Workshop on Scriptwriting concludes at CAMS

Patiala, 10 February- Practical examinations of under graduate (B.A / B.Sc / B.Com) courses of Punjabi University Patiala shall be commencing with effect from 07th March, 2011. Giving this information Controller Examinations Dr. Pawan Kumar Singla said that theory exams of B.A. Part-1 for private candidates and Distance Education Department would start from 22 March, 2011 and B.A Part-1 regular and other under graduate courses would commence from 30th March, 2011 and Post Graduate examinations will be held from 19th April.

Patiala, Feb 10- The University Grants Commission has awarded one major research grant of Rs 10, 94,300 and one minor research grant of Rs 1, 50,000 for the research projects “Exploring neuroprotective mechanisms of ischemic post-conditioning in mice” and “Exploring the mechanisms in central sensitization in chronic constriction induced neuropathic pain in rats” to Dr Nirmal Singh, Reader and Mr Amteshwar Singh Jaggi, Assistant Professor in the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Drug Research, Punjabi University, Patiala. The outcome of these research projects is expected to open new avenues in the management of “Stroke” and “Neuropathic Pain” for which current therapeutic modalities are very limited. Dr Nirmal Singh is already pursuing a CSIR-funded major research project on neuropathic pain management. Conference on women & child Issues
Patiala, Feb 10- Punjabi University’s Women’s' Studies Centre is organising an International Conference on "Women and Child Issues: National and International Perspectives" on February 11 and 12 on the University campus. According to WSC Director, Dr Manju Verma more than 300 abstracts of papers have been received from scholars from India and abroad, while more than 15 departments of the University have collaborated with the centre and given their academic inputs. There would be 21 technical sessions during the two days of the conference, dealing with various issues concerning women and children development, she said.

ਇਸ ਮੌਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਧਾਨਗੀ ਭਾਸ਼ਣ ਦਿੰਦਿਆਂ ਉਪ ਕੁਲਪਤੀ ਡਾ. ਜਸਾਪਾਲ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਵੱਖ ਵਖ ਧਰਮਾ ਵਿਚ ਸੰਵਾਦ ਰਚਾਉਣ ਨਾਲ ਗੁਣਕਾਰੀ ਅਤੇ ਕਲਿਆਣਕਾਰੀ ਸਮਾਜ ਦੀ ਸਿਰਜਣਾ, ਬ੍ਰਹਿਮੰਡੀ ਸੰਤੁਲਣ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਕਸਤ ਕਰਨ, ਸਭਿਆਚਾਰਕ ਅਤੇ ਧਾਰਮਿਕ ਬਹੁਵਾਦ ਲਈ ਸੁਹਾਵਣਾ ਅਤੇ ਮੌਜੂਦਾ ਦੌਰ ਵਿਚਲੇ ਅਸ਼ਾਤ ਮਨਾ ਨੂੰ ਠੀਕ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਅਧਿਆਤਮਕ ਅਤੇ ਅਨੁਭਵੀ ਗਿਆਨ ਦੇ ਤੌਰ ਤੇ ਦੋਵਾਂ ਸਦੰਰਭਾ ਵਿਚ ਬਹੁਤ ਸਹਾਈ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ।ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਧਰਮਾਂ ਵਿਚਕਾਰ ਸੰਵਾਦ ਨੇ ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾ ਹੀ ਸਮਾਜ ਵਿਚ ਸ਼ਾਤੀ, ਸਦਭਾਵਨਾ ਅਤੇ  ਮੇਲ ਜੋਲ ਨੂੰ ਵਧਾਇਆ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਕਈ ਜੰਗਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਹੋਣ ਤੋਂ ਰੋਕਿਆ ਹੈ। ਅਮਰੀਕਾ ਦੀ ਵਾਸ਼ਿਗਟਨ ਸਟੇਟ ਨੈਟਵਰਕ ਫਾਰ ਹਿਊਮਨ ਰਾਈਟਸ ਦੇ ਚੇਆਰਮੈਨ ਡਾ. ਸ਼ਵਰਾਜ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੇ ਇਸ ਮੌਕੇ ਬੋਲਦਿਆਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਵਿਚ ਸਿਰਫ ਇਕੱਲੀ ਸਿੱਖ ਵਿਚਾਰਧਾਰ ਹੀ ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਸਰਬੱਤ ਦੇ ਭਲੇ ਅਤੇ ਸਰਭਸਾਂਝੀਵਾਲਤਾ ਦਾ ਸੱਚਾ ਸੰਦੇਸ਼ ਦਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ।ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਸਿੱਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਭੁਗੋਲਿਕ ਤੌਰ ਤੇ ਸੀਮਤ ਜਮਾਤ ਤੋਂ ਵਿਸ਼ਵ ਪੱਧਰ ਦੀ ਜਮਾਤ ਦੇ ਤੌਰ ਤੇ ਉਭਰਨ ਨਾਲ ਸਿੱਖੀ ਦੇ ਅਰਥਾ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਸ਼ਵ ਪੱਧਰ ਤੇ ਸ਼ਮਝਣ ਲਈ  ਢੁਕਵਾਂ ਮਹੋਲ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ।ਇਸ ਮੌਕੇ ਸ੍ਰੋਮਣੀ ਕਮੇਟੀ ਮੈਂਬਰ ਮਿਸ ਕਿਰਨਜੋਤ ਕੌਰ ਨੇ ਵੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਪੇਸ਼ ਕੀਤੇ।

Scholars stress upon interfaith dialogue to promote religious plurality

Patiala, Feb 8- The three-day international conference on “Emerging Trends in Religion”, being jointly organised by the Punjabi University’s Department of Encyclopaedia of Sikhism and Institute of Meditation and Interfaith Studies, Rishikesh got underway on the University campus here today. Scholars, while deliberating upon the issue of relevance of religion in the contemporary society, stressed upon the necessity of promoting the concept of interfaith dialogue which could act as a panacea for alleviating the baleful menaces of hatred, violence, hostility and sadism.
In his presidential address, Vice-Chancellor, Dr Jaspal Singh said that interfaith dialogue has all the underpinnings of creating a wholesome and welfare society, fostering a cosmic equilibrium, best suited for cultural and religious plurality and most relevant for the disturbed contemporary minds, both in the epistemological and experiential contexts. The mechanism of the interfaith dialogue has undoubtedly saved many a war from happening and helped in promoting peace, harmony, concord and better understanding of relationships. Notwithstanding this positive attribute gaining ground, the hidden or surreptitious instincts of animosity and hostility towards the adversary in any form is yet to see a complete ending, he said.
Dr Sawraj Singh, Chairman, Washington State Network for Human Rights, the USA, said that Sikh philosophy was the only philosophy in the world that has a true global perspective as it was based on the concepts of universal welfare and brotherhood. Transformation from a geographically limited community to a global community has created favourable conditions for universal interpretation of Sikhism, he said. Ms Kiranjot Kaur, member SGPC, said that the core message of Sikhism was that “spiritual journey begins from within and that it rejects meaningless rituals and the clergy and puts the seeker in direct connection with the High Power.”
Seminar Coordinator, and HoD of Encyclopaedia of Sikhism, Dr Jodh Singh gave a brief perspective of the conference. Dr Birinderpal Singh, Dr A.s. Chawla and Dr paramveer singh also spoke on the occasion.

International film maker to conduct workshop at CAMS

Patiala, Feb 6- International documentary film maker, Dr Vikram Dutt will conduct a workshop on “Visualisation and Script Writing” at Punjabi University’s Centre for Advanced Media Studies (CAMS) on February 8 and 9. Giving this information, CAMS Director, Dr Gurmeet Singh Maan said that Dr Dutt will cover various aspects of film making, including visual writing, concept development, storytelling contents, themes and ideas, emotion identification and elements of surprise and recognition etc.
With over 35 years of experience in media, Dr Dutt happens to be the first Indian to be commissioned by the Discovery Channel to research and write scripts on various themes. He has so far made 50 documentaries, including 16 for Discovery, out of which four have been screened at Cannes Film Festival and one at the Rome and Milan Film Festival. Having extensively lectured at prestigious organisations, including the World Bank and in various Universities in the USA, UK, Italy and Germany, Dr Dutt is Editorial Advisor of ‘Sexuality & Disability’, world’s premier scientific journal on the subject, published by the Boston University, the USA.

ਪਟਿਆਲਾ, ੦੪ ਫਰਵਰੀ- ਭਾਵੇਂ ਕਿ ਨੈਨੋ-ਰੋਬੋਟ ਨੂੰ ਵੱਡੇ ਪੱਧਰ 'ਤੇ ਰਸਾਇਣਕ ਅਤੇ ਜੈਵਿਕ ਹਥਿਆਰ ਵਜੋਂ ਵਰਤਿਆ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਇਸ ਵਿਧੀ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਮਨੁੱਖੀ ਗੁਣਾ ਦਿਮਾਗ, ਸਾਹ ਲੈਣ ਪ੍ਰਕ੍ਰਿਆ, ਮਾਸਪੇਸ਼ੀਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਡੀ.ਐਨ.ਏ ਵਿਚ ਬਦਲਾਅ ਕਾਰਨ ਮਨੁੱਖੀ ਹੋਂਦ ਨੂੰ ਵੱਡਾ ਖਤਰਾ ਖੜਾ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਇਸ ਦੇ ਬਾਵਜੂਦ ਨੈਨੋਟੈਕਨਾਲੋਜੀ ਅਤੇ ਰੇਡੀਏਸ਼ਨਜ਼ ਦੇ ਸੰਭਾਵਿਤ ਔਜ਼ਾਰ ਸ਼ਾਤੀ ਦੇ ਨਵੇਂ ਦੌਰ ਵਿਚ ਸਵਾਗਤਯੋਗ ਹਨ।ਇੰਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਿਚਾਰਾਂ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਗਟਾਵਾ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਦੇ ਉਪ ਕੁਲਪਤੀ ਡਾ. ਜਸਪਾਲ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੇ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਦੇ ਫਿਜੀਕਸ਼ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਵਲੋਂ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਕੈਂਪਸ ਵਿਖੇ 'ਰੇਡੀਏਸ਼ਨ ਫਿਜੀਕਸ਼ ਐਂਡ ਨੈਨੋਟੈਕਨਾਲੋਜ਼ੀ' ਵਿਸ਼ੇ 'ਤੇ ਕਰਵਾਏ ਜਾ ਰਹੇ ਦੋ ਰੋਜ਼ਾ ਰਾਸ਼ਟਰੀ ਸੈਮੀਨਾਰ ਦੇ ਉਦਘਾਟਨੀ ਸਮਾਗਮ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਧਾਨਗੀ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਕੀਤਾ।ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਿਗਿਆਨੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਅਪੀਲ ਕੀਤੀ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਵਿਗਿਆਨਕ ਖੋਜਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਲੈਬਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਹਰ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਜਾਣ ਤਾਂ ਜੋ ਸਮਾਜ ਦਾ ਵਿਕਾਸ ਹੋ ਸਕੇ।ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਸੌੜੇ ਹਿੱਤਾਂ ਲਈ ਵਾਤਾਵਰਣ ਅਤੇ ਕੁਦਰਤ ਨਾਲ ਬੇਰਹਿਮੀ ਨਾਲ ਹੋ ਰਹੇ ਖਿਲਵਾੜ ਨੂੰ ਰੋਕਣ ਲਈ ਵੱਖ ਖੇਤਰਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਕੰਮ ਕਰਦੇ
ਵਿਗਿਆਨੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਖਾਸ ਧਿਆਨ ਦੇਣ ਦੀ ਲੋੜ ਹੈ।
ਇਸ ਮੌਕੇ ਉਦਘਾਟੀ ਭਾਸ਼ਣ ਦਿੰਦਿਆਂ ਸੈਂਟਰਲ ਸਾਇੰਟਿਫਿਕ ਇੰਸਟਰੂਮੈਂਟ ਆਰਗਨਾਈਜੇਸ਼ਨ ਦੇ ਅਡੀਸ਼ਨਲ ਡਾਈਰੈਕਟਰ ਡਾ. ਲਲਿਤ ਭਾਰਦਵਾਜ ਨੇ ਅਧਿਆਪਕਾਂ, ਖੋਜਾਰਥੀਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਅਪੀਲ ਕੀਤੀ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਵਿਗਿਆਨ ਦੇ ਖੇਤਰ ਵਿਚ ਲਕੀਰ ਦੇ ਫਕੀਰ ਬਣਨ ਦੀ ਬਜਾਏ ਕੁਝ ਨਵਾਂ ਕਰਨ ਅਤੇ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਗਿਆਨ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਧ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਧ ਲਾਭ ਉਠਾਉਣ ਦਾ ਯਤਨ ਕਰਨ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਜ਼ੋਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਕਿ ਅਕਾਦਮਿਕ ਅਤੇ ਉਦਯੋਗ ਦੀ ਸਾਂਝ ਨੂੰ ਮਜਬੂਤ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਤਾਂ ਜੋ ਵਧੀਆ ਉਤਪਾਦਨ ਹੋ ਸਕੇ।ਇਸ ਤੋਂ ਇਲਾਵਾ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੈਨੋਟੈਕਨਾਲੋਜ਼ੀ ਦੀ ਵੱਖ ਵੱਖ ਖੇਤਰਾਂ ਖੇਤੀਬਾੜੀ, ਦਵਾਈਆਂ, ਇਲੈਕਟ੍ਰਾਨਿਕਸ ਅਤੇ ਕੰਪਿਊਟਰ ਆਦਿ ਵਿਚ ਵਰਤੋ ਬਾਰੇ ਵਿਸਥਾਰ ਨਾਲ ਜਾਣਕਾਰੀ ਸਾਂਝੀ ਕੀਤੀ।ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਆਉਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਸਮੇਂ ਵਿਚ ਨੈਨੋਟੈਕਨਾਲੋਜ਼ੀ ਵਲੋਂ ਦੁਨੀਆਂ ਦਾ ਮੁਹਾਂਦਰਾ ਬਿਲਕੁਲ ਬਦਲ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਜਾਵੇਗਾ ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਇਸ ਖੇਤਰ ਵਿਚ ਹਾਲੇ ਬਹੁਤ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਸੰਭਾਵਨਾਵਾਂ  ਮੌਜੂਦ ਹਨ।
ਇਸ ਤੋਂ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਸੈਮੀਨਾਰ ਦੇ ਕਨਵੀਨਰ ਅਤੇ ਇੰਡੀਅਨ ਸੁਸਾਈਟੀ ਫਾਰ ਰੇਡੀਏਸ਼ਨ ਪਟਿਆਲਾ ਚੈਪਟਰ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਧਾਨ ਡਾ. ਗੁਰਮੇਲ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੇ ਸੁਸਾਈਟੀ ਵਲੋਂ ਕੀਤੇ ਜਾ ਰਹੇ ਕਾਰਜਾਂ ਬਾਰੇ ਜਾਣਕਾਰੀ ਦਿੰਦਿਆਂ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਕਿ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਵਲੋਂ ਕੱਢੇ ਗਏ ਖੋਜ ਪਰਚਿਆਂ ਸਮੇਤ ਹਰ ਹਰ ਕਾਰਜ ਵਿੱਚ ਵੱਡਾ ਯੋਗਦਾਨ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ।ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਸੁਸਾਈਟੀ ਅਤੇ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਵਲੋਂ ਆਮ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਫਿਜੀਕਸ਼ ਵਿਸ਼ੇ ਬਾਰੇ ਜਾਣਕਾਰੀ ਦੇਣ ਲਈ ਵਿਸ਼ੇਸ਼ ਉਪਰਾਲੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਜਾਣਗੇ।
ਸੈਮੀਨਾਰ ਦੇ ਅਰਗਨਾਈਜਿੰਗ ਸਕੱਤਰ ਡਾ. ਭਗਨ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੇ ਇਸ ਦੋ ਦਿਨਾ ਰਾਸ਼ਟਰੀ ਸੈਮੀਨਾਰ ਦੀ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਹੋਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਅਕਾਦਮਿਕ ਸੈਸ਼ਨਾ ਤੋਂ ਜਾਣੂ ਕਰਵਾਇਆ।
ਵਿਭਾਗ ਦੇ ਮੁੱਖੀ ਡਾ. ਐਚ ਐਸ. ਭੱਟੀ ਨੇ ਆਏ ਹੋਏ ਡੈਲੀਗਟਸ ਅਤੇ ਮਹਿਮਾਨਾ ਦਾ ਸੁਆਗਤ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਦੀਆਂ ਉਪਲੱਬਧੀਆਂ ਬਾਰੇ ਜਿਕਰ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਕਿ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਹੁਣ ਤੱਕ ੧੭੦੦ ਅੰਤਰਾਸ਼ਟਰੀ ਖੋਜ ਪੱਤਰ ਕੱਢ ਚੱਕਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਦੇ ਅਧਿਆਪਕਾਂ, ਖੋਜਾਰਥੀਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਵਲੋਂ ਹੁਣ ਤੱਕ ੨੦੦੦ ਪਰਚੇ ਵੱਖ ਵੱਖ ਸੈਮੀਨਾਰਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਕਾਨਫeਰੰਸਾ ਵਿਚ ਪੇਸ਼ ਕੀਤੇ ਜਾ ਚੱਕੇ ਹਨ।ਇਸ ਤੋਂ ਇਲਵਾ ੧੭ ਕਿਤਾਬਾਂ ਵੀ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਛਾਪ ਚੱਕਾ ਹੈ।ਇਸ ਸਮਾਗਮ ਦੇ ਅੰਤ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਦੇ ਡਾ. ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੇ ਆਏ ਹੋਏ ਡੈਲੀਗਟਸ ਅਤੇ ਮਹਿਮਾਨਾ ਦਾ ਧੰਨਵਾਦ ਕੀਤਾ।

Experts call upon making holistic use of science applications

Patiala, Feb 4- “That self-replicating nano-robots could be used as massive chemical and biological weapons and change in human properties such as brain, respiration, muscles and DNA could threaten the existence of human beings even then nanotechnology and radiations constitute potential tools to usher in a new era of peace.” This was stated by Dr Jaspal Singh, Vice-Chancellor of Punjabi University while inaugurating a two-day National Symposium on “Radiation Physics and Nano-materials”, being organised by the University’s Department of Physics on the University campus here today. He called upon the scientists to use the applications of science for the welfare of the society by developing better “lab-life” relationship and by working in coordination with scholars from other fields while taking care of the environment and nature which is being mercilessly spoiled for vested interests.
Dr. Lalit Bharadwaj, Additional Director, Central Scientific Instrument Organisation (CSIO), urged the teachers, scholars and students to be innovative and draw maximum gain from the existential phenomena. He cautioned the scientists to refrain from raising watertight compartments within different branches of science and encouraged to develop industry-academia link as “we don’t purchase science but products”, he said. He also spoke about various applications of nanotechnology in the field of agricultural, medicine, electronics, and computers etc. Nanotechnology is changing the face of world in the coming years because there is a plenty of space at the bottom, Dr Bharadwaj said.
Dr. H.S. Bhatti, HoD, and other faculty from the Department, includingDr Bhajan Singh, Dr Gurmel Singh and Dr Darshan Singh also spoke on the occasion.

ਪਟਿਆਲਾ, ੨ ਫਰਵਰੀ- ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਦੇ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਭਾਸ਼ਾ ਵਿਕਾਸ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਵਲੋਂ 'ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਭਾਸ਼ਾ ਵਿਕਾਸ ਦੇ ਨਵੇਂ ਪਾਸਾਰ' ਵਿਸ਼ੇ ਤੇ ਕਰਵਾਈ ਗਈ ੨੭ਵੀਂ ਅੰਤਰਰਾਸ਼ਟਰੀ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਵਿਕਾਸ ਕਾਨਫਰੰਸ ਅੱਜ ਪੂਰੀ ਸਫ਼ਲਤਾ ਪੂਰਵਕ ਸੰਪੰਨ ਹੋ ਗਈ। ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਯੁਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਵਾਈਸ-ਚਾਂਸਲਰ ਡਾ. ਜਸਪਾਲ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਪ੍ਰਧਾਨਗੀ ਭਾਸ਼ਣ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਯੁਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਵਲੋਂ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਭਾਸ਼ਾ ਦੀ ਇਤਿਹਾਸਕਤਾ ਸਬੰਧੀ ਖੋਜ ਪ੍ਰੋਜੈਕਟ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕਰਨ ਦਾ ਐਲਾਨ ਕੀਤਾ।ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਇਸ ਪ੍ਰੋਜੈਕਟ ਅਧੀਨ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਭਾਸ਼ਾ ਦੀ ਸ਼ੁਰੂਆਤ ਤੋਂ ਵਿਕਾਸ ਤੱਕ ਦੇ ਸਫਰ ਨੁੰ ਇਤਿਹਾਸਕ ਪਰਿਪੇਖ ਦੇ ਸਬੰਧ ਵਿਚ ਕਲਮਬੰਦ ਕਰਨ ਦਾ ਉਪਰਾਲਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾਵੇਗਾ।ਡਾ. ਜਸਪਾਲ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੇ ਇਸ ਪ੍ਰੋਜੈਕਟ ਦੀ ਕਮਾਨ ਅੰਤਰ-ਰਾਸ਼ਟਰੀ ਪ੍ਰਸਿੱਧੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਵਿਦਵਾਨ ਡਾ. ਕਪਿਲ ਕਪੂਰ, ਸਾਬਕਾ ਪ੍ਰੋ-ਵਾਈਸ ਚਾਂਸਲਰ, ਜਵਾਹਰ ਲਾਲ ਨਹਿਰੂ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ, ਦਿੱਲੀ ਨੂੰ ਸੌਪਣ ਦਾ ਐਲਾਨ ਵੀ ਕੀਤਾ।
ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਦੀ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਸੰਬੰਧੀ ਆਪਣੀ ਪ੍ਰਤੀਬੱਧਤਾ ਨੂੰ ਦੁਹਰਾਉਂਦਿਆਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਜੋ ਵੀ ਵਿਦਵਾਨ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਵਿਕਾਸ ਸੰਬੰਧੀ ਕੰਮ ਕਰੇਗਾ, ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਉਸਦੀ ਹਰ ਸੰਭਵ ਮਦਦ ਕਰੇਗੀ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਕਿ ਅਗਲੇ ਛੇ ਮਹੀਨਿਆਂ ਵਿਚ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ, ਵਿਖੇ ਲੇਖਕਾਂ ਲਈ ਰਾਈਟਰਜ਼ ਹੋਮ ਬਣਾਇਆ ਜਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ। ਇਹ ਅਪਾਰਟਮੈਂਟਸ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਰਿਟਾਇਰਡ ਵਿਦਵਾਨਾਂ ਲਈ ਹੋਣਗੇ ਜੋ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਦੇ ਆਕਦਮਿਕ ਮਾਹੌਲ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਕੰਮ ਕਰਨਾ ਚਾਹੁਣਗੇ।
ਅੰਤਰ-ਰਾਸ਼ਟਰੀ ਪ੍ਰਸਿੱਧੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਵਿਦਵਾਨ ਡਾ. ਕਪਿਲ ਕਪੂਰ, ਸਾਬਕਾ ਪ੍ਰੋ-ਵਾਈਸ ਚਾਂਸਲਰ, ਜਵਾਹਰ ਲਾਲ ਨਹਿਰੂ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ, ਦਿੱਲੀ ਨੇ ਵਿਦਾਇਗੀ ਭਾਸ਼ਨ ਦਿੰਦਿਆਂ ਆਖਿਆ ਕਿ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਭਾਸ਼ਾ ਇੱਕ ਵਿਕਸਤ ਭਾਸ਼ਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਇਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਅਲੱਗ-ਅਲੱਗ ਵਿਸ਼ਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਮੌਲਿਕ ਖੋਜ ਕੀਤੀ ਜਾ ਸਕਦੀ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਕਰਨੀ ਚਾਹੀਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਜ਼ੋਰ ਦੇ ਕੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਦੇ ਬੌਧਿਕ ਗਿਆਨ ਨੂੰ ਏਨਾ ਅਮੀਰ ਬਣਾ ਦੇਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਜੋ ਇਸ ਦੀ ਜਾਣਕਾਰੀ ਲੈਣ ਲਈ ਹੋਰਨਾ ਭਾਸ਼ਾਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਜਬੂਰ ਹੋਣਾ ਪਵੇ।ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਭਾਸ਼ਾ ਦਾ ਅਸਲੀ ਵਿਕਾਸ ਗਿਆਨ ਨਾਲ ਜੁੜਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ।ਇਸ ਲਈ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਵੱਧ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਧ ਵਿਸ਼ਿਆਂ ਦਾ ਗਿਆਨ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਵਿਚ ਉਪਲੱਬਧ ਕਰਵਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਤਹੱਈਆ ਕਰਨਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ।ਉਨਾਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਸਾਇੰਸ ਅਤੇ ਬਾਕੀ ਵਿਸ਼ਿਆਂ ਦਾ ਗਿਆਨ ਬੱਚਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਵਿਚ ਉਪਲੱਬਧ ਕਰਵਾਉਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ।ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਅੰਗਰਜ਼ੀ ਭਾਸ਼ਾ ਤੇ ਕਟਾਸ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਹਾ ਕਿ ਸਾਡੀ ਦੁਸ਼ਮਣ ਅੰਗਰੇਜੀ ਭਾਸ਼ਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਬਲਕਿ ਅਮਗਰੇਜੀ ਵਿਚ ਜੋ ਗਿਆਨ ਸਾਡੇ ਤੇ ਥੋਪਿਆਂ ਜਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ਅਸਲ ਲੜਾਈ ਉਸ ਨਾਲ ਹੈ।ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਅੰਗਰੇਜੀ ਗਿਆਨ ਦੀ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਆਪਣੇ ਵਸ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਵਿਰਤੀ ਨੇ ਸਾਡਾ ਸੱਭਿਆਚਾਰ, ਵਾਤਾਵਰਨ ਅਤੇ ਕੁਦਰਤ ਆਦਿ ਨਾਲ ਰਿਸ਼ਤੇ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਗਾੜ ਕੇ ਰੱਖ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ।
ਇਸ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਵਿਦਾਇਗੀ ਸ਼ੈਸ਼ਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕ ਦੇਵ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ, ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਸਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਅੰਗਰੇਜ਼ੀ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰੋਫ਼ੈਸਰ ਪਰਮਿੰਦਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੇ ਕਾਨਫਰੰਸ ਬਾਰੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਬਹੁਤ ਵਿਸਤਰਿਤ ਰਿਪੋਰਟ ਪੇਸ਼ ਕੀਤੀ ਅਤੇ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਇੱਕ ਸਫਲ ਕਾਨਫਰੰਸ ਦੱਸਿਆ। ਪਰਵਾਸੀ ਪੰਜਾਬੀਆਂ ਪ੍ਰੋਫ਼ੈਸਰ ਨਵਤੇਜ ਭਾਰਤੀ, ਡਾ. ਅਮਰਜੋਤੀ ਅਤੇ ਦਿੱਲੀ ਤੋਂ ਆਏ ਡਾ. ਜਗਬੀਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੇ ਕਾਨਫਰੰਸ ਸੰਬੰਧੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਅਨੁਭਵ ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਂਝੇ ਕੀਤੇ।
ਕਾਨਫਰੰਸ ਦੇ ਤੀਜੇ ਅਤੇ ਆਖ਼ਰੀ ਦਿਨ ਇੱਕ ਅਕਾਦਮਿਕ ਸ਼ੈਸ਼ਨ 'ਵਿਗਿਆਨ ਅਤੇ ਤਕਨਾਲੋਜੀ ਦੇ ਪਰਿਪੇਖ ਵਿੱਚ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਵਿਕਾਸ ਦੇ ਨਵੇਂ ਪਾਸਾਰ' ਬਾਰੇ ਕਰਵਾਇਆ ਗਿਆ। ਇਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਖੇਤੀਬਾੜੀ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ, ਲੁਧਿਆਣਾ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰੋਫ਼ੈਸਰ ਮਿਲਖਾ ਸਿੰਘ ਔਲਖ ਨੇ 'ਖੇਤੀਬਾੜੀ ਸੰਬੰਧਿਤ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਵਿੱਚ ਖੁਰਾਕੀ ਸੁਰੱਖਿਆ ਦੀ ਤਰੱਕੀ ਅਤੇ ਯੋਗਦਾਨ :
ਚੁਣੌਤੀਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਹੱਲ' ਬਾਰੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਪਰਚਾ ਪੇਸ਼ ਕੀਤਾ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਅੰਕੜਿਆਂ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਕਿ ਖੇਤੀਬਾੜੀ ਦੇ ਵਿਸ਼ੇ ਨਾਲ ਸੰਬੰਧਿਤ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਕੋਰਸਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਪੇਂਡੂ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਖਿਆ ਬਹੁਤ ਘਟ ਗਈ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਲਈ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਉਚੇਚੇ ਯਤਨ ਕਰਨੇ ਚਾਹੀਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਡਾ. ਐਸ. ਪੀ. ਸਿੰਘ, ਡੀਨ, ਲਾਈਫ ਸਾਇੰਸਜ਼, ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ, ਪਟਿਆਲਾ ਨੇ 'ਨੋਬਲ ਇਨਾਮ ਵਿਜੇਤਾ ਰਾਬਰਟ ਐਡਵਰਡਜ਼ ਅਤੇ ਟੈਸਟ ਟਿਊਬ ਬੇਬੀ' ਵਿਸ਼ੇ 'ਤੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਪਰਚਾ ਪੇਸ਼ ਕੀਤਾ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਕਿ ਭਾਵੇਂ ਇਸ ਤਕਨੀਕ ਨਾਲ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਟੈਸਟ ਟਿਊਬ ਬੇਬੀ ੨੫ ਜੁਲਾਈ ੧੯੭੮ ਨੂੰ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ, ਪਰੰਤੂ ਇਸ ਤੋਂ ਮਗਰੋਂ ਇਸ ਤਕਨੀਕ ਵਿਚ ਹੋਏ ਵਿਕਾਸ ਸਦਕਾ ਹੁਣ ਤੱਕ ਸਾਰੇ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਵਿਚ ੪੦ ਲੱਖ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਧ ਟੈਸਟ ਟਿਊਬ ਬੇਬੀ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋ ਚੁੱਕੇ ਹਨ। ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ, ਪਟਿਆਲਾ ਦੇ ਹੀ ਡਾਕਟਰ ਜਗਬੀਰ
ਸਿੰਘ, ਪ੍ਰੋਫ਼ਸਰ, ਜੁਆਲੋਜੀ ਵਿਭਾਗ, ਨੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਪਰਚਾ 'ਵਾਤਾਵਰਣ ਦੀਆਂ ਸਮੱਸਿਆਵਾਂ ਤੇ ਸਮਾਧਾਨ' ਵਿਸ਼ੇ 'ਤੇ ਪੇਸ਼ ਕੀਤਾ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਕਿ ਮਨੁੱਖੀ ਅਣਗਹਿਲੀਆਂ ਕਰਕੇ ਵਾਤਾਵਰਣ ਨੂੰ ਬਹੁਤ ਢਾਅ ਲੱਗ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ, ਇਸ ਲਈ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਚੇਤੰਨ ਹੋਣਾ ਪਵੇਗਾ।
ਸ. ਕਿਰਪਾਲ ਸਿੰਘ ਪੰਨੂ ਨੇ 'ਕੰਪਿਊਟਰ ਤਕਨਾਲੋਜੀ ਦੇ ਖੇਤਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਵਿਕਾਸ ਦੇ ਨਵੇਂ ਪਾਸਾਰ' ਵਿਸ਼ੇ ਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਰੱਖੇ। ਇਹ ਸਾਰੇ ਪਰਚੇ ਪ੍ਰੋਜੈਕਟਰ 'ਤੇ
ਸਲਾਈਡਾਂ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਪੇਸ਼ ਕੀਤੇ ਗਏ।
ਇਸ ਸੈਸ਼ਨ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਧਾਨਗੀ ਡਾ. ਮਲਕੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਸੈਣੀ, ਸਾਬਕਾ ਮੁਖੀ, ਜੁਆਲੋਜੀ ਵਿਭਾਗ, ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ, ਪਟਿਆਲਾ ਨੇ ਕੀਤੀ।
ਡਾ. ਅਮਰਜੀਤ ਕੌਰ, ਮੁਖੀ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਭਾਸ਼ਾ ਵਿਕਾਸ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਨੇ ਮਹਿਮਾਨਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਵਿਦੇਸ਼ੀ ਡੈਲੀਗੇਟਾਂ ਦਾ ਸਨਮਾਨ ਵਿਭਾਗੀ ਪੁਸਤਕਾਂ ਦੇ ਸੈØੱਟ ਅਤੇ ਸ਼ਾਲ ਦੇ ਕੇ ਕੀਤਾ। ਡਾ. ਇੰਦਰ ਮੋਹਨ ਸਿੰਘ, ਡੀਨ ਭਾਸ਼ਾਵਾਂ, ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ, ਪਟਿਆਲਾ ਵਲੋਂ ਕਾਨਫਰੰਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਸ਼ਮੂਲੀਅਤ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਸਮੂਹ ਵਿਦਵਾਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਧੰਨਵਾਦ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ।

Dr Bansal of Pbi varsity gets major research project

Patiala, Feb 2- Dr. Rupinder Kaur Bansal, Senior Lecturer in the Department of Human Biology, Punjabi University, Patiala, has received financial assistance of Rs. 10,300,800 from the UGC, New Delhi, to work on a Major Research Project entitled “Genetic Polymorphism of Selected Candidate Genes among Alcoholic Jat Sikhs of Punjab”.
The project has been assigned to Dr Bansal to focus on vibrant state of Punjab that had ushered in the green revolution and is today living in a dazed stupor, as 67% of its rural household has at least one drug addict/alcoholic. The present molecular study would generate information on the role of four candidate genes viz., ALDH2, ADH2, DRD1 and DRD2 in alcohol metabolism.
According to Dr Bansal the measurement of genetic susceptibility to alcoholism would be valuable in the early identification of individuals at increased risk for alcohol dependence and prevention of this dreadful menace. By gaining a better knowledge of genes involved in initiation, maintenance and cessation of alcohol dependence we would provide novel prevention and treatment possibilities. The findings would go a long way in formulating strategies for preventing alcohol related health hazards and holding counseling sessions for these patients, Dr Bansal said.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖੀ ਅਤੇ ਉਰਦੂ ਸਾਫ਼ਟਵੇਅਰ ਵਿਕਸਿਤ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲੀ 105 ਲੱਖ ਰੁਪਏ ਦੀ ਗਰਾਂਟ ਬਾਰੇ

ਪਟਿਆਲਾ, 2 ਫਰਵਰੀ: ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਭਾਸ਼ਾ, ਸਾਹਿੱਤ ਅਤੇ ਸਭਿਆਚਾਰ ਦੇ ਵਿਕਾਸ ਲਈ ਕੰਮ ਕਰ ਰਹੇ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਦੇ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਭਾਸ਼ਾ, ਸਾਹਿੱਤ ਅਤੇ ਸਭਿਆਚਾਰ ਦੇ ਤਕਨੀਕੀ ਵਿਕਾਸ ਦੇ ਉੱਚਤਮ ਕੇਂਦਰ ਨੂੰ ਸੂਚਨਾ ਤਕਨਾਲੋਜੀ ਅਤੇ ਸੰਚਾਰ ਮੰਤਰਾਲੇ ਦੇ ਪੱਤਰ ਨੰ. 11(19)/2010-ਐਚ.ਸੀ.ਸੀ. (TDIL) ਰਾਹੀਂ 105 ਲੱਖ ਰੁਪਏ ਦੀ ਗਰਾਂਟ ਜਾਰੀ ਕੀਤੀ ਗਈ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਰਾਸ਼ੀ ਨੂੰ ਦੁਭਾਸ਼ੀ ਰੋਮਨ-ਗੁਰਮੁਖੀ ਅਤੇ ਉਰਦੂ ਦਸਤਾਵੇਜ਼ਾਂ ਦੇ ਓ.ਸੀ.ਆਰ. ਦੇ ਵਿਕਾਸ ਲਈ ਖ਼ਰਚਿਆ ਜਾਵੇਗਾ। ਇਹ ਪ੍ਰਾਜੈਕਟ ਤਿੰਨ ਸਾਲਾਂ ਦਾ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ। ਉੱਚਤਮ ਕੇਂਦਰ ਦੇ ਡਾਇਰੈਕਟਰ ਡਾ. ਗੁਰਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਲਹਿਲ ਇਸ ਪ੍ਰਾਜੈਕਟ ਦੇ ਕੋਆਰਡੀਨੇਟਰ ਹੋਣਗੇ ਜਿਹੜੇ ਇਸ ਤੋਂ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦਾ ਪਹਿਲਾ ਗੁਰਮੁਖੀ ਓ.ਸੀ.ਆਰ ਵਿਕਸਤ ਕਰ ਚੁੱਕੇ ਹਨ। ਇਹ ਪ੍ਰਾਜੈਕਟ ਭਾਰਤ ਦੀਆਂ ਪ੍ਰਮੁੱਖ 14 ਸੰਸਥਾਵਾਂ (ਆਈ.ਆਈ.ਟੀ. ਦਿੱਲੀ, ਆਈ.ਆਈ.ਟੀ. ਬੰਬਈ, ਆਈ.ਆਈ.ਟੀ. ਖੜਗਪੁਰ, ਆਈ.ਆਈ.ਟੀ. ਗੁਹਾਟੀ, ਆਈ.ਆਈ.ਆਈ.ਟੀ. ਹੈਦਰਾਬਾਦ, ਆਈ.ਐਸ.ਆਈ. ਕਲਕੱਤਾ, ਸੀ.ਡੈਕ ਅਤੇ ਆਈ.ਆਈ.ਐਸ.ਸੀ ਬੰਗਲੌਰ) ਦੇ ਸਹਿਯੋਗ ਨਾਲ ਸੰਪੰਨ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾਵੇਗਾ। ਡਾ ਲਹਿਲ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਇਹ ਪਹਿਲਾ ਉਰਦੂ ਓ.ਸੀ.ਆਰ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ। ਓ.ਸੀ.ਆਰ ਦੇ ਨੁਕਤਾ-ਨਜ਼ਰ ਤੋਂ ਉਰਦੂ ਇੱਕ ਚੁਨੌਤੀ ਭਰਪੂਰ ਲਿਪੀ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਅੱਖਰ ਅਤੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਗ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਆਪਣਾ ਰੂਪ ਬਦਲ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਲੋੜ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਜੋੜਨੇ ਪੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ। ਉਰਦੂ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਬੈਠਵੀਂ ਅਤੇ ਖੜ੍ਹਵੀਂ ਦੋਹੇਂ ਦਿਸ਼ਾਵਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਵੱਧਦੇ-ਫੁੱਲਦੇ ਹਨ। ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਤਿਆਰ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ ਗੁਰਮੁਖੀ ਓ.ਸੀ.ਆਰ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਗੁਰਮੁਖੀ ਚਿੰਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਨਾਖ਼ਤ ਕਰਦਾ ਸੀ ਪਰ ਇਹ ਗੁਰਮੁਖੀ ਰੋਮਨ ਦੁਭਾਸ਼ੀ ਓ.ਸੀ.ਆਰ ਸਾਫ਼ਟਵੇਅਰ ਵਰਤੋਂਕਾਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰਮੁਖੀ ਅਤੇ ਰੋਮਨ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਚਿੰਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਨਾਖ਼ਤ ਕਰਨ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਨਾਲ ਪੁਸਤਕਾਂ ਤੇ ਦਸਤਾਵੇਜ਼ਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਬਿਨਾ ਟਾਈਪ ਕੀਤਿਆਂ
ਡਿਜੀਟਾਈਜ਼ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਸਹੂਲਤ ਪ੍ਰਦਾਨ ਕਰੇਗਾ। ਇਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਉਰਦੂ ਓ.ਸੀ.ਆਰ ਸ਼ਾਹਮੁਖੀ ਅਤੇ ਉਰਦੂ ਦਸਤਾਵੇਜ਼ਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਡਿਜੀਟਾਈਜ਼ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਸਹੂਲਤ ਮੁਹੱਈਆ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਸਮੇਂ ਅਤੇ ਪੈਸੇ ਦੀ ਬੱਚਤ ਵੀ ਕਰਵਾਏਗਾ।
ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਦੇ ਵਾਈਸ ਚਾਂਸਲਰ ਡਾ ਜਸਪਾਲ ਸਿੰਘ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਭਾਸ਼ਾ, ਸਾਹਿੱਤ ਅਤੇ ਸਭਿਆਚਾਰ ਦੇ ਤਕਨੀਕੀ ਵਿਕਾਸ ਲਈ ਬਣਿਆ ਉੱਚਤਮ ਕੇਂਦਰ ਗੁਰਮੁਖੀ ਅਤੇ ਉਰਦੂ ਸਾਫ਼ਟਵੇਅਰ ਵਿਕਸਿਤ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਭਾਰਤ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਮੁੱਖ ਖੋਜ-ਕੇਂਦਰਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਆਪਣਾ ਮੋਹਰੀ ਮੁਕਾਮ ਬਣਾ ਚੁੱਕਾ ਹੈ। ਗੁਰਮੁਖੀ ਅਤੇ ਉਰਦੂ ਲਿਪੀ ਨਾਲ ਸਬੰਧਿਤ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਦੇ ਸੱਤ ਵੱਡੇ ਅੰਤਰਰਾਸ਼ਟਰੀ ਅਤੇ ਰਾਸ਼ਟਰੀ ਖੋਜ-ਪ੍ਰਾਜੈਕਟ ਸਫਲਤਾਪੂਰਵਕ ਸੰਪੰਨ ਕੀਤੇ ਜਾ ਚੁੱਕੇ ਹਨ। ਵਿਭਾਗ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਤਿਆਰ ਕੀਤੇ ਗਏ ਕੁੱਝ ਪ੍ਰਾਜੈਕਟ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਅਧਿਆਪਨ ਦੀ ਵੈੱਬਸਾਈਟ, ਗੁਰਮੁਖੀ, ਸ਼ਾਹਮੁਖੀ, ਉਰਦੂ ਅਤੇ ਦੇਵਨਾਗਰੀ ਦਾ ਲਿਪੀਅੰਤਰਨ, ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਖੋਜ (ਸਰਚ ਇੰਜਨ), ਗੁਰਮੁਖੀ ਯੂਨੀਕੋਡ ਟਾਈਪਿੰਗ ਪੈਡ ਅਤੇ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਵਿਆਕਰਨ ਨਿਰੀਖਕ ਆਦਿ ਆਮ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦੀ ਸਹੂਲਤ ਲਈ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਦੀ ਵੈੱਬਸਾਈਟ ਤੇ ਉਪਲਬਧ ਹਨ।

Punjabi University bags Rs 105 lakhs research project for the development of Gurmukhi and Urdu softwares

Patiala, Feb 2- The Punjabi University’s Advanced Centre for the Technical Development of Punjabi (ACTDP) has achieved another landmark with Ministry of Communications and Information Technology allocating a grant of Rs. 105 lakhs for the development of bilingual Roman-Gurmukhi and Urdu optical character recognition (OCR) systems. The project is for three years and Dr. Gurpreet Singh Lehal, the Director of the Centre, who already has to his credit the first Gurmukhi OCR, is the coordinator of the project. The project will be implemented in Consortium mode in collaboration with 14 premier institutes in India including IIT Delhi, IIT Bombay, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Gauhati, IIIT Hyderabad, ISI Calcutta, CDAC and IISC Bangalore.

According to Dr. Jaspal Singh, Vice Chancellor, the ACTDP has established itself as one of the leading Research Centres in India for development of Gurmukhi and Urdu softwares, having successfully implemented seven major International and National research projects related to Gurmukhi and Urdu scripts. Some of the completed projects which are freely available for mass use on the Centre’s website include website for Punjabi teaching, transliteration between Gurmukhi, Shahmukhi, Urdu, and Devnagri scripts, customized Punjabi search engine, Unicode Punjabi typing pad and Punjabi grammar checker, he said.

According to Dr. Lehal, this is the first time that an Urdu OCR will be developed. From OCR point of view, Urdu is one of the most challenging scripts as the character and word shape changes according to context and usually the characters are joined together even as the word grows both in horizontal and vertical direction. The project involves the development of a bilingual Gurmukhi-Roman OCR system, which will recognize both Gurmukhi and Roman words and will enable the user to digitize existing books and documents containing Gurmukhi and Roman scripts, without actually typing the contents. Similarly, the Urdu OCR will enable Shahmukhi and Urdu documents to be converted to electronic format for use in document processing applications, without the need to retype them again. This will result in huge saving of time and money for conversion of Punjabi and Urdu documents from paper format to digital form.

ਪਟਿਆਲਾ, ੦੧ ਫਰਵਰੀ-ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਦੇ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਭਾਸ਼ਾ ਵਿਕਾਸ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਵਲੋਂ ਕਰਵਾਈ ਜਾ ਰਹੀ ੨੭ਵੀਂ ਅੰਤਰਰਾਸ਼ਟਰੀ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਵਿਕਾਸ ਕਾਨਫਰੰਸ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਪਹਿਲੇ ਅਕਾਦਮਿਕ ਸੈਸ਼ਨ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਦੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਭਾਸ਼ਾ ਸਾਹਿਤ ਅਤੇ ਸਭਿਆਚਾਰ ਵਿਸ਼ੇ 'ਤੇ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਚਰਚਾ ਹੋਈ।ਇਸ ਸੰਬੰਧ ਵਿਚ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਨਵਤੇਜ ਭਾਰਤੀ ਸ੍ਰੀਮਤੀ ਅਮਰਜੋਤੀ ਅਤੇ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਵਰਿਆਮ ਸਿੰਘ ਸੰਧੂ ਨੇ ਪਰਵਾਸ ਬਾਰੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਅਨੁਭਵ ਸਾਂਝੇ ਕੀਤੇ। ਇਸ ਸੈਸ਼ਨ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਧਾਨਗੀ ਡਾ. ਐੱਸ. ਪੀ. ਸਿੰਘ, ਸਾਬਕਾ ਵਾਈਸ-ਚਾਂਸਲਰ, ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕ ਦੇਵ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ, ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਸਰ ਨੇ ਕੀਤੀ।
ਦੂਜੇ ਅਕਾਦਮਿਕ ਸੈਸ਼ਨ ਵਿਚ ਡਾ. ਮਦਨ ਗੋਪਾਲ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੇ ਫਿਲਮਾਂ ਬਾਰੇ, ਪ੍ਰੋਫ਼ੈਸਰ ਸੁਖਦੇਵ ਸਿੰਘ ਸਿਰਸਾ ਨੇ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਨਾਰੀ ਕਾਵਿ ਸਮਕਾਲ ਦੇ ਸੰਦਰਭ ਵਿਚ ਅਤੇ ਪਰਮਜੀਤ ਰਮਾਣਾ ਨੇ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਸਾਹਿਤ ਦੇ ਅੰਗਰੇਜ਼ੀ ਅਨੁਵਾਦ ਬਾਰੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਪਰਚੇ ਪ੍ਰਸਤੁਤ ਕੀਤੇ। ਇਸ ਸੈਸ਼ਨ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਧਾਨਗੀ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਸਾਹਿਤ ਅਕਾਦਮੀ, ਲੁਧਿਆਣਾ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਧਾਨ ਡਾ. ਗੁਰਭਜਨ ਸਿੰਘ ਗਿੱਲ ਨੇ ਕੀਤੀ। ਇਸੇ ਸ਼ਾਮ ਹੋਏ ਸਭਿਆਚਾਰਕ ਪ੍ਰੋਗਰਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਸਿੱਧ ਗਾਇਕ ਹਰਭਜਨ ਮਾਨ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਫ਼ਨ ਦਾ ਮੁਜ਼ਾਹਰਾ ਕੀਤਾ। ਇਸ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਧਾਨਗੀ ਪ੍ਰਸਿੱਧ ਰੰਗਕਰਮੀ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਮਦਨ ਗੋਪਾਲ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੇ ਕੀਤੀ।
ਕਾਨਫਰੰਸ ਦੇ ਦੂਜੇ ਦਿਨ ਤਿੰਨ ਸੈਸ਼ਨ ਹੋਏ, ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਪਹਿਲੇ ਅਕਾਦਮਿਕ ਸੈਸ਼ਨ ਵਿਚ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਭਾਸ਼ਾ, ਲੋਕਧਾਰਾ ਅਤੇ ਸੱਭਿਆਚਾਰ ਦੇ ਵਿਸ਼ੇ ਬਾਰੇ ਤਿੰਨ ਪੇਪਰ ਪੜ੍ਹੇ ਗਏ। ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਭਾਸ਼ਾ ਦੀ ਸਥਿਤੀ ਤੇ ਸੰਭਾਵਨਾਵਾਂ ਬਾਰੇ ਪ੍ਰੋ. ਜੋਗਾ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਪਰਚਾ ਪੇਸ਼ ਕੀਤਾ। ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਦੇ ਖੇਤਰ ਵਿਚ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਦੇ ਘਟ ਰਹੇ ਰੁਝਾਨ ਬਾਰੇ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਪ੍ਰਗਟ ਕੀਤੀ। ਪ੍ਰੋ. ਹਰਿੰਦਰ ਕੌਰ ਸੋਹੀ ਨੇ ਸਮਾਜ ਨਿਰਮਾਣ ਵਿਚ ਔਰਤ ਦੀ ਮੁਕੰਮਲ ਦੇਣ, ਅਧੂਰੀ ਮਾਨਤਾ : ਨਵੇਂ ਦ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀਕੋਣ ਦੀ ਲੋੜ ਵਿਸ਼ੇ 'ਤੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਪਰਚਾ ਪੇਸ਼ ਕੀਤਾ। ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੋਵਾਂ ਪਰਚਿਆਂ ਬਾਰੇ ਭਰਪੂਰ ਅਤੇ ਭਖਵੀਂ ਬਹਿਸ ਹੋਈ। ਪ੍ਰੋ. ਸੁਖਵਿੰਦਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਸੰਘਾ ਨੇ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਰਜੀ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਦੇ ਵਿਕਾਸ ਦੀ ਸਥਿਤੀ ਤੇ ਸੰਭਾਵਨਾਵਾਂ ਵਿਸ਼ੇ ਸੰਬੰਧੀ ਆਪਣਾ ਪਰਚਾ ਪੜਿਆ। ਇਸ ਸੈਸ਼ਨ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਧਾਨਗੀ ਡਾ. ਸੁਰਜੀਤ ਲੀ ਨੇ ਕੀਤੀ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਪ੍ਰਧਾਨਗੀ ਭਾਸ਼ਣ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰੋ. ਜੋਗਾ ਸਿੰਘ ਅਤੇ ਪ੍ਰੋ. ਹਰਿੰਦਰ ਕੌਰ ਸੋਹੀ ਦੇ ਪਰਚਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਏਜੰਡਾ ਪੱਤਰ ਦਾ ਨਾਂ ਦਿੱਤਾ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਦੋਵੇਂ ਪਰਚਿਆਂ ਵਿਚ ਇਕ ਸਥਾਪਤ ਸਿਸਟਮ ਨੂੰ ਚੈਲੰਜ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਉਸ ਬਾਰੇ ਭਖਵੀਂ ਬਹਿਸ ਦਾ ਜਨਮ ਹੋਣਾ ਜ਼ਰੂਰੀ ਹੈ।
ਦੂਜੇ ਸੈਸ਼ਨ ਵਿਚ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਮੈਟਾ ਆਲੋਚਨਾ ਅਤੀਤ ਅਤੇ ਵਰਤਮਾਨ ਵਿਸ਼ੇ 'ਤੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਪਰਚੇ ਵਿਚ ਡਾ. ਹਰਭਜਨ ਸਿੰਘ ਭਾਟੀਆ ਨੇ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਕਿ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਆਲੋਚਨਾ ਨੇ ਕਈ ਭ੍ਰਾਂਤੀਆਂ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਸਾਹਿਤ ਬਾਰੇ ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤੀਆਂ ਹਨ ਇਸ ਲਈ ਆਲੋਚਨਾ ਦੀ ਆਲੋਚਨਾ ਕਰਨ ਸਮੇਂ ਦੀ ਲੋੜ ਬਣ ਗਈ ਹੈ। ਮੀਡੀਆ ਦੀ ਭੂਮਿਕਾ : ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਭਾਸ਼ਾ, ਸਾਹਿਤ ਤੇ ਸਭਿਆਚਾਰ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਸ਼ੇ 'ਤੇ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਲਖਵਿੰਦਰ ਜੌਹਲ ਨੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਪਰਚਾ ਪੜਿਆ। ਲੋਕ ਸੰਗੀਤ ਪਰੰਪਰਾ ਬਾਰੇ ਡਾ. ਜਸਬੀਰ ਕੌਰ ਨੇ ਪਰਚਾ ਪੇਸ਼ ਕੀਤਾ। ਇਸ ਸੈਸ਼ਨ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਧਾਨਗੀ ਡਾ. ਦੀਪਕ ਮਨਮੋਹਨ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੇ ਕੀਤੀ।
ਬਾਅਦ ਦੁਪਹਿਰ ਤੀਜੇ ਅਕਾਦਮਿਕ ਸੈਸ਼ਨ ਵਿਚ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਭਾਸ਼ਾ ਵਿਕਾਸ ਦੇ ਨਵੇਂ ਪਾਸਾਰ ਵਿਸ਼ੇ 'ਤੇ ਪੈਨਲ ਡਿਸਕਸ਼ਨ ਕੀਤੀ ਗਈ। ਜਿਸ ਵਿਚ ਵੱਖ-ਵੱਖ ਅਨੁਸਾਸ਼ਨਾਂ ਵਿਗਿਆਨ, ਕਲਾ, ਸਮਾਜਿਕ ਵਿਗਿਆਨ ਤੇ ਆਰਥਿਕਤਾ ਨਾਲ ਸੰਬੰਧਿਤ ਵਿਦਵਾਨ ਸ਼ਾਮਿਲ ਹੋਏ। ਇਸ ਵਿਚ ਜੁਆਲੌਜੀ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਦੇ ਸਾਬਕਾ ਮੁਖੀ ਡਾ. ਸੁਰਜੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਢਿੱਲੋਂ, ਡਾ. ਸੁਰਜੀਤ ਲੀ, ਚਿੰਤਕ ਡਾ. ਜਗਬੀਰ ਸਿੰਘ, ਪੰਜਾਬ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ, ਚੰਡੀਗੜ੍ਹ ਦੇ ਅੰਗਰੇਜ਼ੀ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰੋਫ਼ੈਸਰ ਡਾ. ਰਾਣਾ ਨਈਅਰ, ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕ ਦੇਵ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ, ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਸਰ ਤੋਂ ਆਏ ਸਮਾਜ ਵਿਗਿਆਨੀ ਡਾ. ਪਰਮਜੀਤ ਜੱਜ, ਜਰਨਲਿਜ਼ਮ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰੋਫ਼ੈਸਰ ਡਾ. ਨਰਿੰਦਰ ਕਪੂਰ ਤੇ ਸਿੱਖ ਧਰਮ ਦੇ ਚਿੰਤਕ ਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਸਿੱਧ ਵਿਦਵਾਨ ਡਾ. ਬਲਕਾਰ ਸਿੰਘ, ਪ੍ਰਸਿੱਧ ਅਰਥ ਵਿਗਿਆਨੀ ਡਾ. ਸੁੱਚਾ ਸਿੰਘ ਗਿੱਲ ਅਤੇ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਹਰੀਸ਼ ਜੈਨ ਨੇ ਭਾਗ ਲਿਆ। ਇਸ ਸੈਸ਼ਨ ਨੂੰ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਸਿੱਧ ਲੋਕਧਾਰਾ ਸ਼ਾਸਤਰੀ ਡਾ. ਸੁਰਜੀਤ ਲੀ ਸਾਬਕਾ ਪ੍ਰੋਫ਼ੈਸਰ, ਭਾਸ਼ਾ ਵਿਗਿਆਨ ਵਿਭਾਗ, ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ, ਪਟਿਆਲਾ ਨੇ ਕੋਆਰਡੀਨੇਟ ਕੀਤਾ। ਵਿਭਾਗ ਦੀ ਮੁਖੀ ਡਾ. ਅਮਰਜੀਤ ਕੌਰ ਨੇ ਸੈਸ਼ਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਭਾਗ ਲੈਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਵਿਦਵਾਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਸੁਆਗਤ ਕੀਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਭਾਗੀ ਪੁਸਤਕਾਂ ਦੇ ਸੈØੱਟ ਭੇਟ ਕਰਕੇ ਸਨਮਾਨਿਤ ਕੀਤਾ।
