Born on 15.11.1943 at Mandi Baha-ud-din District Gujrat (Now Pakistan), Kuldip Singh Dhir graduated in Mechanical Engineering from Thapar Institute of Engineering & Technology, Patiala (Deemed University) in 1966. After serving as Research Investigator I.I.A.M.R. Delhi, Assistant Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering U.P. Agriculture University, Pant Nagar (Nainital) and Technical Officer Department of Industries, Govt of Rajasthan, he finally decided to devote himself to the cause of language and literature. A genuine scholar of Punjabi, Hindi, English, Urdu and Sanskrit, he had his master’s Degree in Punjabi and pursued research to earn a Doctorate. For the last 34 years, he has been working with the Punjabi University, Patiala, as a teacher and Researcher. He was Professor & Head Postgraduate Department of Punjabi and Co-ordinator Department of Special Assistance Scheme of U.G.C. at Punjabi University Patiala from 1991-94. He was Dean Faculty of Languages of the University from May 1999 to May 2001. He has the rare honour of serving as Dean Academic Affairs of the University for more than two years from August 1999 to September 2002. He has written and lectured intensively on various aspects of Punjabi Language, Literature & Culture. He has been listed in Who’s Who of Indian Writers, Sahitya Academy of India, Marquis Who’s Who in the World (U.S.A.), Dictionary of International Biography (England) & International Directory of Distinguished Leadership(U.S.A.). He was awarded a prize by National Productivity Council in 1967 and honoured with Prize for his books in Punjabi seven times during the years 1969 to 1976. In 1998, Guru Gobind Singh Study Circle honored him with Bhai Santokh Singh Puraskar. Sain Main Meer Trust honoured him in 2000. He has also the honour of being the recipient of Shiromani Punjabi Lekhak Award of Punjab for the year 1999 which carries a cash award of Rs one lac. He is a member of the Senate of the Thapar Institute of Engineering & Technology besides being on various bodies of several universities of the country besides Punjabi University, Patiala. Dr. Dhir is currently working as a senior Professor in the post-graduate Department of Punjabi at Punjabi University ,Patiala where he teaches Theory of Literature and Comparative Literature.
