"Never write against your conscience": Nayar to students

Patiala, Jan30- Eminent columnist, Mr Kuldip Nayar, while interacting with the students of Journalism and Mass Communication in the Seminar hall of the Department here today advised them "never to go against their conscience while filing their reports." It may look in the beginning that "you are losing the game" but ultimately you will feel satisfied and "gain in the long run" as "you will establish your credibility and integrity which is certainly going to be accepted sooner or later by all concerned." Mr Nayar, being the founder of the Department, expressed his deep satisfaction the way it has "flourished and blossomed into one of the best departments of the region."

While giving useful tips to the students about the profession, he advised them to do "as much reading as possible to be a better than the best journalist." Answering queries from the students, he said that though commercial tendencies were reigning supreme, they having become global phenomena, yet the things are going to come to square one. "Never beat the deadline" is the biggest secret of success in journalism, he added.

Dr Gurmeet Singh Maan, HoD, underlined the progress having been made by the Department during the recent years. 'We are shifting our stance
from training our students simply for the print journalism to equip them fully to be a success any wing of the profession, may it be electronic media , PR, advertising or marketing". He thanked Mr Nayar for having started the Department which is taking great leaps forward with patronage given by the Vice-Chancellor, Dr Jaspal Singh.

Politicians have spoiled Indo-Pak relations: Kuldip Nayar

Patiala, Jan 30- "While politicians have left nothing to chance to spoil the Indo-Pak relations, common cultural contact between the two nations has emerged as the most potent power in sustaining good relations between the countries. Punjabi language has played a pivotal role in generating a coherent Punjabi thought in its wake, unleashing a symbiotic cultural contact which is the need of the present day, particularly when relations between the two countries are reached a flashpoint at least for the while. Both the nations have to understand and appreciate each others limitations, their strong and weak points to decimate the terrorist culture to come up with viable solution to resolve the unfounded ticklish issues causing immense damage to people on both sides of the border".

            This was stated by the eminent journalist, Mr Kuldip Nayar, in his keynote address on the first day of the three-day seminar on "Punjabi Language, Thought and Culture: Development and Evolution" being held at the Senate Hall here today. The seminar is being organised by the Punjabi University's Department of Encyclopaedia of Sikhism in collaboration with Centre for Studies in Civilization (CSC), New Delhi and Centre for Research in Rural and Industrial Development, Chandigarh.

            While advocating free exchange of literature between the two countries,
Mr Nayar said that tension between the two countries has, to great extent hampered the cause of economic development. He also regretted recognition of Punjabi everywhere, including Punjab and proposed to link Punjabi with livelihood of people. Almost everyone is engaged in hypocrisy while talking for the promotion of Punjabi, he added.

            In his presidential address, Vice-Chancellor, Dr Jaspal Singh once again denied the apprehension that Punjabi will vanish into oblivion in the next 50 years as is generally feared. It will never happen till Punjabi University is there as "we are making all out and multi-dimensional efforts for its furtherance and promotion". Though efforts are being made at certain levels to dilute its existence, yet globalization of Punjabi culture is diluting these efforts on the other hand, he said. Punjabi University, he said, is making concerted efforts to prepare a 'complete and existential database' of Punjabi through evaluating, compilation and cataloguing mechanisms. He, nevertheless, urged the Punjabi scholars and litterateurs to be a bit cautious and work hard to beware and counter the strategies and tactics of anti-Punjabi lobbies.

            Professor Bhuvan Chandel, Project Coordinator of the CSC, said that Punjabis have always acted as custodians against any type of attack and onslaught from anywhere and by anybody. They have contributed a lot for promoting brotherhood by spreading the message of welfare of the humanity.

            Dr Jodh Singh, Seminar Director, said that recognizing the significance of Punjabi University's effort in this direction, the Union Ministry of Human Resource Development, through its Centre for Studies in Civilization (CSC) and Centre for Research in Rural and Industrial Development, Chandigarh have extended their collaboration to hold the seminar. A total of 32 research papers will be presented during the seminar on a wide variety of subject areas and themes aimed at "exploring crests and pinnacles touched by prominent stalwarts using Punjabi as the medium of their writings in the fields of culture, religion, folklore, musicology, and social and life sciences"

Workshop on Commerce concludes

Patiala, Jan 29- Workshop on "Application of Statistical Methods in Research", organised by Punjabi University's Department of Commerce laid focus on using latest computer packages to facilitate qualitative research in social sciences.

While presiding over the workshop, which concluded here today, University's Vice-Chancellor, Dr Jaspal Singh said that research should be made socially relevant and more applicable in nature. Further, it should be oriented and inclined more towards unleashing additional and cost-effective benefits for the deprived sections of the society. Latest developments, he said, have made research methodology, tools and techniques more qualitative facilitating utilitarian research.

In his keynote address, Prof M. Altaf Khan, Professor of Commerce and Management at Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi, explained how usage of computers has simplified the application of statistical methods for data analysis making them more effective tools in research. He stressed upon the fact that researchers should develop innovative ideas and get their findings patented for ensuring benefits at a larger scale.

Dr A.K. Seth (Delhi University), Prof Bal Krishan(H.P. University, Shimla), Prof C.R. Darolia (Kurukshetra University), Prof A.K. Vashisht (Panjab University, Chandigarh), Dr J.S. Pasricha and Dr Rajinder kaur(Punjabi University, Patiala) interacted with the students and scholars of commerce from various universities and institutions. Participants were also trained at using SPSS software package for use in research.

Punjabi University to prepare database on Punjabi

Patiala, Jan 28- Punjabi University, Patiala has further expanded its wings keeping in mind to fulfill its statutory obligation of promoting Punjabi in all its dimensions. Having organized first-of-its-kind All-India Punjabi Conference to marks its foundation Day on April 30 last year, it has planned to hold a three-day national seminar on "Punjabi Language, Thought and Culture: Development and Evaluation" from January 30 to February 1 next with the objective of "deciphering the role of Punjabi literature, orthographed especially in gurmukhi script in triggering enrichment of Indian civilization".

While outlining the major objective of the seminar as "exploring crests and pinnacles touched by prominent stalwarts using Punjabi as the
medium of their writings in the fields of culture, religion, folklore, musicology, and social and life sciences", University's Vice-Chancellor, Dr Jaspal Singh said that it would also help in accumulating and constituting a rich database for taking necessary action for expanding the contours of the hoary Punjabi culture.

Dr Jodh Singh, Editor-in-Chief of Encyclopaedia of Sikhism and the Seminar Director, said that recognizing the significance of Punjabi University's effort in this direction, the Union Ministry of Human Resource Development, through its Centre for Studies in Civilization (CSC), New Delhi and Centre for Research in Rural and Industrial Development, Chandigarh have extended their collaboration to hold the seminar. A total of 32 research papers will be presented during the seminar on a wide variety of subject areas and themes oriented towards the main aim of CSC to "take care of main languages of India in which great heritages have been produced".

Prod D.P. Chattopadhyaya, Chairman, CSC, New Delhi, will inaugurate while eminent journalist, Mr Kulidip Nayar will present the keynote address, Dr Jaspal Singh, Vice-Chancellor, will preside over the seminar.

Punjabi University gets big grants flowing

Patiala, Jan 28- Punjabi University, Patiala has been crowned with glory by the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India for the splendid performance by its various departments covered under the faculties of Physical and Life Sciences. Based on strict evaluation of presentations by five Departments of the University, namely, Physics, Pharmaceutica Sciences and Drug Research, Botany, Chemistry and Human Biology, the DST has sanctioned grants worth Rs 2.72 crore under the Funds for Improvement of Science and Technology Infrastructure in Universities and Higher Educational Institutions (FIST) scheme.

While the Department of Physics alone has been extended a grant of Rs 87lakhs, the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Drug Research has been funded with Rs 60 lakhs. The Departments of Botany, Chemistry and Human Biology have received grants worth Rs 50 lakhs, 40 lakhs and 35 lakhs, respectively.

Giving the information, Prof Devinder Singh, Director, Planning and Monitoring of the University, said that this was for the first time that such a large number of Punjabi University departments which have been chosen for releasing such a heavy amount of grant by one of the most prestigious national bodies. The Departments of Physics, Botany and Zoology are already covered under the Special Assistance Programme (SAP), he said.

While congratulating the proud-winner departments, Dr Jaspal Singh, Vice-Chancellor, exhorted the other departments to follow the suit for bringing laurels to the University in its march towards achieving the title of "potential for excellence" as its potential claimant. He also eulogized the role of the departments for having played a significant role in getting highest of "A grade" for the University by UGC's autonomous body, National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) this year for the next five years. Dr Singh further said that the UGC has also 'unprecedentedly' increased its grant to the University by four times.

ਪਿਛਲੇ ਸਮੇਂ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਸਮਾਜਵਾਦੀ ਤੌਰ ਤਰੀਕਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਕੈਪੀਟਲ ਤੌਰ ਤਰੀਕਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਬਦਲ ਜਾਣ ਕਾਰਨ ਭਾਰਤੀ ਸਮਾਜ ਦੇ ਸਮਾਜਿਕ ਅਤੇ ਆਰਥਿਕ ਤੌਰ ਤਰੀਕਿਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਵੱਡਾ ਬਦਲਾਅ ਆਇਆ ਹੈ। ਸੰਸਾਰੀਕਰਨ ਦੇ ਅਜਿਹੇ ਤੌਰ ਤਰੀਕਿਆਂ ਨੇ ਭਾਰਤ ਵਰਗੇ ਵਿਕਸਿਤ ਦੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਰਥਿਕ ਤੌਰ ਤੇ ਬੁਰੀ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵਿਤ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ। ਅਜਿਹੇ ਮਾਰੂ ਮਾਮਲਿਆਂ ਦਾ ਸਮਾਜ ਵਿਗਿਆਨੀ ਹੀ ਨਿਖੇੜਾ ਕਰਕੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਹੱਲ ਕੱਢ ਸਕਦੇ ਹਨ।

ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਿਚਾਰਾਂ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਗਟਾਵਾ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਦੇ ਵਾਈਸ-ਚਾਂਸਲਰ ਡਾ. ਜਸਪਾਲ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੇ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਦੇ ਸੈਨੇਟ ਹਾਲ ਵਿਖੇ ਸੈਂਟਰ ਫਾਰ ਸਾਊਥ ਵੈਸਟ ਏਸ਼ੀਆ ਸਟੱਡੀ ਵਲੋਂ 'ਰਿਸਰਚਿੰਗ ਸਟੈਂਡਰਜ਼ ਐਂਡ ਟੈਕਨੀਕਸ ਫਾਰ ਸਟੱਡੀ ਆਫ ਡਿਵੈਲਪਮੈਟ ਐਟ ਰਿਜਨਲ ਲੈਵਲ' ਵਿਸ਼ੇ ਤੇ ਕਰਵਾਈ ਵਰਕਸ਼ਾਪ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਧਾਨਗੀ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਕੀਤਾ। ਕਿਰਿਆਵੀ ਖੋਜ ਤੇ ਜੋਰ ਦਿੰਦਿਆਂ ਡਾ. ਜਸਪਾਲ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਸਮਾਜ ਵਿਗਿਆਨੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਹੀ ਖੋਜ ਕਰਕੇ ਨੀਤੀ ਘਾੜਿਆਂ ਅੱਗੇ ਰੱਖਣੀ ਚਾਹੀਦੀ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਜੋ ਇਸ ਦਾ ਫਾਇਦਾ ਸਭ ਨੂੰ ਹੋ ਸਕੇ।

ਕੈਸਵਾਸ ਦੇ ਕੋਆਰਡੀਨੇਟਰ ਡਾ. ਸੁੱਚਾ ਸਿੰਘ ਗਿੱਲ ਨੇ ਇਸ ਮੌਕੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਸਮਾਜ ਵਿਗਿਆਨੀ ਅਸਲ ਅੰਕੜੇ ਇਕੱਠੇ ਕਰਕੇ ਆਰਥਿਕਤਾ ਦੀ ਸਹੀ ਤਸਵੀਰ ਪੇਸ਼ ਕਰ ਸਕਦੇ ਹਨ। ਸਮਾਜਿਕ ਖੋਜ ਨੂੰ ਕੁਦਰਤੀ ਖੋਜ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਜਿਆਦਾ ਲਾਭਕਾਰੀ ਦੱਸਦਿਆਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਇਹ ਸਿੱਧੇ ਤੌਰ ਤੇ ਸਮਾਜ ਨਾਲ ਜੁੜੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਅੰਤਰ-ਅਨੁਸ਼ਾਸਨੀ ਅਤੇ ਅਮਲੀ ਖੋਜ ਤੇ ਜੋਰ ਦਿੰਦਿਆਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਇਹ ਜਾਣਕਾਰੀ ਦੀ ਵਿਭਿੰਨਤਾ ਵੱਲ ਪ੍ਰੇਰਿਤ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ।

ਇੰਡੀਅਨ ਐਸੋਸੀਏਸ਼ਨ ਆਫ ਸੋਸ਼ਲ ਸਾਇੰਸ ਇੰਸਟੀਚਿਊਟਸ, ਨਵੀਂ ਦਿੱਲੀ ਦੇ ਮੈਂਬਰ ਸੈਕਟਰੀ ਡਾ. ਏ.ਕੇ. ਦਾਸ ਗੁਪਤਾ ਨੇ ਸਮਾਜ ਵਿਗਿਆਨੀ ਗਤੀਵਿਧੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਮੁੜ ਤੋਂ ਉਸਾਰਨ ਅਤੇ ਪੁਨਰ ਸੁਰਜੀਤ ਕਰਨ ਤੇ ਜੋਰ ਦਿੰਦਿਆਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਖੋਜ ਦੀ ਗੁਣਵੱਤਾ ਦੀ ਘਾਟ ਕਾਰਨ ਇਹ ਆਪਣਾ ਮਹੱਤਵ ਖੋ ਰਹੀਆਂ ਹਨ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਖੋਜ ਦੇ ਅਜਿਹੇ ਨਤੀਜਿਆਂ ਤੇ ਵੀ ਅਫਸੋਸ ਜਤਾਇਆ ਜੋ ਸਮਾਜ ਦੇ ਵੱਡੇ ਹਿੱਤਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਵਰਤੇ ਜਾ ਸਕਦੇ। ਇਸ ਮੌਕੇ ਅਰਥ ਵਿਗਿਆਨ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰੋਫੈਸਰਾਂ ਡਾ. ਆਰ.ਐਸ. ਘੁੰਮਣ ਅਤੇ ਡਾ. ਇੰਦਰਜੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੇ ਵੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਪੇਸ਼ ਕੀਤੇ।

ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਦੇ ਵਾਈਸ-ਚਾਂਸਲਰ ਡਾ. ਜਸਪਾਲ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੇ ਦੇਸ਼ ਦੇ 60ਵੇਂ ਗਣਤੰਤਰ ਦਿਹਾੜੇ ਮੌਕੇ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਵਿਖੇ ਝੰਡਾ ਲਹਿਰਾਇਆ। ਇਸ ਮੌਕੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਸੰਬੋਧਨ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਅਧਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਨਾਲ ਫਰਜਾਂ ਦੀ ਵੀ ਅਦਾਇਗੀ ਕਰਨੀ ਚਾਹੀਦੀ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਜੋ ਅਸੀਂ ਵਧੀਆ ਸਮਾਜ ਅਤੇ ਰਾਸ਼ਟਰ ਦਾ ਨਿਰਮਾਣ ਕਰ ਸਕੀਏ। ਇਸ ਤੋਂ ਇਲਾਵਾ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਨੂੰ ਹੋਰ ਬੁਲੰਦੀਆਂ ਤੇ ਲਿਜਾਉਣ ਦੀ ਗੱਲ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਭਾਵੇਂ
ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਮੁਲਾਜ਼ਮ ਪੂਰੀ ਤਨਦੇਹੀ ਨਾਲ ਕੰਮ ਕਰ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ, ਪਰ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਨੂੰ ਅੰਤਰ-ਰਾਸ਼ਟਰੀ ਪ੍ਰਸਿੱਧੀ ਦਿਵਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਹੋਰ ਕਰੜੀ ਮਿਹਨਤ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਲੋੜ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਤੋਂ ਇਲਾਵਾ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਤੋਂ ਕੋਈ ਡਿਗਰੀ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਨੂੰ ਹੁਣ ਲਾਜਮੀ ਤੌਰ ਤੇ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਪਾਸ ਹੋਣਾ ਪਵੇਗਾ ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਨੇ ਐਮ.ਫਿਲ. ਵਿੱਚ ਵੀ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਪਾਸ ਕਰਨਾ ਲਾਜਮੀ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ।

ਇਸ ਮੌਕੇ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਦੇ ਰਜਿਸਟਰਾਰ ਡਾ. ਸੁਖਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਸਿੰਘ ਖਹਿਰਾ ਨੇ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਵਲੋਂ ਖੇਡਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਅਕਾਦਮਿਕ ਖੇਤਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਕੀਤੀਆਂ ਤਰੱਕੀਆਂ ਬਾਰੇ ਚਾਨਣਾ ਪਾਇਆ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਕਿ ਅਧਿਆਪਨ ਅਤੇ ਗੈਰ-ਅਧਿਆਪਨ ਵਰਗ ਨੂੰ ਕਾਫੀ ਤਰੱਕੀਆਂ ਦਿੱਤੀਆਂ ਗਈਆਂ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਕਈ ਅਜਿਹੇ ਖੇਤਰਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਵੀ ਤਰੱਕੀ ਚੈਨਲ ਬਣਾਏ ਜਾ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ ਜਿਥੇ ਤਰੱਕੀ ਦਾ ਕੋਈ ਚੈਨਲ\ ਨਹੀਂ। ਇਸ ਮੌਕੇ ਹੋਰਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਇਲਾਵਾ ਡੀਨ ਅਕਾਦਮਿਕ ਡਾ. ਐਮ.ਐਸ. ਸੈਣੀ, ਡੀਨ ਖੋਜ ਡਾ. ਸੁੱਚਾ ਸਿੰਘ ਗਿੱਲ, ਡੀਨ ਕਾਲਜ ਵਿਕਾਸ ਕੌਂਸਲ ਡਾ. ਮਨਜੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਅਤੇ ਡੀਨ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀ ਭਲਾਈ ਡਾ. ਕੁਲਬੀਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੇ ਵੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਪੇਸ਼ ਕੀਤੇ।

Republic day celebrated

Patiala, Jan 27- Dr Jaspal Singh, Vice-Chancellor of Punjabi University, unfurled the national flag on the occasion of the 60th Republic Day on the University campus here yesterday. He also shared his views regarding future plans of the University in its march towards excellence. Dr M.S. Saini, Dean, Academic Affairs, Dr Manjit Singh, Dean, Colleges, Dr S.S. Gill, Dean, Research, Dr S.S. Khehra, Registrar and Dr K.S. Dhillon, Dean, Students Welfare also spoke on the occasion.

Meeting point between 'commercialisation of ethics and socialisation of benefits' suggested

Patiala, Jan 27- "Indian society has witnessed massive and mammoth socio-economic changes in recent times, with socialistic patterns opening up to the bare realities of capitalist market. This ongoing trend of changes has led to global economic recession with developing countries, including India having adversely affected by it. Only social scientists can identify, analyse and provide viable solutions to these serious issues plaguing the society."

            This was stated by Dr Jaspal Singh, Vice-Chancellor of Punjabi University, while presiding over a workshop on "Researching Standards and Techniques for Study of Development at Regional Level" organised by the Centre for South-West Asia Study (CSWAS) here today. He advised for carving out some meeting point between 'commercialization of ethics and socialization of benefits', generating a balanced economy that could help both the individual and the society. While laying emphasis upon conducting action research, he said that the findings of social science research should suggest corrective measures to the policy makers before their benefits reaching all the stakeholders. Vast changes in economic regime, Dr Singh said, have even reversed various slogans from "Quit India" to "Welcome to India", "Swadeshi" to "Free inputs", "Subsidised education and health" to "Pay and get it", leading to the emergence of a new concept of " Socialise the cost and privatize the appropriation of benefits".

            Dr Sucha Singh Gill, Coordinator of the CSWAS, said that social scientists can play a big role in creating original database for knowledge economy that could help in changing the 'theory of diminishing returns' into 'theory of increasing returns'. He rated social research as more beneficial to society as compared to natural research as it was directly oriented towards societal benefits. He also laid emphasis upon inter-disciplinary and empirical research aimed at diversification of knowledge.

            Dr AK Dasgupta, Member Secretary of the Indian Association of Social Science Institutions, New Delhi, emphasized upon restructuring and reforming social science activities as they were losing significance in the absence of qualitative research. He regretted the infrequent dissemination of significant findings of research that could be utilized for the used in the larger interests of the society. Dr R.S. Ghuman and Inderjit Singh, Professors in the Economics Department also spoke on the occasion.

ਪਟਿਆਲਾ, 23 ਜਨਵਰੀ-

ਸ਼੍ਰੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਗ੍ਰੰਥ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਵਿੱਚ ਦਰਜ ਬਾਣੀ ਦਾ ਮੁੱਖ ਮਕਸਦ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਪਸ਼ੂ ਪ੍ਰਵਿਰਤੀ ਦੂਰ ਕਰਕੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਬਣਾਉਣਾ ਹੈ। ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਿਚਾਰਾਂ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਗਟਾਵਾ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਦੇ ਵਾਈਸ-ਚਾਂਸਲਰ ਡਾ. ਜਸਪਾਲ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੇ ਸ਼੍ਰੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਗ੍ਰੰਥ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਜੀ ਦੇ 300 ਸਾਲਾ ਗੁਰਤਾ ਗੱਦੀ ਦਿਵਸ ਨੂੰ ਮਨਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਮਾਤਾ ਗੁਜਰੀ ਕਾਲਜ, ਫਤਿਹਗੜ੍ਹ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਵਿਖੇ 'ਸ਼ਬਦ ਗੁਰੂ' ਵਿਸ਼ੇ ਤੇ ਕਰਵਾਏ ਗਏ ਸੈਮੀਨਾਰ ਮੌਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਧਾਨਗੀ ਭਾਸ਼ਣ ਦਿੰਦਿਆਂ ਕੀਤਾ।

ਡਾ. ਜਸਪਾਲ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਜੇਕਰ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੈਵੀ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਗ੍ਰਹਿਣ ਕਰੇਗਾ ਤਾਂ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਕਲ ਭਾਵੇਂ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਵਾਲੀ ਹੋਵੇ ਪਰ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਵਿਰਤੀ ਪਸ਼ੂਆਂ ਵਾਲੀ ਹੀ ਰਹੇਗੀ। ਸ਼ਬਦ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਕਤੀ ਦਾ ਜਿਕਰ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਡਾ. ਜਸਪਾਲ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਸਮੇਂ ਸਮੇਂ ਤੇ ਮਿਲਦੀ ਰੋਸ਼ਨੀ ਅਤੇ ਲਗਦੇ ਝਟਕਿਆਂ ਤੋਂ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਕਤੀ ਦਾ ਅਹਿਸਾਸਸ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।

ਇਸ ਤੋਂ ਇਲਾਵਾ ਸੈਮੀਨਾਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਪੜ੍ਹੇ ਗਏ ਪਰਦਿਆਂ ਦਾ ਜਿਕਰ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਡਾ. ਜਸਪਾਲ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਨੇ ਸੰਵਾਦ ਰਚਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਕੱਟੜਤਾ ਦੀਆਂ ਸਭ ਦੀਵਾਰਾਂ ਤੋੜੀਆਂ ਸਨ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਪਰ ਅੱਜ ਜਾਪਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਅਸੀਂ ਆਪਣੀ ਵਿਰਾਸਤ ਤੋਂ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਨਵੀਆਂ ਦੀਵਾਰਾਂ ਖੜੀਆਂ ਕਰਨ ਲੱਗੇ ਹਾਂ, ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਵਿਰਾਸਤ ਨੂੰ ਬਚਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਅਜਿਹਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਨਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ।

ਇਸ ਤੋਂ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਸੈਮੀਨਾਰ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਆਪਣਾ ਪੇਪਰ ਪੇਸ਼ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਡਾ. ਜਸਬੀਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਸਾਬਰ ਨੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮਹੱਤਤਾ ਦੱਸਦਿਆਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਗੁਰੂ ਇੱਕ ਸਰਬ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਅਤੇ ਘਟ ਘਟ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਥਿੱਤ ਸੂਖਮ ਸ਼ਕਤੀ ਹੈ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਭਾਵੇਂ ਅੱਜ ਅਸੀਂ ਸੂਚਨਾ ਤਕਨਾਲੋਜੀ ਦੇ ਯੁੱਗ ਵਿੱਚ ਨਿੱਜੀ ਸਵਾਰਥਾਂ ਲਈ ਵੱਧ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਧ ਗਿਆਨ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਹੋੜ ਵਿੱਚ ਲੱਗੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਾਂ, ਪਰ ਅਸਲ ਵਿੱਚ ਅਸੀਂ ਇਸ ਹੋੜ ਵਿੱਚ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਗੁਰੂ ਤੋਂ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਸਮਾਜਿਕ ਕਦਰਾਂ ਕੀਮਤਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਵੀ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਰਹੇ ਹਾਂ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਜੇਕਰ ਅਸੀਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਾਰੇ ਰੰਗ ਮਾਨਣੇ ਹਨ ਤਾਂ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਅਪਣਾ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਨੂੰ ਸੰਤੁਲਿਤ ਕਰਨਾ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ।

ਇਸ ਮੌਕੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਪੇਪਰ ਪੇਸ਼ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਡਾ. ਸਰਬਜਿੰਦਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਧਾਰਮਿਕ ਸੰਵਾਦ ਤੇ
ਜੋਰ ਦਿੰਦਿਆਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਦੁਨੀਆਂ ਭਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਬਹੁਤੇ ਧਰਮਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਸੰਵਾਦ ਦੀ ਸੰਭਾਵਨਾ ਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ, ਜਦਕਿ ਸ਼੍ਰੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਗ੍ਰੰਥ ਸਾਹਬਿ ਦੀ ਰਚਨਾ ਹੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਨੇ ਸੰਵਾਦ ਦੀ ਗੱਲ ਕਰਕੇ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਨਾਲ ਸਭ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਬੰਧਨ ਖਤਮ ਕੀਤੇ ਗਏ ਹਨ।

ਡਾ. ਹਰਭਜਨ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਪੇਸ਼ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਦੀ ਰਚਨਾ ਹੀ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਨਾਲ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਇਸ ਦਾ ਅੰਤ ਵੀ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ। ਭਗਤੀ ਲਹਿਰ ਦੀ ਗੱਲ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਪੂਰੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਲਹਿਰ ਦਾ ਸਾਰ-ਅੰਸ਼ ਸ਼੍ਰੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਗ੍ਰੰਥ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਵਿੱਚ ਦਰਜ ਹੈ।

The Vice-Chancellor of Punjabi University, Patiala, Dr Jaspal Singh emphasized upon the need of public-private partnership to enhance the scope of scientific research, its applications and uses for the welfare of the humanity. He made these remarks while presiding over the national seminar on "Recent Trends in Chemistry", held in the Science Auditorium of the University here today.

Dr Jaspal Singh said that treating science as something different from religion was a misnomer. They are complimentary to each other even as the only difference between them is that science reaches to a logical conclusion by analysis, dissection and deduction, while religion carries this function by synthesis and assimilation. Science, mixed with spirituality, can do utmost good not only to the humans but to the environment also which can become a place more useful for living a holistic life. While talking about the advantages and disadvantages of science, particularly that of chemistry, that deals with chemicals, Dr Jaspal Singh said that these have played both havoc while helping in saving more and more lives by producing live saving drugs at the same. He urged the scientists to keep important formulas off the hands of anti-social elements who use them for mass destruction. He congratulated the Department for cornering recognition from UGC and DST in getting funds under the SAP and FIST programmes.

Dr A.S. Brar, Vice-Chancellor of Lucknow University in his talk on "Recent Trends in Spectroscopy" concluded that NMR spectroscopy was the only sufficient technique for elucidating the simple and complex molecules. Prof N.R. Dhamiwal, HoD, highlighted the achievements of his Department. Dr Jaspreet focused upon inculcating concept of intellectual property right in research and development to harvest fruits of innovation to its full potential. Over 70 scholars from different parts of the country deliberated upon such themes as chemo-informatics, nano-science, drug designing and environment science. Prof M.S. Saini, Dean, Academic Affairs, proposed a vote of thanks.

"Private FM channels, assuming to sustain themselves on the strength of their 'jockeys' and abstract content can never eclipse the potential and prowess of public broadcasting system of All India radio in India. They can neither match the range, reach and diversity of their programmes with commercial tendencies dominating their standpoints." This was stated by Mr B.C. Panwar, Station Director of All India Radio, Jalandhar, while presiding over a Refresher Course, organised for the casual announcers by the Patiala Station of AIR in collaboration with the
Journalism and Mass Communication Department of Punjabi University here today. While gracefully accepting the challenge from the private counterparts of FM Radio Stations, Mr Panwar regretted the occasional crossing of boundaries of mannerism by their presenters.

While inaugurating the Course, Dr Gurmeet Singh Maan, HoD of Journalism and Mass Communication, said that "finding ourselves at cultural crossroads, the private FM stations were making futile attempts to erode our cultural ethos with their gibberish". While referring to Netaji Subhas Chander Bose's statement, in which he had described All India Radio, during the pre-independence era as "Anti Indian Radio, Dr Maan said that the present private FM radios stations were not doing a better job. Their existence, he said, was like that of a "lollypop or chewing gum" which has the potential of charming the audience for a while ultimately losing its taste and flavour. Majority of the RJ listeners, including that segment for which their programmes were specifically designed, have already started feeling disillusioned with their content and presentation as sometimes touch the crests and troughs of vulgarity, Dr Maan added.

Mr Aamarjit Singh Waraich, Station Head of AIR, Patiala, said that the private channels can never match the credibility and integrity of public broadcasting systems as the former care a fig for the social responsibility role of media in India. It is because of this fact that the AIR audience was increasing with each passing day even as the private channels were now compulsively resorting to "corporate social responsibility" patterns to retrieve their base. Mr Waraich agreed with the statement of Dr Harjinder Walia, Reader in the Journalism Department, that All India Radio has always played a significant role in crises situations.

Later, the students of Journalism and Mass Communication were exposed to a one-hour live interactive roadshow programme, conducted by Mr Waraich, in which University's Provost, Dr Balwinder Tiwana, Patiala traffic incharge, Mr Gurcharan Singh and NSS coordinator, Dr Paramvir Singh gave answers to the queries and clarified the doubts of the University students on various issues. AIR presenters, Mr Birinder Singh and Ms Sukhjit Kaur also participated in the programme.

ਵਿਭਾਗ ਦੇ ਮੁਖੀ ਡਾ. ਏ.ਕੇ. ਤਿਵਾੜੀ ਨੇ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਕਿ ਇਹ ਗ੍ਰਾਂਟ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਵਿੱਚ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਹੋਰ ਵਧੀਆ ਸਹੂਲਤਾਂ ਪ੍ਰਦਾਨ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਵਰਤੀ ਜਾਵੇਗੀ।

Sixteen students of Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, Punjabi University, led by the Head of the Department, Dr Gurmeet Singh Maan, attended a five-day intensive workshop on" Basics of Videography" at the Film and Television Institute (FTII), Pune. They were accompanied by Dr Happy Jeji, Lecturer, Dr Bhupinder Singh and Er Charanjit Singh Chopra, Technical Assistants.

The students were engaged into making documentaries and short films, 15-second fiction and non-fiction shows, besides anchoring shows on different themes in and outside the FTII campus. They were given hands-on training on handling single-camera and multi-camera indoor and outdoor production techniques. Besides this, they were also given useful tips by experts from the film industry and the prestigious institute itself about "Camera as a creative tool for documentations, Electronic news gathering, Use of camera movements for various shot compositions, Visual documentation and action with DVCAM, Handheld camera operations and taking shots, using a moving car, Editing news stories."

Daily sessions regarding screening of rushes and analyses of classic films were also held for describing in detail the nuances of film making. The students described the whole exercise as an eye-opener and quite a rewarding experience.

Moving from scarcity to abundance, we are desperately trying to hold on to our culture which is getting lost in this globality. This necessitates the need for media and society to engage in the commitment to the indigenous. This was stated by Prof. Biswajit Das Director, Centre for Culture, Media and Governance, Jamia Milia Islamia, New Delhi at a Valedictory session of a two day national conference on 'Media and Society'. He talked about the politics and economics of media and how the notion of public has somehow become a missing link in policy making. He highlighted that the notion of authenticity is under question today in the creative industry.

Earlier in the inaugural session of the conference, Punjabi University Vice-Chancellor Dr. Jaspal Singh said that Media should be a medium which should emphasize on creating a dialogue rather the confrontation. Dr. Jaspal Singh further said that Media should try to make man more human devoid of selfishness and ignorance. He said that this can go a long way towards creating a better society and a better world.

In the six technical sessions that were held in the two days, there was a large exchange of information through the papers presented by the delegates from all over the nation. Dr Rajesh Gill from Panjab University Chandigarh, presented a paper on 'The Media Game: Individual Found Individual Lost'. She emphasised on the very interesting role of media in establishing a connection between the individual who is desperately scared of being alone, and his social context. she said that the problem arises when this connection results in the total surrender of man to relations that are superficial and hinders the formation of the social capital and also leads to dwarfing of the individual who is lost in mediated images.

Dr. Rajesh Sharma in his lecture on 'Living With the Implications of the New Media' stressed on the role of new media in the generation of cyber communities making living communities irrelevant. Dr.Birinder Pal Singh, Head, Department of Sociology, Punjabi University Patiala, in his paper
'Media and Society in Punjab' questioned the responsible journalism that contributes significantly in the creation of false perceptions and acculturation of people to the so called modern ethos. Dr. Sherry Sabbarwal from Panjab University Chandigarh in 'Feminism in Cyberspace: Empowerment or Utopia?' questioned the notion of gender reconstruction through manipulation of virtual world. She highlighted that a man free zone can't help problems being solved.

Prof. Jasbir Singh from University of Jammu in 'The Impact of Globalization on Women Identity in Media' pointed out that under the impact of globalization, marketing is done by the mass seductive advertising which is blatantly superficial, is nonetheless successful in creating false desires in the people of traditional societies. Dr.Chinna Rao highlighted the trivialization of the issues of dalits by the media.Mr.Saurabh Anand from Gandhinagar,raised the issue of 'Trust and Privacy in the Cyber World'.

ਮੀਡੀਆ ਨੂੰ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਬਣਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਮਾਧਿਅਮ ਦੇ ਤੌਰ ਤੇ ਕੰਮ ਕਰਨਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਜੋ ਅਸੀਂ ਬਿਹਤਰ ਸਮਾਜ ਦੀ ਸਿਰਜਣਾ ਕਰ ਸਕੀਏ। ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਿਚਾਰਾਂ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਗਟਾਵਾ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਦੇ ਵਾਈਸ-ਚਾਂਸਲਰ ਡਾ. ਜਸਪਾਲ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੇ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਦੇ ਸੈਨੇਟ ਹਾਲ ਵਿਖੇ 'ਮੀਡੀਆ ਅਤੇ ਸਮਾਜ' ਵਿਸ਼ੇ ਤੇ ਕਰਵਾਈ ਜਾ ਰਹੀ ਕਾਨਫਰੰਸ ਦੇ ਉਦਘਾਟਨੀ ਸਮਾਗਮ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਧਾਨਗੀ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਕੀਤਾ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਮੀਡੀਆ ਨੂੰ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਖੁਦਗਰਜੀ ਵਰਗੀਆਂ ਭਾਵਨਾਵਾਂ ਖਤਮ ਕਰਕੇ ਬਿਹਤਰ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਬਣਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਉਪਰਾਲੇ ਕਰਨੇ ਚਾਹੀਦੇ ਹਨ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਭਾਵੇਂ ਕਿ ਅੱਜ ਮੀਡੀਆ ਦੇ ਨਿੱਜੀ ਜਾਂ ਵਪਾਰਕ ਮੁਫਾਦ ਹੋਣ ਪਰ ਫਿਰ ਵੀ ਮੀਡੀਆ ਦੀ ਭੂਮਿਕਾ ਕਾਫੀ ਸ਼ਕਤੀਸ਼ਾਲੀ ਅਤੇ ਸਕਾਰਾਤਮਕ ਹੈ।

ਜਵਾਹਰਲਾਲ ਨਹਿਰੂ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ, ਦਿੱਲੀ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰੋਫੈਸਰ ਡਾ. ਆਨੰਦ ਕੁਮਾਰ ਨੇ ਕੁੰਜੀਵਤ ਭਾਸ਼ਣ ਦਿੰਦਿਆਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਮੀਡੀਆ ਇੰਨਾ ਸ਼ਕਤੀਸ਼ਾਲੀ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਕਿਸੇ ਵੀ ਸ਼ਖਸੀਅਤ ਨੂੰ ਬਣਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਕਿਸੇ ਦੀ ਵੀ ਸ਼ਖਸੀਅਤ ਨੂੰ ਖਰਾਬ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਮੀਡੀਆ ਰਾਸ਼ਟਰ ਨਿਰਮਾਣ ਵਿੱਚ ਅਹਿਮ ਭੂਮਿਕਾ ਨਿਭਾਉਂਦਾ ਸੀ, ਪਰ ਹੁਣ ਪੂਰੀ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਪਾਰਕ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ। ਅੱਜ ਦੇ ਦੌਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਇਸ਼ਤਿਹਾਰ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਵਪਾਰਕ ਘਰਾਣੇ ਮੀਡੀਆ ਦੀਆਂ ਨੀਤੀਆਂ ਤਹਿ ਕਰਨ ਲੱਗੇ ਹਨ। ਪਰ ਇਸ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਮੀਡੀਆ ਦੀ ਸਕਾਰਾਤਮਕ ਭੂਮਿਕਾ ਦੀ ਗੱਲ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਮੀਡੀਆ ਨੇ ਤਿੰਨ ਖਾਸ ਲਹਿਰਾਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਬਲਬੂਤੇ ਚਲਾਈਆਂ ਹਨ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਬਾਰੇ ਹੁਣ ਸਭ ਨੂੰ ਗੱਲ ਕਰਨੀ ਪੈ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਲਹਿਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਗੱਲ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਔਰਤਾਂ, ਵਾਤਾਵਰਣ ਅਤੇ ਘੱਟ ਗਿਣਤੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਹੱਕ ਵਿੱਚ ਮੀਡੀਆ ਨੇ ਹੀ ਸਿਰਫ ਆਵਾਜ਼ ਉਠਾਈ ਹੈ।

ਪੰਜਾਬ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ, ਚੰਡੀਗੜ੍ਹ ਤੋਂ ਆਏ ਪ੍ਰੋ. ਭੁਪਿੰਦਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਬਰਾੜ ਨੇ ਇਸ ਮੌਕੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਮੀਡੀਆ ਬਹੁਤ ਹੀ ਸ਼ਕਤੀਸ਼ਾਲੀ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਤੋਂ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਦੇ ਸੋਸ਼ਾਲੋਜੀ ਅਤੇ ਐਂਥਰੋਪੋਲੋਜੀ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਦੇ ਮੁੱਖੀ ਡਾ. ਬਰਿੰਦਰਪਾਲ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੇ ਆਏ ਮਹਿਮਾਨਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਵਿਦਵਾਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਸੁਆਗਤ ਕੀਤਾ। ਕਾਨਫਰੰਸ ਦੇ ਕੋਆਰਡੀਨੇਟਰ ਡਾ. ਦੀਪਕ ਕੁਮਾਰ ਨੇ 'ਮੀਡੀਆ ਅਤੇ ਸਮਾਜ' ਵਿਸ਼ੇ ਤੇ ਕਰਵਾਈ ਜਾ ਰਹੀ ਇਸ ਕਾਨਫਰੰਸ ਦੀ ਰੂਪ ਰੇਖਾ ਤੇ ਚਾਨਣਾ ਪਾਇਆ।

ਮੀਡੀਆ ਨੂੰ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਬਣਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਮਾਧਿਅਮ ਦੇ ਤੌਰ ਤੇ ਕੰਮ ਕਰਨਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਜੋ ਅਸੀਂ ਬਿਹਤਰ ਸਮਾਜ ਦੀ ਸਿਰਜਣਾ ਕਰ ਸਕੀਏ। ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਿਚਾਰਾਂ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਗਟਾਵਾ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਦੇ ਵਾਈਸ-ਚਾਂਸਲਰ ਡਾ. ਜਸਪਾਲ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੇ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਦੇ ਸੈਨੇਟ ਹਾਲ ਵਿਖੇ 'ਮੀਡੀਆ ਅਤੇ ਸਮਾਜ' ਵਿਸ਼ੇ ਤੇ ਕਰਵਾਈ ਜਾ ਰਹੀ ਕਾਨਫਰੰਸ ਦੇ ਉਦਘਾਟਨੀ ਸਮਾਗਮ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਧਾਨਗੀ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਕੀਤਾ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਮੀਡੀਆ ਨੂੰ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਖੁਦਗਰਜੀ ਵਰਗੀਆਂ ਭਾਵਨਾਵਾਂ ਖਤਮ ਕਰਕੇ ਬਿਹਤਰ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਬਣਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਉਪਰਾਲੇ ਕਰਨੇ ਚਾਹੀਦੇ ਹਨ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਭਾਵੇਂ ਕਿ ਅੱਜ ਮੀਡੀਆ ਦੇ ਨਿੱਜੀ ਜਾਂ ਵਪਾਰਕ ਮੁਫਾਦ ਹੋਣ ਪਰ ਫਿਰ ਵੀ ਮੀਡੀਆ ਦੀ ਭੂਮਿਕਾ ਕਾਫੀ ਸ਼ਕਤੀਸ਼ਾਲੀ ਅਤੇ ਸਕਾਰਾਤਮਕ ਹੈ।

ਜਵਾਹਰਲਾਲ ਨਹਿਰੂ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ, ਦਿੱਲੀ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰੋਫੈਸਰ ਡਾ. ਆਨੰਦ ਕੁਮਾਰ ਨੇ ਕੁੰਜੀਵਤ ਭਾਸ਼ਣ ਦਿੰਦਿਆਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਮੀਡੀਆ ਇੰਨਾ ਸ਼ਕਤੀਸ਼ਾਲੀ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਕਿਸੇ ਵੀ ਸ਼ਖਸੀਅਤ ਨੂੰ ਬਣਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਕਿਸੇ ਦੀ ਵੀ ਸ਼ਖਸੀਅਤ ਨੂੰ ਖਰਾਬ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਮੀਡੀਆ ਰਾਸ਼ਟਰ ਨਿਰਮਾਣ ਵਿੱਚ ਅਹਿਮ ਭੂਮਿਕਾ ਨਿਭਾਉਂਦਾ ਸੀ, ਪਰ ਹੁਣ ਪੂਰੀ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਪਾਰਕ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ। ਅੱਜ ਦੇ ਦੌਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਇਸ਼ਤਿਹਾਰ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਵਪਾਰਕ ਘਰਾਣੇ ਮੀਡੀਆ ਦੀਆਂ ਨੀਤੀਆਂ ਤਹਿ ਕਰਨ ਲੱਗੇ ਹਨ। ਪਰ ਇਸ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਮੀਡੀਆ ਦੀ ਸਕਾਰਾਤਮਕ ਭੂਮਿਕਾ ਦੀ ਗੱਲ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਮੀਡੀਆ ਨੇ ਤਿੰਨ ਖਾਸ ਲਹਿਰਾਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਬਲਬੂਤੇ ਚਲਾਈਆਂ ਹਨ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਬਾਰੇ ਹੁਣ ਸਭ ਨੂੰ ਗੱਲ ਕਰਨੀ ਪੈ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਲਹਿਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਗੱਲ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਔਰਤਾਂ, ਵਾਤਾਵਰਣ ਅਤੇ ਘੱਟ ਗਿਣਤੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਹੱਕ ਵਿੱਚ ਮੀਡੀਆ ਨੇ ਹੀ ਸਿਰਫ ਆਵਾਜ਼ ਉਠਾਈ ਹੈ।

Dr. Jaspal Singh further said that Media should try to make man more human devoid of selfishness and ignorance. He said that this can go a long way towards creating a better society and a better world.

Prof. Anand Kumar, an eminent Sociologist from Jawahar Lal Nehru University, Delhi in his key note address emphasized on developing an analytical understanding of the interface between media and modern society.

Stressing on the reach of Media in today's world he talked about the media autonomy that results in projection of misplaced arrogance and media power that plays a significant role in providing a new frame for defining the societal relations in making and breaking images and in fragmenting or strengthening communities.

He provided a broader framework within which the changing faces of media from a user friendly medium to a signifier, making headlines and finally a
monster media displacing our centrality from producers to consumers could be
visualised.

Talking about the positive role of media he said that the three movements who does not have sport from anywhere media have given strength to them. He said that women improvement, minorities and environment awareness are three main movements which media is running.

Prof. Bhupinder Singh Brar from Punjab University described Media as a forceful instrumental agency and stressed on the need for a deeper insight into the role of media as an agent of Individuation and atomization of society.

Earlier, Head of the Department of Sociology and Social Anthropology, Punjabi University, Dr. Birinderpal Singh welcomed all the guests and academicians. Conference Coordinator Dr. Deepak Kumar briefed about the theme of the two-day conference.

Patiala, January 14- Dr. Rajesh Kumar Goel, Reader, Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Drug Research, Punjabi University has been awarded a major research project on "Phytopharmacological studies of anticonvulsant profile of Ficus religiosa" by the University Grants Commission. A grant of Rs 5.92 lakh has been sanctioned for the project. The project is aimed to find the anticonvulsant principle useful for the safer treatment of epilepsy by reverse pharmacology approach.

ਪਟਿਆਲਾ, 14 ਜਨਵਰੀ- ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਦੇ ਫਾਰਮਾਸੂਟੀਕਲ ਸਾਇੰਸ ਅਤੇ ਡਰੱਗ ਰਿਸਰਚ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਦੇ ਰੀਡਰ ਡਾ. ਰਾਜੇਸ਼ ਕੁਮਾਰ ਗੋਇਲ ਨੂੰ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਗਰਾਂਟਸ ਕਮਿਸ਼ਨ ਵਲੋਂ ਇੱਕ ਅਹਿਮ ਖੋਜ ਪ੍ਰੋਜੈਕਟ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਪ੍ਰੋਜੈਕਟ ਲਈ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਗਰਾਂਟਸ ਕਮਿਸ਼ਨ ਨੇ 5 ਲੱਖ 92 ਹਜਾਰ ਰੁਪਏ ਦੀ ਗ੍ਰਾਂਟ ਜਾਰੀ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਪ੍ਰੋਜੈਕਟ ਦਾ ਉਦੇਸ਼ ਮਿਰਗੀ ਦੇ ਇਲਾਜ ਵਿੱਚ ਲਾਹੇਵੰਦ ਐਂਟੀਕਨਵਰਸੈਂਟ ਸਿਧਾਂਤ ਦੀ ਖੋਜ ਕਰਨਾ ਹੈ।

Patiala, January 13- To mark the tercentenary celebrations of Gurta Gadi Diwas, Punjabi University, Patiala decided to give one time special chance to the Annual System Students who due to any reason could not appear in or clear their examinations. Now university has decided to give this chance to all semester system and one year course students who could not appear or clear their examinations of any course. Giving this Information University Controller Examinations Dr. Gurmail Singh said that interested students can contact University Examination Department till 23rd January.

ਪਟਿਆਲਾ, 13 ਜਨਵਰੀ- 300 ਸਾਲਾ ਗੁਰਤਾ ਗੱਦੀ ਦੇ ਸਬੰਧ ਵਿੱਚ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਵਲੋਂ ਸਾਲਾਨਾ ਸਿਸਟਮ ਦੇ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਗਏ ਵਿਸ਼ੇਸ਼ ਮੌਕੇ ਦਾ ਲਾਭ ਹੁਣ ਸਮੈਸਟਰ ਸਿਸਟਮ ਅਤੇ ਇੱਕ ਸਾਲਾ ਕੋਰਸ ਦੇ ਫੇਲ੍ਹ, ਰੀ-ਅਪੀਅਰ ਅਤੇ ਇੰਪਰੂਵਮੈਂਟ ਦੇ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਵੀ ਨਿਰਧਾਰਤ ਸ਼ਰਤਾਂ ਦੀ ਪੂਰਤੀ ਤੇ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਜਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ। ਇਹ ਜਾਣਕਾਰੀ ਦਿੰਦਿਆਂ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਦੇ ਕੋ-ਆਰਡੀਨੇਟਰ(ਪ੍ਰੀਖਿਆਵਾਂਂ) ਡਾ. ਗੁਰਮੇਲ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੇ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਕਿ ਮੌਕੇ ਦਾ ਲਾਭ ਲੈਣ ਦੇ ਇੱਛੁਕ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀ 23 ਜਨਵਰੀ ਤੱਕ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਖਿਆ ਸ਼ਾਖਾ ਨਾਲ ਸੰਪਰਕ ਕਰਕੇ ਇਸ ਮੌਕੇ ਦਾ ਲਾਭ ਉਠਾ ਸਕਦੇ ਹਨ।

ਪਟਿਆਲਾ, 13 ਜਨਵਰੀ- ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਵਿਖੇ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਹੋਈ 62ਵੀਂ ਰਾਸ਼ਟਰੀ ਟਰੈਕ ਸਾਈਕਲਿੰਗ ਚੈਂਪੀਅਨਸ਼ਿਪ ਦਾ ਉਦਘਾਟਨ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਦੇ ਲੋਕ ਨਿਰਮਾਣ ਮੰਤਰੀ ਸ਼੍ਰੀ ਪਰਮਿੰਦਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਢੀਂਡਸਾ ਨੇ ਕੀਤਾ। ਇਸ ਮੌਕੇ ਸ਼੍ਰੀ ਢੀਂਡਸਾ ਨੇ ਇਹ ਪ੍ਰਤੀਯੋਗਤਾ ਕਰਵਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਇੱਕ ਲੱਖ ਰੁਪਏ ਦੀ ਗ੍ਰਾਂਟ ਦੇਣ ਦਾ ਵੀ ਐਲਾਨ ਕੀਤਾ। ਆਪਣੇ ਉਦਘਾਟਨੀ ਸੰਬੋਧਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਕੈਬਨਿਟ ਮੰਤਰੀ ਸ਼੍ਰੀ ਪਰਮਿੰਦਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਢੀਂਡਸਾ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਸਾਈਕਲਿੰਗ ਇੱਕ ਖੇਡ ਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਬਲਕਿ ਜਿੰਦਗੀ ਜੀਣ ਦਾ ਹਿੱਸਾ ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਮੁੜ ਤੋਂ ਦੁਨੀਆਂ ਭਰ ਦੇ ਕਈ ਮੁਲਕਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦਾ ਹਿੱਸਾ ਬਣ ਚੁੱਕਿਆ ਹੈ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਭਾਰਤੀ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਾਈਕਲਿੰਗ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਜਿੰਦਗੀ ਦਾ ਹਿੱਸਾ ਬਣਾਉਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ।

ਇਸ ਮੌਕੇ ਬੋਲਦਿਆਂ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਦੇ ਵਾਈਸ-ਚਾਂਸਲਰ ਡਾ. ਜਸਪਾਲ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਵਲੋਂ ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾ ਖੇਡਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਫੁੱਲਤ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਪਹਿਲਕਦਮੀ ਕੀਤੀ ਜਾਵੇਗੀ ਤੇ ਖਿਡਾਰੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਅੰਤਰ-ਰਾਸ਼ਟਰੀ ਪੱਧਰ ਦੀਆਂ ਸਹੂਲਤਾਂ ਪ੍ਰਦਾਨ ਕਰਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਕੋਈ ਘਾਟ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਹਿਣ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਜਾਵੇਗੀ।

ਇਸ ਤੋਂ ਇਲਾਵਾ ਮੌਲਾਨਾ ਅਬੁਲ ਕਲਾਮ ਟਰਾਫੀ ਦਾ ਜ਼ਿਕਰ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਡਾ. ਜਸਪਾਲ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਖੇਡਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਦੇਸ਼ ਦੀ ਇਸ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਡੀ ਟਰਾਫੀ ਨ੍ਵੰ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਕੋਲ ਬਰਕਰਾਰ ਰੱਖਣ ਲਈ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਵਲੋਂ ਕੋਈ ਕਸਰ ਬਾਕੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਛੱਡੀ ਜਾਵੇਗੀ ਤੇ ਖਿਡਾਰੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਪੂਰੀਆਂ ਸਹੂਲਤਾਂ ਮੁਹੱਈਆਂ ਕਰਵਾਈਆਂ ਜਾ ਰਹੀਆਂ ਹਨ।

ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਵਿਖੇ ਕਰਵਾਈ ਜਾ ਰਹੀ ਇਸ ਸਾਈਕਲਿੰਗ ਪ੍ਰਤੀਯੋਗਤਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਦੇਸ਼ ਭਰ ਦੀਆਂ 21 ਟੀਮਾਂ ਭਾਗ ਲੈ ਰਹੀਆਂ ਹਨ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਕਈ ਅੰਤਰ-ਰਾਸ਼ਟਰੀ ਖਿਡਾਰੀ ਵੀ ਸ਼ਾਮਲ ਹਨ ਜੋ ਵੱਖ-ਵੱਖ ਮੁਕਾਬਲਿਆਂ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਭਾਰਤ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਤੀਨਿਧਤਾ ਕਰ ਚੁੱਕੇ ਹਨ।

ਇਸ ਮੌਕੇ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਦੇ ਡੀਨ, ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀ ਭਲਾਈ ਡਾ. ਕੁਲਬੀਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਢਿਲੋਂ, ਡਾਇਰੈਕਟਰ ਸਪੋਰਟਸ ਸ਼੍ਰੀ ਰਾਜ ਕੁਮਾਰ ਅਤੇ ਸਾਈਕਲਿੰਗ ਫੈਡਰੇਸ਼ਨ ਆਫ ਇੰਡੀਆ ਦੇ ਸਮੂਹ ਅਹੁਦੇਦਾਰ ਵੀ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਸਨ।

ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਵਲੋਂ ਅਗਲੇ ਸੈਸ਼ਨ ਤੋਂ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਕਿੱਤਾਮੁਖੀ ਕੋਰਸ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾਵੇਗਾ ਅਤੇ ਦੂਜੀ ਸਰਬ ਭਾਰਤੀ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਕਾਨਫਰੰਸ 30 ਅਪ੍ਰੈਲ ਤੋਂ 1 ਮਈ ਤੱਕ ਕਰਵਾਈ ਜਾਵੇਗੀ। ਇਸ ਦਾ ਐਲਾਨ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਦੇ ਵਾਈਸ-ਚਾਂਸਲਰ ਡਾ. ਜਸਪਾਲ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੇ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਦੇ ਸੈਨੇਟ ਹਾਲ ਵਿਖੇ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਵਲੋਂ ਕਰਵਾਏ ਜਾ ਰਹੇ ਦੋ ਰੋਜ਼ਾ ਸੈਮੀਨਾਰ ਦੇ ਉਦਘਾਟਨੀ ਸਮਾਗਮ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਧਾਨਗੀ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਕੀਤਾ।

ਡਾ.ਜਸਪਾਲ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਨੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਜਕਾਲ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਭਾਸ਼ਾ ਅਤੇ ਸੱਭਿਆਚਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਸੰਭਾਲਣ ਲਈ ਕਾਫੀ ਯਤਨ ਆਰੰਭੇ ਹਨ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਤਹਿਤ ਹੀ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਵਲੋਂ ਪਹਿਲੇ ਪੜਾਅ ਵਿੱਚ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਲੋਕ ਨਾਚਾਂ ਗਿੱਧਾ, ਭੰਗੜਾ ਅਤੇ ਝੂੰਮਰ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਤਾਬੀ ਰੂਪ ਅਤੇ ਆਡੀਓ ਵਿਜ਼ੁਉਲ ਰੂਪ ਵਿੱਚ ਤਿਆਰ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਅਗਲੇ ਪੜਾਅ ਵਿੱਚ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਗੀਤ ਸੰਗੀਤ ਨੂੰ ਇੱਕ ਪ੍ਰੋਜੈਕਟ ਦੇ ਤੌਰ ਤੇ ਇਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਤਿਆਰ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾਵੇਗਾ।

ਇਸ ਤੋਂ ਇਲਾਵਾ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਕਿ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਕੋਲ ਮੌਜੂਦ 850 ਦੇ ਕਰੀਬ ਦੁਰਲੱਭ ਹੱਥ ਲਿਖਤਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਡਿਜੀਟਲ ਕਰਨ ਦਾ ਕੰਮ ਚੱਲ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਇੱਕ ਸਾਲ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਅੰਦਰ ਪੂਰਾ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ ਜਾਵੇਗਾ।

ਇਸ ਤੋਂ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਭਾਸ਼ਾ, ਸਾਹਿਤ, ਸੱਭਿਆਚਾਰ ਅਤੇ ਮੀਡੀਆ ਵਿਸ਼ੇ ਤੇ ਕਰਵਾਏ ਜਾ ਰਹੇ ਇਸ ਸੈਮੀਨਾਰ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਉਦਘਾਟਨੀ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਬੋਲਦਿਆਂ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਟ੍ਰਿਬਿਊਨ ਦੇ ਸੰਪਾਦਕ ਸ਼੍ਰੀ ਜੀ.ਐਸ. ਸਿੱਧੂ ਦਮਦਮੀ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਸਿਰਜਣ ਦਾ ਕੰਮ ਜੋ ਲੇਖਕਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਇਤਿਹਾਸਕਾਰਾਂ ਨੇ ਕਰਨਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਮੀਡੀਆ ਨੇ ਹਾਈਜੈਕ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਮਲਟੀਮੀਡੀਆ ਜੋ ਪਰੋਸ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ਲੋਕ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਹਿਜ ਸੁਭਾਅ ਕਬੂਲ ਕਰ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ।

ਇਸ ਤੋਂ ਇਲਾਵਾ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਅੱਜ ਦੇ ਦੋਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਵੱਡੇ ਉਦਯੋਗਿਕ ਘਰਾਣੇ ਮੀਡੀਆ ਵਿੱਚ ਦਾਖਲ ਹੋ ਗਏ ਹਨ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਮਨੋਰਥ ਪੈਸਾ ਕਮਾਉਣ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਨਾਲ ਮੀਡੀਆ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਸਿਆਸੀ ਸ਼ੋਹਰਤ ਖੱਟਣਾ ਹੈ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾ ਜੋਰ ਦੇ ਕੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਇਸ ਲਈ ਜਰੂਰੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਰਾਸ਼ਟਰੀ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਰਣ ਨੂੰ ਖੁਦਮੁਖਤਿਆਰੀ ਦੇ ਕੇ ਮਜਬੂਤ ਬਣਾਇਆ ਜਾਵੇ ਤਾਂ ਜੋ ਇਹ ਨਿੱਜੀ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਰਣ ਦਾ ਮੁਕਾਬਲਾ ਕਰ ਸਕੇ।

ਇਸ ਮੌਕੇ ਕੁੰਜੀਵਤ ਭਾਸ਼ਣ ਦਿੰਦਿਆਂ ਪ੍ਰਸਿੱਧ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਆਲੋਚਕ ਡਾ. ਅਮਰਜੀਤ ਗਰੇਵਾਲ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਜੇਕਰ ਅਸੀਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਸੱਭਿਆਚਾਰ ਅਤੇ ਭਾਸ਼ਾ ਨੂੰ ਬਚਾਉਣਾ ਹੈ ਤਾ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਆਧੁਨਿਕ ਤਕਨੀਕਾ ਅਪਣਾ ਕੇ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਸੱਭਿਆਚਾਰ ਦੀ ਅਸਲ ਤਸਵੀਰ ਵੱਖੋ-ਵੱਖਰੇ ਸਾਧਨਾਂ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਅੱਗੇ ਪੇਸ਼ ਕਰਨੀ ਚਾਹੀਦੀ ਹੈ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਨਹੀਂ ਤਾਂ ਅਸੀਂ ਸਿਰਫ ਉਹੀ ਗ੍ਰਹਿਣ ਕਰਾਂਗੇ ਜੋ ਸਾਡੇ ਅੱਗੇ ਪਰੋਸਿਆ ਜਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ।

ਡਾ. ਬਲਦੇਵ ਸਿੰਘ ਚੀਮਾ, ਮੁਖੀ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਨੇ ਸਵਾਗਤੀ ਸ਼ਬਦਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਵਿਚ ਕੰਪਿਊਟਰ ਲੈਬ ਦੀ ਸਥਾਪਨਾ ਕਰਕੇ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਕੰਪਿਊਟਰ ਦੀ ਮੁਫ਼ਤ ਸਿਖਲਾਈ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ। ਉਨਾ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਅਜੋਕੇ ਦੌਰ ਵਿਚ ਪੱਤਰਕਾਰੀ ਪੀਲੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਜਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਫ਼ਿਲਮਕਾਰੀ ਨੀਲੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਜਾ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਸੈਮੀਨਾਰ ਦਾ ਜਿਕਰ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਕਿ ਇਹ ਇਕ ਅੰਤਰ-ਅਨੁਸ਼ਾਸਨੀ ਸੈਮੀਨਾਰ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਵਿਚ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਭਾਸ਼ਾ ਸਾਹਿਤ ਅਤੇ ਸਭਿਆਚਾਰ ਦੇ ਮੀਡੀਏ ਨਾਲ ਅੰਤਰ-ਸੰਵਾਦ ਦੀਆਂ ਵਿਭਿੰਨ ਸੀਮਾਵਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਸਮਰੱਥਾਵਾਂ ਤੇ ਸੰਜੀਦਾ ਸੰਵਾਦ ਰਚਾਇਆ ਜਾਵੇਗਾ।

ਇਸ ਸ਼ੈਸਨ ਦਾ ਸੰਚਾਲਨ ਕੋਆਰਡੀਨੇਟਰ ਸੈਮੀਨਾਰ ਡਾ. ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੇ ਕੀਤਾ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਸੈਮੀਨਾਰ ਦੀ ਰੂਪਰੇਖਾ ਪੇਸ਼ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਅਜੌਕੇ ਦੌਰ ਵਿਚ ਇਸ ਵਿਸ਼ੇ ਦੀ ਸਾਰਥਿਕਤਾ ਬਾਰੇ ਮਹੱਤਵ-ਪੂਰਨ ਟਿੱਪਣੀਆਂ ਕੀਤੀਆਂ। ਮੀਡੀਆਂ, ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਭਾਸ਼ਾ, ਸਾਹਿਤ ਅਤੇ ਵਿਸ਼ੇਸ਼ ਤੌਰ ਤੇ ਸਭਿਆਚਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਬੇਹੱਦ ਤੇਜੀ ਨਾਲ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵਿਤ ਕਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਬਦਲਾਅ ਦੇ ਚੰਗੇ ਮੰਦੇ ਪਾਸਾਰਾਂ ਪ੍ਰਤੀ ਹੁਣ ਤੱਕ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਚਿੰਤਨ ਦਾ ਰਵੱਈਆ ਮੂਕ ਦਰਸ਼ਕ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੀ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮੀਡੀਏ ਪ੍ਰਤੀ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਚਿੰਤਨ ਨੂੰ ਸੰਜੀਦਾ ਪਹੁੰਚ ਅਪਣਾਉਣ ਦੀ ਲੋੜ ਤੇ ਜ਼ੋਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ।

ਇਸ ਸ਼ੈਸਨ ਦੇ ਅਖੀਰ ਵਿਚ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ, ਪਟਿਆਲਾ ਦੇ ਰਜਿਸਟਰਾਰ ਡਾ. ਸੁਖਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਸਿੰਘ ਖਹਿਰਾ ਨੇ ਬਾਹਰੋਂ ਆਏ ਸਾਰੇ ਲੇਖਕਾਂ, ਵਿਦਵਾਨਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਦਾ ਧੰਨਵਾਦ ਕੀਤਾ।

Patiala, 8 January: Punjabi Department of Punjabi University organised a two days seminar here today. Dr. Jaspal Singh Vice Chancellor of the university presided over the seminar. Punjabi Tribune Editor Mr. Sidhu Damdami gave inaugural address and Punjabi writer and critic Sh. Amarjit Singh presented keynote address in this seminar.

Speaking on this occasion Dr. Jaspal Singh said that Punjabi university is committed to promote the Punjabi language and culture. He said that university will introduce vocational courses in Punjabi language from the next academic session. The university will organize second all India Punjabi conference on 30th may of this year. He further said that the works to digitalize 850 rare manuscripts are already started by the university. This project will be completed in a year.

In his inaugural address Punjabi Tribune Editor Mr. G S Sidhu Damdami said that the creative work done by the writers and the historian is high jacked by the multimedia. The peoples are accepting the material which is supplied to them by the multimedia. He further said that the industrialist are coming in the media, whose aim is to earn the money and getting political mileage from the media.

In his key note address prominent Punjabi critic Mr. Amarjit Grewal said
that if we want to save our Punjabi language and culture it is necessary to understand media ecology. There is a dire need to make Punjabi media ecology to promote our real culture and language.
