About Us
The Planning and Monitoring Board was approved to be established by the University Syndicate in Feb., 1978 and subsequently, the office of Director, Planning and Monitoring (DPM) was established in Nov., 1984. This office functions as under
At present, Dr. Jaswinder Singh Brar, Professor, CDEIS is the Director, Planning and Monitoring. The DPM office is responsible for performing administrative work related to planning and monitoring including approval for opening / closing of degree/diploma/certificate programs in different departments at the university campus / neighbourhood campuses / constituent colleges; facilitate the signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between Punjabi University and various National / International Organisations / Companies / Industries for benefit of the students and faculty; conduct of Planning and Monitoring Board meetings. Besides, this office provides administrative assistance to get approvals for consultancy work from competent university authorities and forwarding of individual / departmental research proposals to various funding agencies. This office also ensures work coordination among three cells associated with the DPM.
Mandate of Planning and Monitoring Board
The Planning and Monitoring board has been mandated by the Punjabi University Calendar (Vol III, Chap XIV) to carry out the following
- To examine the questions and suggest measures for raising the standard of education and research, to strengthen the interdisciplinary programmes and inter-departmental cooperation, to create links and develop specific schemes of inter University and University/industry/agriculture /community interaction, to develop ideas and schemes on improving corporate life and cultural activities on the campus.
- To prepare University development plans both short and long term, keeping in view the objectives of the University as laid down in the Act, and with due regards to national policy.
- To monitor regularly implementation of schemes approved by UGC and other funding agencies and suggest methods for proper implementation.
- The Academic Council / Syndicate may ask the Board’s advice on any issue.

Statistical Cell
The Statistical Cell is responsible to collect/maintain/monitor following types of data
- Academic session wise student enrolment in different courses being offered by different departments/neighbourhood campuses/constituent colleges of the Punjabi University
- Data concerning the SC-BC cell.
- Academic achievements of different departments/ faculty Members including Publications/Patents & Copyrights/Awards & Honours/Sanctioned / completed Research Projects awarded by various National / International funding agencies.
- This cell provides assistance for submission of research proposals / consultancy projects (individual / departmental) to various funding agencies with due endorsement from the Registrar, Punjabi University.
IPR Cell
The IPR Cell was established in the Punjabi University as per UGC guidelines with the objective to create awareness about Intellectual Property rights. Its routine activities are managed by the Dy Coordinator, Dr. Balwinder Singh Sooch (Prof., department of Biotechnology). This cell provides assistance on all issues related to Property Rights / Copy rights / Patents / Technology Transfer.
SC-BC Cell
The SC-BC cell was established in the Punjabi University to fulfil the following objectives
- To implement the reservation policy for SC/ST in the University and Colleges.
- To collect data regarding the implementation of the policies in respect of admissions, appointments to teaching and non-teaching positions in University, in the affiliating colleges and analysis of the data showing the trends and changes towards fulfilling the required quota
- To take such follow up measures for achieving the objectives and targets laid down for the purpose by the Govt. of India and the UGC.
- To implement, monitor continuously and evaluate the reservation policy in University and colleges and plan measures for ensuring effective implementation of the policy and programs of the Govt of India.
