Patiala, June 28
A meeting of the Punjabi
University Syndicate, held under the chairmanship of the
Vice-Chancellor, Dr Jaspal Singh here today, gave its
consent to award life fellowship to a former
Vice-Chancellor of Punjabi University and a noted
economist, Dr H.K. Manmohan Singh. While Dr Sutinder
Singh Noor was appointed Professor of Eminence in the
Department of Punjabi Language Development, Dr Mohinder
Kaur Gill was given life fellowship for her significant
contribution to promote the concept and philosophy of
Guru Granth Sahib. Dr Rattan Singh was given senior
fellowship. The meeting also approved around 25 per cent
increase in the fellowship amounts.

ਫੈਸਲਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਨਜ਼ੂਰੀ ਦਿਤੀ ਗਈ ਹੈ। ਮੀਟਿੰਗ ਵਿੱਚ ਫੈਲੋਸ਼ਿਪ ਰਾਸ਼ੀ
ਵਿੱਚ 25 ਫੀਸਦੀ ਰਾਸ਼ੀ ਵਧਾਉਣ ਦਾ ਫੈਸਲਾ ਵੀ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ।

Patiala, June 26- Punjabi University, Patiala has
declared the results of B.Sc. (Bio-Tech. Part-II),
Gayani, M.B.E. Semester-IV, M.A. English Part-I, M.A.
Fine Arts Semester-II, M.A. Defence Studies Part-II,
M.A. Sanskrit Part-I & II, M.A. Women Studies Part-II,
M.A. Social Work Semester-IV, L.L.B. Semester-VI, B.P.Ed.
Part-III and B.C.A. Part-III. According to the
Coordinator, Examinations Dr. Gurmel Singh the results
will be available on the University website
www.punjabiuniversity.ac.in from tomorrow. Pbi varsity to host workshop on Lib Sc Patiala, June 24- Punjabi University’s Department of Library and Information Science has been chosen by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) to host a Regional Workshop on “Information Literacy for South and Central Asia”. According to Dr Jagtar Singh, Coordinator of the workshop, UNESCO has sanctioned Rs 2.5 lakhs for training delegates from 14 countries of South and Central Asia during this workshop. Dr Trishanjit Kaur, HoD, said that the main objective of the UNESCO to hold such types of workshop was to “provide international linkage to the students of library and information science” around the globe. Punjabi University has been selected as one of the 12 institutes worldwide to organize such workshops, she added. Punjabi softwares selected for demonstration in United Kingdom
Patiala, June 23- Three Punjabi software systems,
developed by Punjabi University have been selected for
demonstration in the prestigious 22nd International
Conference on Computational Linguistics to be held at
Manchester, UK from August 18 to 22 next. The software,
developed by a research team led by Dr Gurpreet Singh
Lehal, Professor and Head of Computer Science Department
of the University, are in the highly challenging
research area of Computational Linguistics. The other
members of the team include Mr Tejinder Singh Saini,
Systems Analyst at the Advanced Centre for Technical
Development of Punjabi, Mr Gurpreet Singh Joshan,
Lecturer, Yadavindra College of Engineering and Mr
Mandeep Singh, a PhD research scholar from Canada.

Pbi varsity VC honoured Press Release, June 19- Dr Jaspal Singh, Vice-Chancellor of Punjabi University, Patiala was honoured by Mrs Gursharan Kaur, wife of Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh at a function, organised by Bhai Vir Singh Sadan at New Delhi for his “unique contribution to promote Punjabi in its entirety”.
50 lakhs set aside for research Scholar Patiala, June 13- The Vice-Chancellor of Punjabi University, Dr Jaspal Singh announced setting aside of Rs 50 lakhs for strengthening the infrastructure and extending enhanced facilities to the Research Scholars of the University. He made this commitment while addressing the first-of-its-kind gathering of Punjabi University Research Fellows and Research Scholars, pursuing research in various departments and disciplines of the University.The Vice-Chancellor also promised to remove all types of uncalled for bottlenecks and difficulties that the scholars face in the process of carrying out their research projects. He urged the Dean, Research of the University, Dr M.S. Saini to hold Department-wise meetings to address to the genuine grievances of the scholars with the objective of providing them befitting environment. While responding to the comments made by certain research scholars present on the occasion, he said that they will be extended all types of judicious help and that their genuine grievances will be redressed in a most efficient manner. Dr Jaspal Singh encouraged the scholars to deal with research projects which were qualitative and utilitarian in nature and help empower the academic environment of the University. Dr M.S. Saini, Dean, Research said that the students will be encouraged to avail certain floating grants extended by certain funding agencies. He made a genuine promise to the scholars for removing all types of administrative, technical and personal problems including accommodation, late entry in girls’ hostels, better library facilities and financial help. He also made the scholars aware of certain unassigned grants that they could avail for pursuing their research projects. The Registrar, Dr S.S. Khehra said that the University has received a grant of Rs 30 lakhs to help the research scholars on various fronts. He advocated the inclusion of research scholars on various committees for speedy redressal of their grievances. He said that he would ensure that they get their due share from the laboratory fees charged from them and getting them grace period for overstay based on genuine reasons. Pbi varsity signed MoU with ISLL Patiala, June 7- Punjabi University, Patiala has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Ind-Swift Laboratories Limited (ISLL), Mohali, to carry out collaborative research on “Design, Synthesis & Computational Validation of Medicinally Significant New Chemical Entities”. The Principal Investigator of the project, Dr Raman K. Verma, Professor of Synthetic Organic and Medicinal Chemistry at Punjabi University, highlighted various scientific
and practical aspects of the research project in
his presentation while Dr C.V. Srinivasan, Vice-President
of the ISLL gave a brief description of the most
sophisticated R&D facilities available for carrying out
the project.

Law admissions
Patiala, June 4- Admission to all the law
departments in various Universities and their affiliated
colleges in Punjab this year will be made only through
entrance test and counselling, being conducted by the
Punjabi University, Patiala. No College or University
Department in the state will be allowed to admit
students to any of the law courses without taking the
entrance examination to be held on June 22 next. A
Punjab government notification to this effect has been

ਐਨ.ਐਸ.ਐਸ. ਗਤੀਵਿਧੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਵਿਕਾਸ ਬਾਰੇ ਚਾਨਣਾ ਪਾਇਆ। ਇਸ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ
ਹੀ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਵਿਚ ਐਨ.ਐਸ.ਐਸ. ਪ੍ਰਤੀ ਕਾਫੀ ਰੁਚੀ ਵਧ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਮੌਕੇ ਪਹੁੰਚੀ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਦੇ ਕਾਨੂੰਨ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰੋਫੈਸਰ ਪੁਸ਼ਪਿੰਦਰ ਕੌਰ ਨੇ ਸਮਾਜ ਵਿਚ ਵੱਧ ਰਹੀਆਂ ਹਿੰਸਕ ਘਟਨਾਵਾਂ ਤੇ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਪ੍ਰਗਟ ਕੀਤੀ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਐਨ.ਐਸ.ਐਸ.ਵਲੰਟੀਅਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਸਮਾਜ ਦੇ ਅਜਿਹੇ ਪੀੜਤ ਵਿਅਕਤੀਆਂ ਦੀ ਮਦਦ ਕਰਨ। |
