤੇ ਪ੍ਰੋਗਰਾਮ ਬਾਰੇ ਬਣਾਈ ਕਮੇਟੀ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਧਾਨਗੀ ਕੀਤੀ।

ਪ੍ਰੋ. ਅਮਰੀਕ ਸਿੰਘ ਦੀਆਂ ਅਕਾਦਮਿਕ ਖੇਤਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਕਈ ਵਿਲੱਖਣ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤੀਆਂ ਹਨ। ਉਹ ਪੜ੍ਹਣ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਨਾਲ ਵੱਖ ਵੱਖ ਵਿਸ਼ਿਆਂ ਬਾਰੇ ਕਿਤਾਬਾਂ ਵੀ ਲਿਖਦੇ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ। ਂਭਙ ੦ਵੱਚ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ 'The Higher Learning in India', 1976 ftZu 'The Management of Examinations', 1980 ftZu 'University and College Finances', 1983 ftZu 'Asking for Trouble What it Means to be a Vice-Chancellor Today', 1984 ftZu 'Commonsense About Examinations', 1985 ftZu 'Redeeming Higher Education : 1988 ftZu Essays in Educational Policy', 1990 ftZu 'Higher Education in India: The Social Context', 'Higher Education in India: The International Context', 'On being a Teacher', 1995 ftZu The Craft of Teaching and The Trap Called Teaching', ਬਾਰੇ ਲਿੱਖਿਆ। ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਇਲਾਵਾ 100 ਖੋਜ ਪੱਤਰ ਅਤੇ 1000 ਅਖਬਾਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਆਰਟੀਕਲ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਖਾਤੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ। ਉਨ੍ਰਾਂ ਅੱਧੀ ਦਰਜਨ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਨਾਟਕ ਵੀ ਲਿਖੇ ਹਨ।

ਪ੍ਰੋ. ਅਮਰੀਕ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੇ ਵਿਦੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਵੀ ਦੌਰੇ ਕਰਕੇ ਕਈ ਵੱਡੇ ਮਾਣ ਹਾਸਲ ਕੀਤੇ ਹਨ। ਲੈਟਿਨ ਅਮਰੀਕਾ ਅਤੇ ਚੀਨ ਨੂੰ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਲਗਭਗ ਸਾਰੀ ਦੁਨੀਆਂ ਦਾ ਦੌਰਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੇ। ਉਹ ਲੰਡਨ ਦੇ ਮਾਈਰਵਾ ਦੇ ਐਡਵਾਈਜ਼ਰੀ ਬੋਰਡ ਆਫ ਐਡੀਟਰਜ਼ ਦੇ ਮੈਂਬਰ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ 1962 ਤੋਂ 1967 ਤੱਕ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਐਜੂਕੇਸ਼ਨ ਦੇ ਸੰਪਾਦਕ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ। 1982 ਵਿੱਚ ਐਸੋਸੀਏਸ਼ਨ ਆਫ ਕਾਮਨਵੈਲਥ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਤੋਂ ਰਿਟਾਇਰ ਹੋਣ ਸਮੇਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਟਾਮ ਸਿਮਨਜ਼ ਐਵਾਰਡ ਨਾਲ ਐਸੋਸੀਏਸ਼ਨ ਆਫ ਇੰਡੀਅਨ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀਜ਼ ਵਲੋਂ ਸਨਮਾਨਿਤ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ। ਉਹ ਚਾਰ ਸਾਲ ਲਈ ਭਾਰਤੀ ਕ੍ਰਿਕਟ ਕੰਟਰੋਲ ਬੋਰਡ ਦੇ ਉਪ-ਪ੍ਰਧਾਨ ਰਹੇ। ਉਹ ਦਹਾਕੇ ਭਰ ਲਈ ਓਅਜਡਕਗਤਜਵਖ ਂਦਚ;ਵ ਥਦਚਫ਼ਵਜਰਅ ਬਾਰੇ ਅੰਤਰ-ਰਾਸ਼ਟਰੀ ਕਾਂਗਰਸ ਦੇ ਚੇਅਰਮੈਨ ਰਹੇ ਅਤੇ ਪੰਜ ਸਾਲ ਲਈ ਉਹ ਂਅਦਜ਼ਅ ਂਦਚ;ਵ ਥਦਚਫ਼ਵਜਰਅ ਂਤਤਰਫਜ਼ਵਜਰਅ ਦੇ ਉਪ-ਪ੍ਰਧਾਨ ਰਹੇ।

ਇਹ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤੀਆਂ ਸਿੱਧ ਕਰਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ ਕਿ ਪ੍ਰੋ. ਅਮਰੀਕ ਸਿੰਘ ਜੀ ਮਹਾਨ ਅਤੇ ਵਿਲੱਖਣ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਸ਼ਾਸਤਰੀ ਹਨ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਲੋਂ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਦੇ ਖੇਤਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਪਾਏ ਅਹਿਮ ਯੋਗਦਾਨ ਦੀ ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾ ਪ੍ਰਸ਼ੰਸਾ ਕੀਤੀ ਜਾਵੇਗੀ ਅਤੇ ਮਾਨਤਾ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਜਾਵੇਗੀ।


ਪਟਿਆਲਾ, 26 ਦਸੰਬਰ- ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਦੇ ਵਾਈਸ-ਚਾਂਸਲਰ ਡਾ. ਜਸਪਾਲ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੇ ਆਦੇਸ਼ ਕੀਤੇ ਹਨ ਕਿ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਵਿਖੇ 29 ਦਸੰਬਰ ਨੂੰ ਹੋ ਰਹੀ 32ਵੀਂ ਕਨਵੋਕੇਸ਼ਨ ਦੀਆਂ ਤਿਆਰੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਸਬੰਧ ਵਿੱਚ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਕੈਂਪਸ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਅਧਿਆਪਨ, ਖੋਜ ਅਤੇ ਗੈਰ-ਅਧਿਆਪਨ ਵਿਭਾਗਾਂ ਦੇ ਦਫਤਰ 28 ਦਸੰਬਰ, ਦਿਨ ਐਤਵਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਖੁੱਲੇ ਰਹਿਣਗੇ। ਇਸ ਦੇ ਬਦਲੇ 2 ਜਨਵਰੀ, ਦਿਨ ਸ਼ੁੱਕਰਵਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਿਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਛੁੱਟੀ ਹੋਵੇਗੀ।

 Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur National Integration Chair based at Punjabi University organised the First Shaheed Nanak Singh Memorial Lecture on December 24, 2008 at the Guru Tegh Bahadur Hall of the University.

While delivering the first ‘Shaheed Nanak Singh Memorial Lecture’, Dr HK Manmohan Singh, emeritus professor and former Vice-Chancellor of Punjabi University, said  “When established cultures and civilizations undergo a radical change, they generate debris of conflicts, tensions and problems that can be grasped and overcome only with the help of the teachings of great spiritual masters.” Dr. Singh said all these values were upheld by Sardar Nanak Singh, who made a phenomenal sacrifice to promote religious tolerance and human freedom, even as he was done to death in the pre-partition carnage while trying to save some students of a school, who had organised a peace march against the division of the country. A science and a law graduate, Nanak Singh could have continued his career with the British police, but his upbringing as a devout made him revolt against his submission to the wrongs being perpetrated, first by the rulers and then by the  fundamentalists who wanted to divide the country on the basis of religion.
 
In his presidential address, Vice-Chancellor Dr Jaspal Singh said that concepts of a pluralistic and multi-ethnic society were essential features of Sikh religion for which Sardar Nanak Singh stood for as an ideologue. The VC said no nation in the world could afford to see India getting disintegrated as all values of religious harmony, which were the quintessence of peace in the world, would perish along with it. Even the purity of socio-economic growth and good governance could not be perceived without following the well laid out principles in the Sikh scriptures, Dr Jaspal Singh said. The social and religious conflicts could easily be avoided if the precepts of true religions are judiciously followed, he added. The Vice-Chancellor presented mementoes to the family members of Sardar Nanak Singh as a token of respect.
 
Dr Manjit Singh, Dean Colleges of the University, while describing Sardar Nanak Singh as a great visionary, said such sacrifices acted as source of inspiration for others to be emulated. Dr Kulbir Singh Dhillon, Dean Students  and Dr Baltej Maan, Chair Professor of the GTB National Integration Chair also spoke on the occasion.

Patiala, Dec 18- A three-week "Language and Culture Immersion Programme for Singapore Students", organised by the Punjabi University's Department of Linguistics and Lexicography ended here today. The programme is a regular feature under an agreement between the Singapore Khalsa Association and Punjabi University in which twenty students and two teachers from Singapore do take part every year.

            Presiding over the valedictory function, Dr Jaspal Singh, Vice-Chancellor of Punjabi University said that the programme is aimed at training Singapore students in the fields of Punjabi language, religion, history, folk games and folk art forms.   He assured the team leader of the Singapore Khalsa Association, Mr Harbans Singh to forge stronger ties and cooperation between the two institutions. Programme coordinator, Dr Joga Singh highlighted the activities and importance of the 'immersion programme'.

Pbi Uni. Syndicate Meeting

Patiala, Dec 24- The Punjabi University syndicate at its meeting, held underthe chairmanship of Dr Jaspal Singh, Vice-Chancellor, here today unanimously approved to confer the degree of honoris causa (D.Litt.) to a renowned educationist, litterateur and a former Vice-Chancellor of the University, Dr Amrik Singh and a noted historian, Dr Kirpal Singh for holding eminent positions and attainments in their respective fields.

The meeting also gave its nod to Rs 23-crore projects to be completed at the University's Campus at Talwandi Sabo, which includes the construction of buildings for the departments of Biotechnology, Pharmaceutical and Drug
Research, Computer Centre, IT Block, Library and a Religio-Cultural Centre. A grant of Rs 16.41 lakhs was also approved for the creation of a fully-equipped Media Studio in the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, paving way for the raising a state-of-the-art Media Centrein near future.  The Gurmat Sangeet Department was allocated a recurring grant of Rs one lakh for holding Rababai Bhai Mardana Shastri Sangeet Sammelan every year.

The Vice-Chancellor informed the syndicate that the University has decided to conduct a workshop for the college principals to interact with the UGC officials for making them aware about the mechanism and procedures to avail grants under various plans and schemes under the 11th plan.

The syndicate approved appointments and promotions of 13 professors, 14 lecturers in the senior scale, two lecturers in the selection grade, one Assistant Registrar, 30 superintendents and one Executive Engineer.

Without making values bequeathed by India's major religions an integral part of everyday living, one can neither fulfill oneself nor make any positive contribution to the economic and social betterment of society."

            While delivering first Shaheed Nanak Singh Memorial Lecture, Dr H.K. Punjabi University VC approves projects worth crores of rupees: Financial autonomy to departments

Patiala, Dec 12- Punjabi University gets a special and out-of –the-ordinary pack of gifts of from its own Vice-Chancellor, Dr Jaspal Singh as he completes one year in his office in shape of approving new proposals and projects worth crores of rupees. The special beneficiaries of this benefaction will be the University Library, Guru Gobind Singh Bhawan and the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication. Another striking dimension of the bonanza, aimed at accelerating the spree of multi-dimensional growth and development, is granting "financial autonomy" to the teaching and research departments of the university.

            Elaborating on the projects, the Vice-Chancellor disclosed that an amount to the tune of Rs four crore has been earmarked for the construction of a monumental Media Centre spanning around 30,000 sq ft of plinth area. The rest of the three-acre land will be reserved for creating a "film city" to meet the exigent requirements of outdoor shooting. The Centre will have state-of-the-art audio and video studios, be equipped with high-end professional equipments, multimedia lab, editing and graphics labs, PCRs, VO rooms, preview auditorium, seminar room, community radio set-up, live TV broadcast studio etc. The Centre will be used as a production house and for imparting hands-on training to the prospective students in the profession.

             Dr Jaspal Singh further said that Rs one crore has been reserved for replenishing and refurbishing the only-of-its-kind  religious centre in the world for carrying out teaching and research work on Comparative Religion. Known as the Guru Gobind Singh Bhawan, the imposing building houses the Department of Religious Studies and Encyclopedia of
Sikhism. The Bhawan will be centrally air-conditioned and will have a100-seater auditorium for conducting regular seminars and conferences on religion. Another Rs two crore have been kept aside for totally air-conditioning Dr Ganda Singh Main Library which happens to be one of the richest libraries in the region. Both these projects have been targeted to be completed in a year's time as work has already been initiated in right earnest.

            To make the functioning of the teaching and research departments hassles-free, the Vice-Chancellor has approved Rs one lakh as an independent grant to all the teaching and research departments for the upgradation and strengthening of their infrastructure. The money could be used for emergency needs and carrying out necessary amendments and repairs which require immediate attention. Through an order he has authorized the Department Administrative Committees (ACDs) to make proposals to be approved by the registrar for spending the required money.

Pbi varsity donates Rs four lakhs for flood victims

Patiala, Dec 11- Punjabi University, Patiala, has donated an amount of more than Rs four lakhs as financial assistance for the flood victims in different parts of the country. The amount has been collected as a measure of donation in shape of one day's salary, donated by the Punjabi University's faculty and its employees on an appeal made by the Vice-Chancellor, Dr Jaspal Singh to this effect. The draft has been sent by the University's Registrar, Dr S.S. Khehra to the Principal Secretary of Punjab Chief Minister for forwarding it to the Prime Minister's relief fund for the flood victims.
 

Rs 10 lakh fund for Punjabi University

Patiala, Dec 11- Punjabi University's Vice-Chancellor, Dr Jaspal Singh has accepted an endowment fund of Rs 10 lakhs from a London-based Shaheed Nanak Singh Foundation (SNSF) to organise a series of annual lectures and seminars on various aspects related to communal harmony and national integration by the University's Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur National Integration Chair(SGTBNIC). While appreciating the magnanimous gesture of the foundation, the Vice-Chancellor said that it would do tremendous good to further the cause of national unity and integrity in addition to perpetuating the memory of the great martyr, Nanak Singh.
            Dr Baltej Maan, Prof and Head of the Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Chair, disclosed that the first Nanak Singh Memorial Lecture in the series will be delivered by Dr H.K. Manmohan Singh, former Vice-Chancellor of Punjabi on the theme, "Martyrdom for Human Freedom" on December 24.

ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਦੇ ਹਿੰਦੀ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਦੀ ਅਧਿਆਪਕਾ ਡਾ. ਸੁਖਵਿੰਦਰ ਕੌਰ ਬਾਠ ਨੂੰ 'ਅਖਿਲ ਭਾਰਤੀਯ ਸਾਹਿਤ ਕਲਾ ਮੰਚ', ਮੁਰਾਦਾਬਾਦ' (ਉੱਤਰ ਪ੍ਰਦੇਸ਼) ਵਲੋਂ ਸਾਲ 2008 ਲਈ ਸ਼੍ਰੋਮਣੀ ਸਾਹਿਤਕਾਰ ਅਵਾਰਡ ਨਾਲ ਸਨਮਾਨਿਆ ਗਿਆ। ਇਸ ਮੌਕੇ ਤੇ ਹਿੰਦੀ ਸਾਹਿਤ ਅਤੇ ਹਿੰਦੀ ਭਾਸ਼ਾ ਲਈ ਕੀਤੇ ਕੰਮਾਂ ਪੁਸਤਕ ਲੇਖਨ, ਸ਼ੋਧ-ਕਾਰਜ ਅਤੇ ਅਧਿਆਪਨ ਦੀਆਂ ਸੇਵਾਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਬਦਲੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਇੱਕ ਸ਼ਾਲ, ਯਾਦਗਾਰੀ ਚਿੰਨ ਅਤੇ 2100 ਰੁਪਏ ਨਾਲ ਸਨਮਾਨਿਆ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ।

ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਦੇ ਵਾਈਸ-ਚਾਂਸਲਰ ਡਾ. ਜਸਪਾਲ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੂੰ ਲੰਡਨ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਹੀਦ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਿੰਘ ਫਾਊਂਡੇਸ਼ਨ ਨੇ ਇੱਕ ਲੱਖ ਰੁਪਏ ਦਾ ਫੰਡ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ। ਇਹ ਰਾਸ਼ੀ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਨੂੰ ਰਾਸ਼ਟਰੀ ਏਕਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਧਾਰਮਿਕ ਸਦਭਾਵਨਾ ਤੇ ਸਲਾਨਾ ਲੈਕਚਰ ਅਤੇ ਸੈਮੀਨਾਰਾਂ ਦਾ ਆਯੋਜਨ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਗਈ ਹੈ। ਡਾ. ਜਸਪਾਲ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਦੀ ਸ਼੍ਰੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਤੇਗ ਬਹਾਦਰ ਨੈਸ਼ਨਲ ਇੰਟੈਗਰੇਸ਼ਨ ਚੇਅਰ ਇਸ ਰਾਸ਼ੀ ਦੀ ਵਰਤੋਂ ਸ਼ਹੀਦ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਿੰਘ ਦੀ ਯਾਦ ਤਾਜਾ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਵਿਸ਼ੇਸ਼ ਲੈਕਚਰਾਂ ਦਾ ਆਯੋਜਨ ਕਰੇਗੀ ਜਿਸ ਨਾਲ ਰਾਸ਼ਟਰੀ ਏਕਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਅਖੰਡਤਾ ਨੂੰ ਮਜ਼ਬੂਤੀ ਮਿਲੇਗੀ। ਸ਼੍ਰੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਤੇਗ ਬਹਾਦਰ ਚੇਅਰ ਦੇ ਮੁਖੀ ਪ੍ਰੋਫੈਸਰ ਬਲਤੇਜ ਸਿੰਘ ਮਾਨ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਪਹਿਲਾ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਿੰਘ ਮੈਮੋਰੀਅਲ ਲੈਕਚਰ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਦੇ ਸਾਬਕਾ ਵਾਈਸ-ਚਾਂਸਲਰ ਡਾ. ਐਚ.ਕੇ.

ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਭਾਸ਼ਾ, ਸਾਹਿਤ ਅਤੇ ਸਭਿਆਚਾਰ ਦੇ ਵਿਕਾਸ ਦੀ ਮੁਹਿੰਮ ਨੂੰ ਨਿਰੰਤਰਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਨਵੀਂ ਗਤੀ ਪ੍ਰਦਾਨ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਸਿੰਡੀਕੇਟ ਵਲੋਂ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਵਿਕਾਸ ਲਈ ਗਠਿਤ ਸਥਾਈ-ਕਮੇਟੀ ਦੀ ਇਕੱਤਰਤਾ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਦੇ ਵਾਈਸ-ਚਾਂਸਲਰ ਡਾ. ਜਸਪਾਲ ਸਿੰਘ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਧਾਨਗੀ ਹੇਠ ਸਿੰਡੀਕੇਟ ਰੂਮ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੋਈ। ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਭਾਸ਼ਾ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਮੁੱਖ ਸਾਹਿਤਕਾਰਾਂ, ਚਿੰਤਕਾਂ, ਪੰਜਾਬ ਅਤੇ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਹਰ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਵਿਕਾਸ ਦੇ ਵਿਭਿੰਨ ਖੇਤਰਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਕੰਮ ਕਰਦੇ ਮਾਹਿਰਾਂ ਤੇ ਚੋਣਵੇਂ ਨੁਮਾਇੰਦਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਇਸ ਇਕੱਤਰਤਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਲਗਭਗ ਡੇਢ ਦਰਜਨ ਵਿਦਵਾਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਸ਼ਿਰਕਤ ਕੀਤੀ। ਇਸ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਭਾਸ਼ਾ, ਸਾਹਿਤ ਤੇ ਸਭਿਆਚਾਰ ਦੇ ਸਰਬਪੱਖੀ ਵਿਕਾਸ ਨਾਲ ਸਬੰਧਤ 50 ਤੋਂ ਵੱਧ ਪ੍ਰਾਜੈਕਟਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਵਾਨਗੀ ਦਿੱਤੀ। ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਪ੍ਰਾਜੈਕਟਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਪੰਜ ਵਿਸ਼ਾ ਕੋਸ਼ਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਇਲਾਵਾ ਸਾਹਿਤਕ ਸਵੈ-ਜੀਵਨੀਆਂ, ਮੋਨੋਗ੍ਰਾਫ, ਅਨੁਵਾਦ ਅਤੇ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਲੋਕਧਾਰਾ ਦੀ ਸੁਰੱਖਿਆ ਤੇ ਸੰਭਾਲ ਨਾਲ ਸਬੰਧਤ ਕਈ ਅਹਿਮ ਪ੍ਰਾਜੈਕਟ ਸ਼ਾਮਲ ਹਨ। ਡਾ. ਜਸਪਾਲ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੇ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਕਿ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਭਾਸ਼ਾ, ਸਾਹਿਤ ਅਤੇ ਸਭਿਆਚਾਰ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਚਾਰ, ਪਾਸਾਰ ਅਤੇ ਵਿਕਾਸ ਦਾ ਉੱਚਤਮ ਕੇਂਦਰ ਬਣਨ ਲਈ ਹਰ ਸੰਭਵ ਉਪਰਾਲਾ ਕਰੇਗੀ ਅਤੇ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਗੀਤ-ਸੰਗੀਤ, ਨ੍ਰਿਤ ਅਤੇ ਲੋਕਧਾਰਾ ਦੇ ਹੋਰ ਅਹਿਮ ਰੂਪਾਂ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਮਾਣਿਕ ਅਤੇ ਸਹੀ ਸਰੂਪ ਸੰਭਾਲਣ ਲਈ ਉਚੇਚੇ ਯਤਨ ਕਰੇਗੀ। ਇਸ ਕਮੇਟੀ ਨੇ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਲਈ ਅਕਾਦਮਿਕ ਕੰਮ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਾਹਿਰਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਲੇਖਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਜਾਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਿਹਨਤਾਨੇ ਵਿਚ ਵਾਧਾ ਕਰਨ ਦੀਆਂ ਸਿਫਾਰਸ਼ਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਵਾਨਗੀ ਦਿੱਤੀ। ਇਸ ਇਕੱਤਰਤਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਡਾ. ਦਲੀਪ ਕੌਰ ਟਿਵਾਣਾ, ਡਾ. ਸੁਤਿੰਦਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੂਰ, ਡਾ. ਮਹਿੰਦਰ ਕੌਰ ਗਿੱਲ, ਡਾ. ਦੀਪਕ ਮਨਮੋਹਨ ਸਿੰਘ, ਡਾ. ਰਵੇਲ ਸਿੰਘ, ਡਾ. ਨਰਵਿੰਦਰ ਸਿੰਘ

Punjabi University increases honorariums to its fellows

Patiala, Dec 11- The Punjabi University's standing committee for the development of Punjabi language, art and culture has approved substantial rise in remuneration and honorarium amounts being paid to various categories of its fellows and scholars of Punjabi.

The meeting, held under the chairmanship of the Vice-Chancellor, Dr Jaspal Singh gave its approval for the preparation and  publication of 50 new projects which included subject encyclopedias, dictionaries,  literary autobiographies, monographs and translation of classic works. The meeting also gave its nod to start projects for the revival and sustenance of vanishing folklores and folk art forms, including dances, music and other fine art forms. Prominent among those who participated in the meeting included Dr Dalip Kaur Tiwana, Dr Sutinder Singh Noor, Dr Deepak Manmohan Singh, Dr Mohinder Kaur Gill, Dr Rawel Singh, Dr Jaswinder Singh, Dr Rawel Singh, Dr Dhanwant Kaur and Dr Baldev Singh Cheema.

Guru Granth Sahib panacea for human suffereings

Patiala, Dec 11- "Guru Granth sahib is not just an ordinary holy scripture but also contains a detailed account of significant events related to humanity and its sufferings at the hands of the contemporary tyrannical regimes and other such forces. It also constitutes a panacea  to all types of aches and agonies, commonly faced by the human beings due to their wrong measures and judgments."

This was stated by Dr Jaspal Singh Vice-Chancellor of Punjabi University while presiding over "Guru Nanak Commemorative Lecture" at the Senate Hall here today. In his lecture, a noted Sikh scholar and former Pro-Vice-Chancellor of GNDU, Amritsar, Dr Prithpal Singh Kapoor highlighted the problems and complexities related to oral historical descriptions. This usually led to the emergence of wrong perceptions about Sikh religion, particularly about Guru Nanak as depicted by the foreign scholars in their treatises, he said. This, however, also encouraged some of the Sikh scholars to clear these misgivings and wrong notions about their culture and
historiography, he added. Head of the Department of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Studies, Dr Gurnek Singh and Dr Sarabjinder Singh also spoke on the occasion.
 

Rs 10 lakh fund for Punjabi University

Patiala, Dec 11- Punjabi University's Vice-Chancellor, Dr Jaspal Singh has accepted an endowment fund of Rs 10 lakhs from a London-based Shaheed Nanak Singh Foundation (SNSF) to organise a series of annual lectures and seminars on various aspects related to communal harmony and national integration by the University's Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur National Integration Chair(SGTBNIC).
While appreciating the magnanimous gesture of the foundation, the Vice-Chancellor said that it would do tremendous good to further the cause of national unity and integrity in addition to perpetuating the memory of the great martyr, Nanak Singh.

            Dr Baltej Maan, Prof and Head of the Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Chair, disclosed that the first Nanak Singh Memorial Lecture in the series will be delivered by Dr H.K. Manmohan Singh, former Vice-Chancellor of Punjabi on the theme, "Martyrdom for Human Freedom" on December 24.

Dr. Manjit Inder Singh, Professor in the Department of English, Punjabi University, has been invited to present the Keynote Address at the 53rd All India English Teachers' Conference, being held at the Gurukul Kangri University, Hardwar from December 18-20, 2008.  The theme of the conference is 'Indian sensibility in Indian Engllish Literature.'

AIDS awareness rally

Patiala, Dec 1- Punjabi University's NSS Department took out a rally on the campus to create awareness about AIDS among University students. Inaugurating the rally, Dean, Students welfare, Dr Kulbir Singh Dhillon said that we need to be extra-cautious about this deadly disease as this was claiming more lives than ever before. Of the 33 crore people suffering from this disease over three crore were Indians, he said. NSS Programme Officers, Mohd Idris, Dr Gurpeet Kaur, Dr Pushpinder Dhillon and Dr Dharm Pal Mor participated in the rally.

Dr Jagtar elected President

Patiala, Dec 1- Prof. Jagtar Singh, Dean, Faculty of Education and Information Science, Punjabi University, Patiala has been elected President of the Indian Association of Teachers of Library and Information Science (IATLIS) for the term 2008- 2011 while  Dr. Trishanjit Kaur, Reader in the Department has been elected its General Secretary. Other members of the team are Prof. B.D. Kumbar and Prof. I.V. Malhan, Vice Presidents, Dr. H.P.S. Kalra, Joint Secretary, Ms. Kiran Kathuria, Treasurer.
 

Media workshop concludes at Punjabi University

Patiala, Dec 1- A seven-day first of kind workshop on "TV and Film Production" and a symposium on "Vision 2020: Future of Media in Convergence Era", organised by the Punjabi University's Department of Journalism and Mass Communication concluded here today. These were conducted by Prof Ujjwal K Chowdhury, Dean, Symbiosis International University and Director, Symbiosis Institute of Media and Communication, Pune, Mr Utpal Amerndra Chowdhury, a noted film maker and FTII, Pune's visiting faculty, and Mr Imram Shahid, Programming Head of 90.4 FM. One of the many unique aspects of the workshop was that it was extended from four to seven days on the persistent demand of the students.

            Mr Utpal Chowdhry shared valuable tips with the students on 'subtle nuances' of film making and film appreciation, which included understanding film grammar, film language, shot and scene analysis, picture
composition, visualization, script and screenplay writing, lighting and sound effects. His methodology included shot-by-shot and scene-by-scene analysis of at least a dozen Indian classics and Oscar award winning films like Bicycle Thieves, Glasses, Roman Holiday, Happy Anniversary, Wedding, Clear Skies, Manthan and Pather Panchali. He also shared his ideas regarding importance of such elements as 'approach, treatment and creative interpretation of facts and reality'.

            In his symposium keynote address, Prof Ujjwal Chowdhury said that Media convergence was opening a new chapter everyday changing in the process its landscape, its curves and contours. While talking about Media convergence and its challenges, market and technology convergence, convergence in media ownership, consumption and buying, he strongly felt
that as a result of this development, "very soon televisions, computers, mobiles and radio will be replaced by a single synthetic tool, even as it will bring about other big changes in the world of communication, both in its content and business".

            Terming the seven-day programme as 'not less than a film festival', the students described it as a blessing to learn the process of film making. According to one of the students, Navita Madaan, Mr Chowdhury through his excellent demonstrative techniques has made me learn the art of "condensing and expanding the real and reel times." Said Anshuman Gupta "This workshop has brought a complete transformation in me, having shown me the path in my professional career.  I never felt exhausted even after the long eight hour-sessions, rather felt sad when these ended." Another student, Medha Kapoor felt that the workshop has given her the "insight and vision to watch films with entirely a new perspective, setting me apart from ordinary audience. Understanding lighting, composition, framing using cuts and script writing were never so easy, she said."  Ramvir felt that, "It has made me easily understand the intricacies of film making."

                        Head of the Department, Dr Gurmeet Maan, while deeply appreciating the unique contribution of Prof Ujjwal Chowdhruy and Mr Utpal Chowdhury, described it as an eye-opener. It has not only transformed every student's perspective and style of thinking about the film making process but has also exposed them to learn the art of 'reading a film'. "We are soon going to have another workshop to further finetune the hidden talent of our students and exposing them to newer areas and features of audio-visual production," he said.
